In not liking DP evening attire

violeticecream · 09/12/2018 14:03

DP is 45. Wears quite trendy clothes. I think he looks great.
However. He has taken to slipping into something more comfortable in the evenings! Oh my goodness! He has got himself some tracksuit bottoms from primark. They are BAD! A plum colour, all baggy round the knees and bum. He came into the room last night wearing an old crumpled sweatshirt and the bottoms. My DD 12 was laughing and saying Dad you look like a hobo (light hearted, he was laughing aswell)
He has agreed for me to get him some 'loungewear' for Christmas. Budget is low! Any ideas? What do your DH DP wear for relaxing?!

We put our jim jam bottoms on pretty much as soon as we get in 😊😊

They don’t look like pj bottoms (no teddies or sleepy cats etc, but they are ‘nightwear’). I don’t like to slob on the sofa in work trousers (plus get two days wear out of them) and my jeans are uncomfortable (too tight).

kitkatsky · 09/12/2018 16:57

Ouch. Erm if I ignore the obvious prejudice in this post I'd suggest Next pyjamas, but erm.... it's lovely for your DD that she lives in a comfy home with parents who find the idea of looking like a "tramp/hobo" funny, but does she need a slight reality check? I grew up in a comfy middle class home and wouldn't have spoken like this and somehow still found myself in a heat/ eat situation in mid 20s as a single mum. Humility and consideration to others costs nothing and might do you well one day when you find you could soon be the homeless one

VictoryOrValhalla · 09/12/2018 16:57

You do come across as a bit of a snob OP. Insisting on a dress code for chilling at home is quite snobby.

Hair like a birds nest = fine. Look like a hobo= not fine.

GoblinsAndGhouls · 09/12/2018 17:00

OP think yourself lucky.

I sometimes put my (clean) pyjamas on if I have a friend coming round in the evening midweek to watch a film!

IamSusan · 09/12/2018 17:01

Oh Susan. What a pleasant person you are.
Less judgemental than some others, so quite pleasant to be around actually.Smile

🤣

TatianaLarina · 09/12/2018 17:03

Onesie OP?

GunpowderGelatine · 09/12/2018 17:03

Wow some massive over reactions here to the DD's comments. OP you must immediately march her off to the soup kitchens so she can learn the error of her ways 🙄

My DH does loungewear but 'naive' loungewear - he's tried M&S, Debenhams, Superdru - but swears by Matalan stuff!

violeticecream · 09/12/2018 17:05

There isn't a dress code ffs. They were baggy and looked comical. He was laughing about how they looked. I put on my pjs when I get home from work. It was meant to be a lighthearted post.
Funny how we all see things so differently

I’m sure you are Susan.

HarrySnotter · 09/12/2018 17:09

It was just silly teasing.

Oh my god OP, you mustn't do that. NO ONE does that on mumsnet. No one gets anything wrong either, or has a little joke with a loved one while still being a thoroughly decent human being. Didn't you realise that?

And obviously adults calling a 12-year-old child mean, rude, not very nice etc is absolutely fine and normal behaviour. You need to sort your DD asap or she will most likely grow up to be a murderer. Or a politician.

TheWiseWomansFear · 09/12/2018 17:10

It's cold... I'm currently wearing mismatched pj bottoms and top with a jumpsuit over the top.

If you want him to look nicer then get him some nice nightwear/loungewear from Uniqlo or ASOS.
Keep in mind that all tracksuit bottoms look baggy though... that's the point.

GunpowderGelatine · 09/12/2018 17:16

God this place used to be fun, now people bring politics into a lighthearted thread about tracksuit bottoms. I can only imagine the miserable households some of you must live in!

HarrySnotter · 09/12/2018 17:23

God this place used to be fun it DID didn't it @GunpowderGelatine. It's getting less fun by the day these days, unfortunately.

Maelstrop · 09/12/2018 17:25

Blimey, unless I'm wearing something to which dog hair sticks, I stay in my work clothes, smart trousers, etc, can't be bothered to change.

I got in from work 20 mins ago. I have removed my bra and am currently sporting a cookie monster onesie.

If you are after some elegant loungewear watch some episodes of Only Fools. Delboys range of loungewear is truely inspirational.

PumpkinKitty82 · 09/12/2018 17:29

If he’s comfortable and not leaving the house what’s the problem?
Sounds ridiculous and a bit mean of you if I’m honest

Iloveautumnleaves · 09/12/2018 17:32

I would simply mention that no man was ever offered ‘an early night’ whilst wearing plum coloured baggy joggers. They’re all kinds of horrible... I’m sure he’ll see sense and use them for rags instead!

Think about what you’d like him to wear...and buy that! Works for me and ultimately him too 😉

Oh and your DD sounds perfectly fine.

Coming on here is like visiting an alternative universe some days.

GunpowderGelatine · 09/12/2018 17:33

Yep @HarrySnotter the professionally offended just can't help themselves. They'd hate being in my house we take the piss out of each other constantly.

Then again every conversation is an opportunity to lecture GrinGrin

HarrySnotter · 09/12/2018 17:41

Then again every conversation is an opportunity to lecture

Aint that the truth! Grin

Also, I find it makes me feel really good about myself if I actually manage to make someone else really shit. Kind of gives me a warm glow you know. Oh no hang on, that would be weird ... Wink

SalmonLeBon · 09/12/2018 17:45

Well, I am the evil bitch wife who 'accidentally' put her DH's beloved baggy joggers in the charity bag when clearing out for a house move. They were revolting ugly things and did nothing to enhance his physical attractiveness to me. He seems to have been able to relax in jeans for the last decade or so since I disposed of them.

And if you have to take your bra off the moment you get in the door, go and get fitted for one that actually fits properly.

GunpowderGelatine · 09/12/2018 17:54

Wow @SalmonLeBon what an ABUSIVE wife you are, don't you know you should be proud to have a man who looks like a scruff, it's empowering him and you're stifling that with your shallow shallow expectations Wink I've done the same as you

Totally agree about the bra I don't get throwing them off when you get in!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 09/12/2018 17:58

He's your partner, you're meant to love him. He's in his own home so let him wear whatever he goddamn likes and get over yourself, you snooty cow.

gamerchick · 09/12/2018 17:59

And if you have to take your bra off the moment you get in the door, go and get fitted for one that actually fits properly

Heh I was waiting for that, took your fooking time man Grin

Nowt to do about how comfortable they are, it's personal preference. Some people like to sleep in underwear, some find it uncomfortable. Neither are wrong.

I find it far weirder that someone would throw a comfortable pair of housepants away preferring their husband to relax in jeans to increase his attractiveness. If a dude expressed his wishes on his lady like that and chucked her clothes it would be a different thread Hmm
