I have just read forty pages of thread and it’s almost full! Let us congregate here for answers!

Sorry shartgoblin that doesn’t help me one iota!

BloodyUseless · 05/12/2018 10:05

Just tell us OP, I assume the answer is that you can't say the answer....fgs just tell us 🤬

There are philosophical issues with this sentence.

BackstreetsBackAlright · 05/12/2018 10:07

Derek gave a clue. Apples, pears. Cockney slang for stairs?
But the ‘stairs’ bit was irrelevant apparently?

ShartGoblin · 05/12/2018 10:09

I'm basically just stalking Derek now Grin

MummyVaughan13 · 05/12/2018 10:09

Why cant derek reveal it.. why cant you just say the answer and we all go oh thats crap or work out what it actually means after.. this is like a form of bullying.. i wish id never opened this GOD FORSAKEN PANDORAS BOX

clairethewitch70 · 05/12/2018 10:09

Bos could mean book of shadows. Someone mentioned a clue of spirit (shadow)? Maybe he is a ghost

Thegirlinthefireplace · 05/12/2018 10:13

It's bollocks. OP and Derek could simply quote the post that gave them the answer. They both choose not to. It's a wind up folks, let it go!

3WildOnes · 05/12/2018 10:17

people love to feel smart so they would say if they Knew. There obviously is no answer and it’s just a load of bollocks.

Dairyqueen2 · 05/12/2018 10:17

I don't know what's more annoying - the utter anticlimax or people still putting forward their half-baked guesses ...

Storm4star · 05/12/2018 10:19

Yes, I have to say the OP lost me when she said she can't reveal the answer. There is no answer that would prevent you from revealing it to someone else. And she's spent 20 years wondering about this and finally realised the answer when she started this thread? Sounds a little too convenient to me!

SheilaBruce · 05/12/2018 10:19

I think the answer is on the previous thread

Picture the scene. Christmas 1993. Uncle Knobhead is a bit tipsy and regaling the fam with more hilarious tales. He starts another story with the words:

"There was a man whose name was Boswell, for short they called him Bos, andhewalkedupthepostofficesteps..."

And quick as a flash someone wittily intercepted with "that's not short for Boswell!!"

And how they all laughed. Auntie Janice peed her pants, mum dropped the sprouts and the Bos joke was immortalised for ever. It may well have been quite funny at the time but you probably had to be there.

I BET THIS IS EXACTLY HOW IT ALL HAPPENED!!

And it's been an in-joke forever more. The OP says the family are adamant that it could be a different gender and a different location and it doesn't have to be stairs etc, etc, etc. It's all about the delivery of the line.

BloodyUseless · 05/12/2018 10:20

Is it actually funny

No.

or is a proper riddle?

I'd say it was stretching the definition.

Storm4star · 05/12/2018 10:24

So if it isn't actually funny, nor is it a proper riddle, I think someone should just reveal the answer. It doesn't matter if it works better to get it yourself. I think we're all getting a bit tired of it now and would rather just know!

dogzdinner · 05/12/2018 10:25

If there really is an answer and I work it out I promise to tell you all

IamAporcupine · 05/12/2018 10:25

I'd say it was stretching the definition

A thought? A revelation?
wtf is phylosophical about it?
would 'something' happen if you tell the answer?

Drogosnextwife · 05/12/2018 10:26

🖕
To anyone who has got this and won't tell us!

IamAporcupine · 05/12/2018 10:26

*told

TimeIhadaNameChange · 05/12/2018 10:26

Questions for those who have got it:

Is it a play on words?
Is in a aural thing?
Are Bos and 'he' one and the same?
Are the clues which can help get to the solution on this thread, or only on the previous one?

MummyVaughan13 · 05/12/2018 10:27

@derekthewonderdog give us a clue would you!

IamAporcupine · 05/12/2018 10:27

oh, and @BloodyUseless - the OP said that her uncle translated it into greek - does it really work in other languages?!

CasanovaFrankenstein · 05/12/2018 10:27

What was Derek’s answer? I became hysterical after reading Thereonce as a name. (I quite like it. Better than Abcde anyway.)

TimeIhadaNameChange · 05/12/2018 10:28

Oh, and since the answer can't be revealed (apparently) does that mean that silence or being mute comes into the solution somewhere?

BumbleyBum · 05/12/2018 10:29
Confused
LisaSimpsonsbff · 05/12/2018 10:30

Ok, I think the chance that this isn't just a troll has no evaporated. It is frustrating but I think we should all accept it.

dogzdinner · 05/12/2018 10:32

The friend's mum was going to tell her on her wedding day - so you can't tell anyone but you can on their wedding day?
