Some people really are miserable bastards

At work today went to the loo.

Noticed that someone had placed a little basket with ribbons round it containing tampons and pads etc on the back of the loo and I must admit I was thinking how really sweet that was and I mentioned it to my colleagues on my return.

Turns out our Union (ribbons were Union colours) have been doing it all over the county not sure why (presume connected to international year of the woman and gaining the vote etc) but I think it’s a really lovely idea.

Women from another team comes in moaning that “well if we let service users use that toilet they’ll all get stolen and they will probably take the basket too” (loo is next to the conference room.

I though you awful old cow - if anyone is that desperate that they need to nick some free tampons then be my bloody guest.

This is a women who has spent a day at “work” (public sector) this week decorating her desk with tinsel and a Christmas tree.

Humph Sad

Why are people

ElainaElephant · 05/12/2018 20:14

I don't know why people are.

But they are.

Yanbu.

Merryoldgoat · 05/12/2018 20:18

I would’ve said exactly that to the moany bint.

YANBU

Ragevibration · 05/12/2018 20:19

YANBU... some people are just plain miserable about everything.

Sparklesocks · 05/12/2018 20:20

Some people just love to rain on other people’s parade, goodness knows why. A feeling of superiority maybe?

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 05/12/2018 20:21

How strange. I had this today. Not union tampons but I had been given loads of free ones and put them in the loo at work last week (school toilet used by staff and parents.) They were all in little packs so I left them in a gift bag on top.
Today one of the office staff sought me out especially to tell me that ‘somebody has had the cheek to take loads of them’ in a really snidey way.
I said ‘good, I hope that they’ve gone to someone who needs them’ and she stalked off with a face like a slapped arse.

Some people are so odd and unpleasant.

BrightStarrySky · 05/12/2018 20:22

YANBU

But don’t let it get you down as there are many kind people out there too.

MrsDylanBlue · 05/12/2018 20:22

I know it’s silly but it just really touched me.

I work for the council and we so rarely get anything for free 😂😂

"if anyone is that desperate that they need to nick some free tampons then be my bloody guest."

If only it was desperate people that stole such things. IME, it's cheeky entitled twats.

But it depends on who your service users are, of course.

"I though you awful old cow"

Nice bit of ageism there, not as perfect as you think you are.

MrsDylanBlue · 05/12/2018 20:26

We are social care - so yes if people steal them they probably need them.

She’s not old - she’s just a cow.

OP posts:
Feefeetrixabelle · 05/12/2018 20:34

Ageism birshavegotfly?? Have you never heard the phrase silly
Old cow? It’s applied to young and old alike. I think you’d get on with the ops colleague- peas in a pod.

LL83 · 05/12/2018 20:35

She is miserable. It is probably related to the issue of 'period poverty' and the service users are likely to be more in need than the employees.

lazyarse123 · 05/12/2018 20:36

My dh is like that (not about tampons obvs), he won't put any ornaments or plant pots in the front garden "in case they get nicked" we have a christmas tree outside my work with decs and lights as a tribute to a young person who died, he said the same thing, "i wouldn't have done that it'll get pinched". It's a very negative miserable way to live. Fortunately the rest of us aren't like that.

SleightOfMind · 05/12/2018 20:44

It is weird when people are resentful of others getting things they don’t want or need themselves.

There was a mum in the supermarket ahead of me who was going to put back items that had been wrongly priced so she couldn’t afford them.
I got them for her and after she’d gone and I was doing mine, the man behind me had a grumble at me for encouraging scroungers.

I wish I’d told him off but I had my DC with me and there was a long queue.

It was only £3 worth of boring foodstuffs I helped her out with. His stuff on the belt was all treats and booze too.

BlimeyCalmDown · 05/12/2018 20:47

They are having them in loads of work places now due to 'period poverty'

BlimeyCalmDown · 05/12/2018 20:51

@birdsgottafly get back in your box...

InfiniteVariety · 05/12/2018 20:53

SleightOfMind I had exactly the same once from someone who saw me give £5 to a homeless man in a doorway on a freezing cold night - he followed me for several minutes scolding me and mansplaining why I shouldn't have done it. Like you, I wanted to tell him to fuck off but I had my 3 year old with me

EustaciaPieface · 05/12/2018 21:03

I work for a university and we provide free sanitary protection for everyone, staff and students, I think it’s a great idea. YANBU x

MrsDylanBlue · 05/12/2018 21:16

I think it’s a fantastic idea. I really marvelled over it Blush

I always buy them and put them in the food bacmnk basket thing.

Must be awful to worry about buying tampons and pads Sad

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 05/12/2018 21:19

She's not old - she's just a cow

Why use the phrase then?

However I agree with you apart from that - it was a nice gesture and it does seem miserable to moan about it.

MrsDylanBlue · 05/12/2018 21:24

It’s a phrase “old cow”

Seriously though Hmm

OP posts:
Lalliella · 05/12/2018 21:30

We were TUPE-transferred to a new employer, same offices, and the new employer put nice hand cream in the loos, by the end of the day it had been nicked Sad

sweetkitty · 06/12/2018 12:17

Also lovely if you are got short don’t have any protection on you.

MrsJayy · 06/12/2018 12:24

Period poverty is quite big news at the moment some women and girls just don't have access to protection so organisations providing sanitary protection is the new in thing to do. anyway your workmate is a miserable moo yes somebody might lift more than 1 but who cares she probably needs them and that is what they are there for.

PinkHeart5914 · 06/12/2018 12:29

No it’s not only people in need that take stuff, some people are just tighter than a ducks arse and take stuff anyway.

When doing something like this you just do it in good faith and accept a few people are going to fill their pockets

MrsJayy · 06/12/2018 12:31

You are totally right some folk are like ooo free stuff
