To think womens sport is screwed?

This year we have already had the WOMENS world champion track cyclist Rachel McKinnon here

Now we have Hannah Mouncey playing in the world WOMENS championship handball here

Sportswomen must feel so silenced and powerless Sad

The powers that be have decided these males who identify as women can fairly compete in womens sport and to protest at against males will result in action against you with the risk you will be banned from your sport...

If you see this as a fair and level playing field on a biological level ( by that I dont mean saying TWAW and expecting me to accept that as an answer) then can you explain why?

I am very sad tbh that we are losing something we fought so hard for.

I don’t know if it helps women to stop competing but they could refuse to share the podium with the cheat.
Unfortunately, they can't do that.
Any behaviour that is considered unsporting or unbecoming and you get thrown off the team (unless you are a male cheat of course).
Female competitors have to keep quiet and take this or not compete.
The need other people to stand up and complain about this.
Transwomen have no place in women's sport - EVER!

incallthebloodytime · 09/12/2018 22:58

I think it's the sponsors that need to be got onside... rather than the women put in positions that are career suicide

But how? Currently it's the big thing to be "trans friendly" so brave and stunning!

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 09/12/2018 23:02

All these photographs...one of these things is not like the other...

Happily for me my sport is equestrianism, which is a level playing field, one of the few were male and female compete equally. Now, why do we think that is? Could it be because pure strength/size/speed does not necessarily give you an advantage due to the horse being involved? What a coincidence

MotherOfATeenApprenticeActuary · 09/12/2018 23:11

What totally sold it for me today (although the cyclist had already opened my eyes) was in a rugby match where an older girl who was allowed to 'play down' an age group was tackled and hurt by a much smaller but pubescent boy and had to leave the game early hurt and in tears. Physically she was much larger and I worried about that for my son but she didn't stand a chance against the boys strength and musculature even when she was bigger in stature.

My 15 year old was WAY stronger than me even though he was tiny and scrawny looking. People who have matured into male bodies can, and do, hurt us. It's ridiculous to pretend otherwise.

PencilsInSpace · 09/12/2018 23:26

The Woman's Hour discussion on sport is well worth a listen (warning - the item before on child neglect is distressing)

There's a full transcript here and the whole thread is worth a read.

Basically Beth Jones reckons it'll all be fine because if women are made to compete against men we might up our game a bit.

Beth Jones has benefited from one of the new publicly funded PhD opportunities at Loughborough Woke College of PE. The link I have is dead now but there was a thread about it on FWR and there is a LOT of public money being funelled into this BS.

Loughborough Woke PE College are also involved in the huge publicly funded law project based at King's College London, to see if they can cut to the chase and just stop recording sex altogether.

What could possibly go wrong? Hmm

Aeroflotgirl · 10/12/2018 08:28

I am shocked that a suposidly intelligent person believes that women need to 'up their game', it is nothing about that, but the physical differences between male and female bodies, that is why we have male and female sport.

knittedjest · 10/12/2018 08:41

figure skating

Men have a huge advantage over women in figure skating. Shape of their pelvis and shoulders makes them much more aerodynamic. For example to qualify for international senior competitions a man has to have minimum score of 193 compared to a woman's minimum score of 133. In mens figure skating complex jumps like triple axles and quads jumps are common place and expected where in women's the only ones doing those jumps are prepubescent junior girls who don't have any hips or breasts yet.

Womantheonlykind · 10/12/2018 23:55

I did not know that about figure skating and add that to my big long Hey NO FAIR wtf! list.

Rugby, known by medics as one of the most dangerous sports - neck/spine/head damage all a regular feature.

This is Scottish Rugby's transgender policy.

www.scottishrugby.org/sites/default/files/editor/images/sr18_transgender_policy.pdf

2.10.2
The following are not required for a Transgender player to compete in the category of competition consistent with
their Gender Identity:
(a) legal recognition of the player’s Gender Identity as their sex; or
(b) surgical anatomical changes.

There is a very nice contact page the end of that document if anyone wishes to express an opinion on the fact that as long as testosterone levels are low any male bodied bloke can recklessly be invited to endanger the lives of sporting women on the rugby pitch in the name of magical thinking.

Datun · 11/12/2018 00:15

Rachel McKinnon particularly bugs me. The woman who was cheated spoke up and was then got at.

