Fuck

Roussette · 20/12/2018 22:55

Reading it again....he doesn't 'hint'... he's very matter of fact that his views don't align with Trumps

Oh and following on from the nostalgia from earlier Smile

I wish Trump drank alcohol. It would explain why he has tweeted this of himself saying he's signing the Farm Bill in 15 minutes.

And no, this is not from a parody Trump account. It really is the POTUS Shock

Lweji · 20/12/2018 23:01

Did it happen last year? Or 100 years ago?

The sense of it being a reality show can really be overwhelming sometimes

Tune in to next week’s episode to find out!

'Keeping the country’s military leadership in the dark about withdrawing US troops from a war-zone is without precedent and speaks to turmoil and disarray inside the Oval Office, not to mention a complete breakdown of civil-military relations'

Hence Mattis's resignation. He was the only adult left keeping DJT from the nuclear codes... Shock

Mattis' resignation letter

PerkingFaintly · 21/12/2018 01:00

I'd like to enjoy for a moment Mattis's coded demolitiion of the 45th President of the United States, his Commander in Chief.

But unfortunately @TranslateRealDT's list is true. So there's not a lot of joy to be had.

On the plus side, Mattis is planning to stay in post till February, ie till the new Congress.

Scrotus is ordering troops out of Afghanistan. Fucker is just going to merrily turn the entire ME over to Putin.

From the Wall Street Journal. It's behind a paywall so here's the article.

WASHINGTON — A day after a contested decision to pull American military forces from Syria, officials said Thursday that President Donald Trump has ordered the start of a reduction of American forces in Afghanistan.

More than 7,000 American troops will begin to return home from Afghanistan in the coming weeks, a U.S. official said. The move will come as the first stage of a phased drawdown and the start of a conclusion to the 17-year war that officials say could take at least many months. There now are more than 14,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Trump announced Wednesday that he would pull all of the more than 2,000 American troops from Syria.

Taken together, the Syria withdrawal and the likely Afghan drawdown represent a dramatic shift in the U.S. approach to military engagement in hot spots around the world, reflecting Mr. Trump’s aversion to long-running military entanglements with their high costs and American casualties.

“I think it shows how serious the president is about wanting to come out of conflicts,” a senior U.S. official said of how the Syria decision affects his thinking on Afghanistan. “I think he wants to see viable options about how to bring conflicts to a close.”

Can someone explain (in simple terms please Grin) how the funding of government agencies works in the US?

Why do they have to approve the funding so many times and why if the bill is not approved all funding stops? Why can't salaries be paid, offices remain open?

MerdedeBrexit · 21/12/2018 05:46

Is it time for a military coup yet?

MerdedeBrexit · 21/12/2018 06:12

Pain, unfortunately, we know the little idiot (aka "stupid man") in the White House doesn't have the capacity to comprehend the insults inherent in Mattis's resignation letter.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 21/12/2018 08:01

Hello cricketballs this link may help with the explanation re government shutdown.
www.crfb.org/papers/qa-everything-you-should-know-about-government-shutdowns

But as far as I understand - the government's budget is set and approved yearly. Back in October when the budget year "starts" not everything was fully approved and the time limit for all the outstanding budgets not yet approved ends on Dec 21st.

Roussette · 21/12/2018 08:08

So as I understand it, his £5billion request for the Wall has passed the House 217-185 but Republicans only voted for it because they knew the Senate wouldn't pass it? Are they completely spineless and has DJT got something on all of them?

Today's going to be a rocky day then... as this is paving the way for a shutdown. He's ordering everyone to call them steel slats. He thinks that sounds better. I presume he is taking a backhander from the Co who coined this phrase and who he wants to construct the wall.

This is well worth watching if the link works. Dem. Tim Ryan wipes the floor with Trump and GOP.

MerdedeBrexit · 21/12/2018 10:12

Thanks for that, Roussette, watching that clip is immensely satisfying. (Although along with it is the rider, why on earth haven't Democrats been saying this loudly on the floor of the House for the past two years?)

Gumpendorf · 21/12/2018 10:14

So much happening thar my head is spinning but, as always, along comes Rachel to join the dots. She has a couple of fab similes too Grin

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/trump-infidelity-to-allies-drives-mattis-to-resign-in-protest-1403773507510

PerkingFaintly · 21/12/2018 12:55

Heh, yes Mattis' letter is very pas devant l'enfant. But everyone else will understand it.

Except Fox viewers, whose channel has been selective in what it told them, if a tweet on that bryantaylorcohen thread is to be believed.

And a very helpful Maddow clip. Amongst other things, she gives the timeline of
– 45 announces US troops coming out of Syria
– Vlad broadcasts his once-a-year press conference and pivots straight from Syria to "but US troops are in Afghanistan".
– half an hour later, 45 announces will start pulling US troops out of Afghanistan.

So, same as 45 watching Fox News and following their steers.

PerkingFaintly · 21/12/2018 13:02

Not so keen that Maddow continually states that in any other administration, XYZ would be a big deal but under Trump this is just what we've gotten used to.

She's right, of course. But there's evidence that continually mentioning a bad state of affairs actually normalises it and helps people become accepting and fatalistic: "it's just how things are."

Eg There was research recently suggesting that continually mentioning the glass ceiling actually reinforces it in people's minds.
