To not like my spice rack?!

ErNothankyou · 08/12/2018 21:52

I've got one as a present despite having said no thank you to the offer.

Its such an innocuous item but it just bothers me to look at! My best friend thinks it's odd not to have one. So does the gift buyer clearly.

Does everyone own one?

Nope, mine are just in the cupboard on the shelf

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 08/12/2018 22:01

We have ours in an old Jacobs crackers box, on a shelf in the cupboard. Can pull the whole thing out if we need to, but it’s out of the way for the most part.

DaphneDiligaf · 08/12/2018 22:03

I have had two and chucked them, together with several out of date spices.

Fluffyears · 08/12/2018 22:04

O store mine inside mu slow cooker u til I need to use it.

IncomingCannonFire · 08/12/2018 22:04

Nope. Have them in a large tupperware box on the shelf. They were in the narrow drawer next to cooker, but toddler found them and likes to sniff the contents and then pour them out.

MrsTommyBanks · 08/12/2018 22:06

My Mum had one in the 80s. They might be on their way back in.
Mine take up a shelf in one of my kitchen cupboards.
I've always fancied one of those dishes with sections, but don't trust my memory of which spice is which.
I might nick the tin idea.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 08/12/2018 22:07

No. I have a drawer that I use for them. I find spice racks a bit old fashioned myself.

greyspottedgoose · 08/12/2018 22:10

I got a spice rack that screws into the inside of a cupboard door, it's amazing 💪🏼

We have recently moved in and previously i thought I would want one. But now, no way, I like our sides clear and uncluttered!

E20mom · 08/12/2018 22:11

No. I like everything to be in the cupboard and have a clear kitchen. So much easier to clean.

ErNothankyou · 08/12/2018 22:19

Not just me being awkward then. Mine were just shoved in cupboard before. Admittedly my cupboards are a bit disorganised but doesn't bother me.

I'm liking the biscuit tin in the cupboard idea.

Bigonesmallone3 · 08/12/2018 22:37

I don't like stuff out on the sides.. never had a spice rack, just line them up in the cupboard and even then they r barely used..

UpstartCrow · 08/12/2018 22:39

Ours are in a tupperware box in the cupboard because we actually use them. If you keep them out on display they go off very quickly.

mogtheexcellent · 08/12/2018 22:41

I have a pull out spice rack drawer. Most of the spices out of date though...

Ameliablue · 08/12/2018 22:42

I don't have mine in neat little jars as some spices I buy in bigger packs than others so I just have a tub with them in.

Bagadverts · 08/12/2018 22:50

Would never use or give one any half if I got them. My friends really enjoy cooking Indian food so would be very bad value.

goodwinter · 08/12/2018 22:58

We just bought one for our new house - it's one of those cupboard door ones but we ended up putting it on the wall as it was tricky to fit around the shelves. I'm actually quite excited about it - they were all in a drawer in our old flat, but it's so handy to have them really accessible as we use several of them every day. Can't imagine having them shut away in a box!

BouleBaker · 09/12/2018 06:24

Ours are in a pull out draw with labels on the lids. Much better to keep them out of sunlight.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 09/12/2018 06:49

Mine are in a wooden wine box on its side. The top of the box was a shelf for other kitchen crap essentials like the timer and stuff the kids made in primary school. I threw the top stuff out a month ago.
Now thinking of moving the whole box somewhere although I do use them everyday.

confusedandemployed · 09/12/2018 06:51

I have a spice rack, but it's more of a mini shelving unit screwed to the wall.

sueelleker · 09/12/2018 09:01

I have some of these from the 70's. Unfortunately the new Schwartz jars don't fit them.www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Schwartz-Pine-7-Jar-Spice-Rack-Original-box-/153288940813

Alfie190 · 09/12/2018 09:20

I have way too many for any spice rack or biscuit tin to accommodate, they take up an entire cupboard.

Bluesheep8 · 09/12/2018 09:41

Mine take up an entire cupboard too so a spice rack just wouldn't cut it. Plus they keep better out of sunlight.

AwakeNow · 09/12/2018 09:51

They are ok if the bottles are the size that suits your needs. Mine are in a cuppboard by the oven.I prefer not to have anything on the surfaces though, mine are in a cuppboard.