Before McKinnon cheated women out of their medals, they were (are) a died in the wool transactivist. You Tubing at children to abandon 'unsupportive' parents and join their adult 'glitter family'. On Mother's Day.

I want you to know that’s it’s ok to walk away from unsupportive or disrespectful or even abusive parents. And I want to give you hope that you can find what we call your glitter family. Your queer family. We are out there.

4thwavenow.com/2017/05/14/mtof-tells-trans-kids-to-dump-moms-on-mothers-day-and-join-the-glitter-queer-family-of-adult-trans-activists/

All kinds of wrong.

araiwa · 11/12/2018 00:16

I wish the entire all blacks team suddenly identified as women for the next womens world cup and steam rollers every team by 300 points on their way to winning to illustrate the absurdity of it all

knittedjest · 11/12/2018 00:29

No, they couldn't. I'm not sure in every sport but my daughter competes at international junior level in an Olympic sport and will hopefully move to senior level in the next year or so and in her sport the gold medalist of every major competition wins between $25k and $260K, but everybody to usually 6th place also wins at least a few thousand. But in order to get that money they are obligated to attend and participate in good will at all events put on by the sporting Federation that they are invited to for that competition. If they want to get paid they need to not only do the podium but they will also probably need to do press conference together and attend a closing banquet on the last night of competition.

Lovingbenidorm · 11/12/2018 00:41

The world has gone beyond mad here.
I couldn’t give a flying fart if you feel you are Arthur or Martha BUT if you are competing in a physical sport, going to the loo or trying something on in TopShop.............
STOP TAKING THE FUCKING PISS

IWouldPreferNotTo · 11/12/2018 00:42

@MotherOfATeenApprenticeActuary

Well yes. I really to think everyone is downplaying the difference sex makes.

I'm no bodybuilder, I work in IT and I've got a lightweight mouse. I'm certainly not pumped from moving that bad boy about.

But by any reasonable measure of strength I can beat my female friends (even those who lift weights) without any significant effort. Because it's not a fair competition. Sure, put me against the top few % of women martial artists and they'll beat me black and blue. But that's comparing elite athletes to a someone who thinks chicken is a vegetable.

HestiaParthenos · 11/12/2018 01:35

I thought it is more about how stuff looks, so strength shouldn't play a role ... am stunned that apparently it is still possible to discriminate against women in that. Confused

Thanks for clearing that up. Apparently there's less sports that aren't affected by this shit than I thought there were!

(Perhaps we should demand that males have their pelvis bones broken and turned into an imitation of a female pelvis before they can compete in women's sports? That would make some other sports much fairer, too ...
Just dreaming here, in a system that doesn't even require removing the penis before a male can be imprisoned in a women's prison, they'll never accept that.)

kittencatmeow · 11/12/2018 02:05

One challenge is that many women have hips that prevent them from contracting their bodies tightly enough to reach the necessary spin rate. But it may also just be a matter of time: Canadian Kurt Browning landed the first officially ratified quadruple jump in 1988. It took 14 years for a woman, Japanese skater Miki Ando, to do the same

Taken off the net from an article on the science behind Olympic figure skating... 14 years later a woman did it.

It's near on impossible... people don't believe quint jumps (the next possibility after quads) will ever be humanly possible. Scientists don't think we can ever do that... figure skating is at the very peak of what can be done with it by any human in jumps.

With figure skating... women look more graceful and it's an art as well as a technical sport, so it's considered feminine- sparkly costumes etc

But 14 years between a man and a woman doing the same thing! It's unlikely to ever be an equal sport unless women stop having breasts and hips!

Men often do quads now in competition, it's a regular thing apparently ... only 2 women have landed them in competition if Wikipedia is correct to date. (Women can do them... but don't seem to land them in competition)

Lovingbenidorm · 11/12/2018 02:11

Oh dear deary me.
This is the same old shite trooped out again and again, it’s boring.
Men are not women.
Cough
I say!
Cough
MEN ARE NOT WOMEN

kittencatmeow · 11/12/2018 02:28

Men are not women. Even when they think they are...

