London! Inspired by another thread. Come and champion your side of the river Thames! Aibu to ask - which do you prefer - North or South London Smile

South London has way more character, nicer open Spaces: Greenwich, Blackheath, Crystal Palace, Clapham Common, Wimbledon.
North London is way too stressful, cramped and full of A roads (my auntie in north London declares the same about south Grin)

JessieMcJessie · 05/12/2018 08:28

Yes, I agree and the Clapham-dweller was not good enough in bed to make it worth risking my life several mornings a week! Clapham Common it is I think, it’s the middle one between North and South.

Essential Hummus I have been to HH on countless sunny weekend afternoons and it’s never crowded. Only gets busy round Kenwood when there’s a concert on. To me Bushy Park and Richmond Park are barely London, they’re so far West. Crystal Palace park is waaay overrated. Which parks were you thinking of?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/12/2018 08:28

South London for life, fam.

Born Hammersmith, lived in Islington, Tottenham, Greenwich, New Cross, Shepherds Bush.

South London ( I live in Streatham) may not have the skyscrapers and the square mile, but it has grit and character and green spaces and soul.
And chicken shops. Lots and lots of chicken shops.

fredleighton · 05/12/2018 08:34

South. I feel a smile rising up in my stomach when I cross the river on my way home.

mrsseashell · 05/12/2018 08:42

South! Cl'am common to be precise

DappledThings · 05/12/2018 08:43

South South South!

Moved out of London now but if we ever come back (maybe downsizing in retirement) it will be back to lovely SE somewhere

NotFeelingGood · 05/12/2018 08:45

@ladyofthecanyon I used to live in Streatham and counted 18 chicken shops between my flat and my gym!

NotFeelingGood · 05/12/2018 08:47

I do love Streatham though and Herne Hill, Dulwich and Crystal Palace. Moved a bit further past Twickenham now though.

I wouldn't have thought Isleworth was South.

bengalcat · 05/12/2018 09:34

Live just 10 min walk North of the river but often venture South to Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common with the hound - Hyde Park fab for chasing squirrels though ( dog not me )

Yeah, there's really not enough gyms to balance out the Morleys!

LuckyAmy1986 · 05/12/2018 09:58

I have lived in both and don’t know if I could choose!! Although as my dc were born at ST Thomas I’ll say South, just!!!!

LadyPasserine · 05/12/2018 10:04

North definitely. In fact quite far North, far, far out on the edges.

Like Windermere or Ambleside.

Dbrook · 05/12/2018 10:21

South. SW London (Wimbledon, Richmond, Putney) for the greenery and slightly wholesome vibes, and SE London (Brixton, Peckham, Herne Hill) for something a bit cooler and more dynamic.

The transport is better in North London though.

ToastedSandwichObsession · 05/12/2018 10:37

I spent much of my childhood in north London due to close family living there although we actually never lived in London at all. But I did spend a few years in south London as a adult many moons ago. North always felt like proper London compared to the south.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/12/2018 10:37

to be fair south london does lack the tube options- fortunately they are extending the Bakerloo down via Lewisham

SlackerMum1 · 05/12/2018 10:52

Caught myself the other day explaining to DD in St John’s Wood that it’s all very different up here... because we’re river people..... don’t stray far from the docks and you can’t go wrong! Unless it’s west of selfridges... shudders

NisekoWhistler · 05/12/2018 10:54

South (west) is best

Amaaboutthis · 05/12/2018 10:56

North obviously. What silly kind of question is that?

RiverTam · 05/12/2018 12:41

Onlyfools not having the tube isn't a bad thing!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/12/2018 12:53

RiverTam it is when held to ransom by South Eastern Rail...scumbags

RiverTam · 05/12/2018 12:57

Ah, where I am there there are many options!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/12/2018 13:12

having moaned though I champion my South still Grin

Craft1905 · 05/12/2018 13:14

I wouldn't have thought Isleworth was South.

It's west. You can't be south if you are north of the river, even if you have an SW postcode.
