To be so annoyed about something that happened so bloody long ago?

Today I found out that many moons ago, When I was 18/19 and before I was dating DH, who would’ve been mid 20s at the time. He and 2 of his friends (who all worked behind the same very cool & hip bar) had placed bets on who could sleep with me first.
The 2 losers had to pay 50 quid each - and the winner got £100.

This is our best man.
My nieces godfather
And my bloody husband

AIBU TO BE FUMING RIGHT NOW?!
I feel like a piece of meat.

Also iabu- I know it. I will let it drop. I love DH more than anything and the other 2 guys are his best mates and a firm part of our family.
I just needed to get it off my chest.
Young men’s brains really are in their trousers aren’t they?

In the last hour it’s definitely gone from something that I was pissed off about to something I find humorous.
They’re all great.
I married one, the second was DH’s best man and the third is our nieces godfather, I’m also GM to ones DS and DH is GF to the others DS.
We see them regularly and theyre not just DHs friends, they’ve become part of our extended family
I hardly shrouded myself in glory during my former years. See tits in Wetherspoons comment above. Blush

But I still think I’ll convince them I’m owed the value of the bet plus inflation Wink

I'd be flattered!

Yeah, demand the bag. Lots of people do stupid things in their late teens, and your H has, by the sound of it, been a good partner in the years since then. But getting the bag as a way of getting the £100 that he 'won' still seems pretty fair to me (unless that would really fuck the family budget, of course.)

Iloveautumnleaves · 09/12/2018 23:19

🤣

I think how you came to hear about it is really quite sweet and the fact they all fancied you, your DH won you over, but it didn’t come between them. It’s lovely you’re all good friends.

The world was a different place 20 years ago and I’m GLAD I was that age then, nit now. Life was much more fun.

...don’t tell them it’s both funny and sweet until your new handbag arrives 😁

I'm finding some of the ott responses hilarious... Glad you can see the humour in it all op and be sensible about it, most of us know how immature young (and old) men can be Grin

HollowTalk · 09/12/2018 23:29

Did your husband actually collect the money?

Bamchicabaawaa · 09/12/2018 23:31

I knew I was BU to be so irked when I did my OP. But I needed a moan. Everyone else I could’ve spoken too was too close to the situation.
I’ve definitely processed it and it is sweet and speedy and utterly hilarious

Hollow. He used it for his MOT and part insurance on his 1995 Volkswagen polo.

I don’t think young men’s brains are in their trousers, no. Certainly not the ones I have known or raised. Sorry you have such a low opinion of yourself. And sorry your husband was a massive twat.

Bamchicabaawaa · 10/12/2018 07:15

@WereYouHareWhenIWasFox
I’m not sure I have a low opinion of myself? I’m not sure where I said or inferred that? 🤷‍♀️

I met my husband at work. Apparently there was a similar bet between some of my colleagues (though not for money). My now-husband wasn't even a part of it and no one could believe he 'won'.

meow1989 · 10/12/2018 13:20

Totally missing point of thread but I love that bag - maybe I need one!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/12/2018 13:43

Re the bag, now you appear to have made with the other stuff.... I bought DD a satchel from Cambridge for her 21st which is next week. Had her initials put on, did it in a hurry as I was so excited to get it in the sale. My brain packed up and left home to go on hols, and I forgot she had changed her name, and had her old initials put on..... Doh! Cue an actual overnight trip to Cambridge to see what we could salvage. The staff in the shop were fabulous, and managed to insert an extra initial s that you would only know if you knew iuswim. Fortunately, I have a cousin nearby who I was able to visit and catch up, but still. The bag is fabulous though, and you deserve one! Xmas Smile