But the whole world is being gaslit into applauding them while they pretend they are the same as us. Despite sport clearly showing that they are not while somehow fashion and feels trumps biology. We need the world to wake up that it's not just about genitalia, plumbing or lady brains ... but physically... we cannot fairly compete with the male body

We can push to the absolute limits of what female bodies are capable of ... and still not get close for 14 fucking years

That's not 14 years of simply trying harder. It's 14 years of scientists telling us how it can be done and a slim Japanese woman who's 5ft 4... with science, mental determination, training hard, and having an advantage over curvier women of other nationalities...

knittedjest · 11/12/2018 12:07

There are a couple of junior girls jumping quads (and take that with a grain of salt, they rarely land them and when they do they aren't often completely rotated) but I will post a video of one of them from a competition last weekend so you can see how incredibly little they are. If they are struggling to land and rotate them with their lack of hips and chest grown women have next to no chance. On the other hand a man needs multiple to even be in consideration for the podium.

kittencatmeow · 11/12/2018 14:28

Yep! I was a figure skater as a child... never got anywhere near a quad and quit shortly before I could have possibly got to the British open

Was never going to work... I'm tall and very curvy and had nowhere near the flexibility of girls who had done gymnastics from young etc

I could have perhaps done better in Ice dance than figure skating but it's an expensive and time consuming hobby whatever you choose and not really worth it unless you are very talented

It's much easier for men to get somewhere in it imo but less men want to take it up and are usually siblings or children of skaters who quit or coach... other than the Russians... they breathe figure skating!

kittencatmeow · 11/12/2018 14:34

Boys rather than men

I doubt any adult man is going to start and get far...

People retire in their 20's frequently

knittedjest · 11/12/2018 14:49

kittencatmeow

That's actually another difference between females and male skaters that give men an advantage. 'Women' skaters peak at around 17 years, male skaters don't peak until 21. For example the current female Olympic champion was 15, the male Olympic champion was 23. The current junior world champion was 13 years old, the male junior champion was a few weeks away from turning 19.

That's also a big issue in gymnastics. If you watch ladies gym you will notice they are all home schooled high school students. Male gymnastics is almost like watching a college sports event because they are all 19-20 on scholarships at colleges who bring their college teams out to support them and are decked out head to toe in college apparel.

So a lot of these young girls are having to sacrifice their education (the girl in the above video only goes to school on Monday and skates 8 hours a day, 5 days a week) while the men don't really have to be really committed until their education is done and out of the way.

kittencatmeow · 11/12/2018 15:23

Absolutely! Even as a nothing who would not ever get far... I skated at one point at 5am every morning, god knows why now but I enjoyed it at the time I guess

The only ones who ever got far at my rink lived in it I came to conclude

kittencatmeow · 11/12/2018 15:29

If anyone wants a future Olympic skater - remortgage, home educate and start before they walk! Plus the gymnastics, trampolining and ballet...

It's absolutely crazy how much time and money is invested before you see a pay off

Of course there are a few who are naturally very gifted at it and have an easier ride but it isn't for the faint hearted and parents are sometimes imo bordering on obsession. Parents were always fighting!

All that said... I don't regret it. And would totally push DS if I won the lottery as he was skating as he could walk...

PencilsInSpace · 11/12/2018 21:32

I've only just got round to reading the article in the OP.

Mouncey says it's dangerous to have weight limits in Australian Rules Football because it will encourage eating disorders in girls.

My biggest concern is the fact that weight is being used as one of the key physical measures for possible exclusion. Forget the fact that in a game that has such an emphasis on endurance and speed, being heavy is not necessarily an advantage and think about the message it sends to women and girls about their bodies: if you’re too big, you can’t play. That is incredibly dangerous and backward.

It is an especially dangerous message for girls and teenagers (trans or not) who may not understand the difference between fat or muscle: they will simply get the message that being bigger is bad. If you don’t fit a certain stereotype, or possess a certain body shape, that’s bad. This is a message constantly reinforced through all types of media and the last place it needs to be coming from is sporting organisations: the very people who are currently engaged in a conscious push to increase physical activity for women and girls, which continues to lag at unhealthy rates.

Hannah Mouncey is almost 6'3" and almost 16 stone. And has gone through male puberty.

To think womens sport is screwed?
MILHouse · 11/12/2018 22:09

A niggling fear I have about this particular lunacy is that it gives ammunition to those who push puberty blocking for the very young.
