Spiders are amazing

Unsurprisinglysurprising · 06/12/2018 18:49

I just watched a very delicate looking spider walk slowly and carefully across the floor. I googled and there are over 35,000 different types of spider Shock

They don't scare me. As long as they aren't in my bed I don't care where they go. I get that they sometimes appear suddenly and scuttle but this one was very elegant.

Yes I know.

JustABetterPlayer · 06/12/2018 18:53

I agree, and they do a lot of good 😄

BoswellTheUnreal · 06/12/2018 18:55

I love spiders, skinny ones, big ones, stripey ones, tiny ones and those little ones that bounce when you go to move them somewhere safe, put your hand out and 'boing' off they go.

redsummershoes · 06/12/2018 18:57

yanbu
they are fascinating to observe
they have (almost) free reign in my house
I still don't want to touch them though

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/12/2018 19:08

Well of course they are, especially my baby spider. WinkGrin

After a late-ish night at my friends house (wine may have been involved) back at the end of summer, DDs and I left in the dark and her and her DDs were at the door, to wave us off. She warned us to be careful because there was a hornets nest nearby and they dive bombed anyone coming out of the door at night. She was right, we got dive bombed almost immediately but unfortunately for the hornet it missed and went down the door jamb. And immediately got caught in a spiders web. We then all watched absolutely transfixed for about 15 mins as the, comparatively small, spider came running out and a battle royale ensued. The hornet kept trying to curl its sting round to fight the spider off but to no avail. It was genuinely, utterly amazing. New found respect for spiders for all of us.

John4703 · 06/12/2018 19:43

Spiders are wonderful.

Mumof1DS · 06/12/2018 19:50

As long as they're not in my house...

ByeGermsByeWorries · 06/12/2018 20:00

I love spiders :) I have lots of tarantulas, they're very interesting and it brings me a lot of entertainment to watch them eat and move around. Smile

lidoshuffle · 06/12/2018 20:03

Apparently they are great mothers too!

drayday · 06/12/2018 20:04

Yep, count me in. Love watching them make was too.

mummyhaschangedhername · 06/12/2018 20:06

My four year old daughter has requested a spider for Christmas from Santa. 😂 she saw a massive one that climbs the walls, my mother who is usually terrified of spiders bought it for her, she went around the shop hugging and kissing this spider in the box. 😂 so come Christmas morning we will have a massive spider toy 😂

I don't like them on me, but I don't usually mind them. Beetles though 💀😱

WendyWarthog · 06/12/2018 20:10

Totally agree. I fell out with someone because she insisted on killing them rather than catching and releasing them.

I might have laughed a bit when she had to move out of her house for a week due to a wasp infestation. Nowt to do with spiders I know but it felt a bit like the arachnid and insect families were getting their revenge together.

foxyknoxy30 · 06/12/2018 20:12

Spiders are gorgeous

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 06/12/2018 20:13

ByeGermsByeWorries

Would you recommend a Honduran Curly Hair for a beginner?

The one I held was very calm and so sweet.

I am former spider hater ‘not their hugest fan’

BunsOfAnarchy · 06/12/2018 20:17

No.
YABVVVVVVVU.
You have no idea how many times they have held 8 tiny guns to my head and scared me shitless.
I only got married so i had a personal spider hitman at my beck and call.
(Hes more of a spider courier, no spideys have been killed...so far)

GraceMarks · 06/12/2018 20:19

I'm on the side of the ugly and the ostracised generally. Spiders, beetles, snakes, rats - love them all. I think it comes down to fellow feeling!

CoffeeMilk2SugarsPlease · 06/12/2018 20:24

I don't find them fascinating but generally aren't bothered about them being in the house. I name them. The only times they get removed are if they are in bedrooms or bathroom or in a spot that DS would be able to see it (he's terrified of them) the one currently chilling in the top corner of my kitchen is pleasant company, his name is Frederick hasn't moved in days and I couldn't reach him even if I wanted him out!

Athena51 · 06/12/2018 20:28

If spiders come into my home I will peacefully co-exist with them. Some of them I've actually become rather fond of Smile

AriadnePersephoneCloud · 06/12/2018 20:32

Yep, we coexist in this house quite happily. I will put the odd one outside if it's scaring one of the kids, but I try to just leave them be. Generally the kids will now ignore them too unless they are above their beds. We certainly wouldn't deliberately kill them.

RockYourSocksOff · 06/12/2018 20:33

We have one in the house atm who is guarding a ball of eggs. I can’t bring myself to destroy it all.

Sorry.

She is quite small though and nothing too scary. I’m great with spiders though and can scoop them up with both hands and release them into the wilderness. Not the huge ones, they have to go in a glass first. Couldn’t kill one though.

So, I will await the spiderlings epic journey and hopefully move them on to pastures new once they make an appearance.

Oysterbabe · 06/12/2018 20:39

There was a MASSIVE one that came strolling into the lounge one morning a few months ago. I squealed and stamped my feet to try and get it to run away from me but it charged towards me. I scooped up the baby and ran. I sent DH down to get rid of it but he never found it. I haven't had bare feet inside since.

My mum was absolutely terrified of them, she would scream and scream. I've got my fear from her. It's not as bad but still bad.

DMCWelshCakes · 06/12/2018 20:40

I love spiders. They're amazing.

We name all the spiders in our house because then they're friends and we can't be scared of our friends. DC weren't scared of spiders at all until one of the nursery teachers freaked out & made them scared.

DH doesn't like them so I do all the insect and arachnid wrangling at our house.

Tackytriceratops · 06/12/2018 20:43

Ooooh yes, jumping spiders are the cutest!

MonsterTequila · 06/12/2018 20:49

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
