In not liking DP evening attire

DP is 45. Wears quite trendy clothes. I think he looks great.
However. He has taken to slipping into something more comfortable in the evenings! Oh my goodness! He has got himself some tracksuit bottoms from primark. They are BAD! A plum colour, all baggy round the knees and bum. He came into the room last night wearing an old crumpled sweatshirt and the bottoms. My DD 12 was laughing and saying Dad you look like a hobo (light hearted, he was laughing aswell)
He has agreed for me to get him some 'loungewear' for Christmas. Budget is low! Any ideas? What do your DH DP wear for relaxing?!

What a lot of boring killjoys this thread has attracted.
Hush, daughter! You must never express honest, amusing opinions in the privacy of your own home! You must be chastised and change your opinions to state-sanctioned ones immediately!
Ffs.

I was delighted that my DH had bought some Primark joggers recently to wear at home. He is the clumsiest person in the world and it will save his decent clothes from constantly being ruined by food/drink/mud/paint etc.

TheNavigator · 09/12/2018 16:29

Jeez louise people are uptight on this board. The DD wasn't laughing at the homeless, she was ribbing her dad for looking like a 'hobo' - which is a silly fun word of itself - just the sort of leg pulling we do at home. We certainly take the micky out of each others clothes, but I won't say how on this board or we would be lynched (I will just bravely mention DH's new boots that looked like he was looking for a gay bar, gay bar).

Anyway, there is definitely a happy medium between work wear and baggy tracky bottoms. My DH has some black lounging trousers that aren't too bad with a soft grandad neck style top, but it must be said he is no style icon.

VictoryOrValhalla · 09/12/2018 16:30

there's always one.

No, there have been quite a few on this thread.

Good on you to be offended on someone's behalf grin

Because a MNer could never have been homeless themselves? Hmm I think you’ll find there have been quite a few MNers who have or are homeless. Do you think you’re in some middle class protected bubble here?

I am still free to make joke of whatever I wish

Of course, but not free from being told it’s unacceptable.

VictoryOrValhalla · 09/12/2018 16:31

What does hobo mean?

Sarcelle · 09/12/2018 16:34

I take my bra off when I get home. I have some camisoles with hidden support and these are more comfortable than wearing a bra. I have some lounging type bottoms too. I need to get some new ones, some of the bottoms are too baggy now. But I am at home, and comfortable, and that's the main thing.

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 09/12/2018 16:34

Victory It's kind of like a tramp.

My DH wears Primark joggers and they are baggy, that's the way they're supposed to be. He also wears jersey type material pyjama bottoms. I think they also come from Primark, or somewhere like ASDA.

VictoryOrValhalla · 09/12/2018 16:36

Exactly little.

oh cheer up ,you know nothing about any of me or the other posters or what anyone has been through.

Some of us also make fun of hardship and heartache, others call it bad taste. Each to their own.
You think it's unacceptable, I think it's a light joke. No one cares either way, and we all go on with our days.

My DP used to relax in jeans until I encouraged him to wear joggers and a tee which is what he changes into when he gets out of his suit, don't see the issue here

Tonicandginn · 09/12/2018 16:43

Mine wears his PJ bottoms (for some reason he doesn’t open any of the matching tops) and the standard navy blue dressing gown that every adult male seems to own.

On another note the comments by your DD sounds like it was only teasing rather than malicious! I’ve made fun of my own dads awful fashion choices many a time Grin

VictoryOrValhalla · 09/12/2018 16:45

oh cheer up ,you know nothing about any of me or the other posters or what anyone has been through.

That was exactly my point. Hmm you don’t know who you are speaking to on this board to decide that someone is taking offence on behalf of someone else.

No one cares either way, and we all go on with our days

You mean you don’t care so why should anyone else.

Klobuchar · 09/12/2018 16:45

I think it’s ok to rib a family member about an item of clothing that you think looks a bit ridiculous on them but why do a post on it?

VictoryOrValhalla · 09/12/2018 16:46

And now you’re deliberately goading. Lovely.

KnittingOnEmpty · 09/12/2018 16:47

Boxcar Willie was an American hobo wasn't he? What about that film the Littlest Hobo. Means a travelling person free of spirit, works where they get it, kips where they can. I wouldn't refer to today's homeless as 'hobos'. Don't think the daughter was being offensive in this context
Like saying 'baglady'.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/12/2018 16:47

She’s doing a post on it because she wants advice about wear to buy some nice leisure wear for him. I thought that was clear.

cariadlet · 09/12/2018 16:48

Poor bloke. What's wrong with wanting to relax and feel comfortable in your own house? I thought from the title that you were embarrassed by the clothes that he chooses to wear when going out with your in the evening.

IamSusan · 09/12/2018 16:50

No one cares either way, and we all go on with our days

you are in a bad mood, aren't you!
I meant that you don't care that I am not offended by humour, I don't care if you find my humour offensive.

I do find your haughty attitude on a thread about pyjama a bit over the top however, you like to think you are better than everyone else, don't you!

mintbiscuit · 09/12/2018 16:52

OP, I get where you’re coming from.

I’ll probably get flamed for this but I hate tracksuit bottoms with a passion. If DH started wearing these in doors I would have to say something. (Tbh I can’t imagine he ever would but I’ve now just had the conversation just in case Grin )

violeticecream · 09/12/2018 16:54

Yikes. I didn't realise that word was so offensive. It was just silly teasing. We all do it. Myself, partner and three teenagers. I suppose we have quite a sarky sense of humour. Like my 18 yr old son will say oh my god mum. Look at your hair it's like a birds nest. Ha ha. I laugh aswell.
Anyway. In no way at all do any of us look down on homeless people. Of course not. I am also not a snob. Far from it.

My partner wears a superman onesie (from Primark) to lounge around in. I genuinely don’t mind, I think it looks quite cute! And I wear Mickey Mouse pyjamas. We are in our 40s. Each to their own.

VictoryOrValhalla · 09/12/2018 16:56

Oh Susan. What a pleasant person you are.
