Councils should start taxing dog owners

In order to afford more dog wardens and have more resources to deal with those people who don’t pick up after their dogs.

I live in what would be considered to be a nice area, however it seems that half the dog owners can’t be bothered to pick up after their dogs and the streets are an absolute mess. I’m absolutley sick of it.

Our council has to make even more cuts over the next year, which will be felt more severely than any others in the past as this is now going to seriously impact social care, SEN provision, social work etc.... councils could generate additional income to deal with the problem caused by irresponsible dog owners.

You’ll probably ask how is it fair for all dog owners to be penalised due to a “minority”. However you could apply this argument to many other areas that we all collectively pay for, but may not benefit from.

So it’s time to take action to deal with dirty dog owners once and for all!!

Shepardspieisminging, your solution is that people no longer have cats or dogs? I presume you're not a cat or dog person? Your argument is based solely on your personal preference and nothing else.

agedknees · 04/12/2018 17:35

I would tax people for leave chewing gum on pavements, and cigarette ends.

Sorry, I meant when parents have to PAY a tax for their children
hahaha
there you go again dog owner
proving (because you all instinctively jump to that analogy) that dogs are metaphorically equivalent to children in the minds of their owners

purplegoat · 04/12/2018 17:47

No. I'm pointing out how fucking stupid your arguments are by countering with an equally stupid point.

WendyWoofer · 04/12/2018 17:49

My child doesn't piss up lamp posts and shit on the street, therefore doesn't need intervention to clean up after.
Similarly, he doesn't make children blind by shitting on parks. Doesn't bite people or have fleas, doesn't slobber anywhere or threaten anyone.
HTH

Neither do my digs. Am I exempt from the hypothetical dog tax? Seeing as the hypothetical dog tax is to pay someone to clean up dogs mess.

My dogs crap in the garden, first thing in the morning and after they've had their dinner around 6pm so inbetween walks. I'm happy to pick my dogs turds up. They can't pick it up themselves so the onus falls on me, as their owner 🤷‍♀️

Neededastealthname · 04/12/2018 17:52

Shepardspieisminging, I was referring to you saying if people stopped owning cats and dogs.

Wordthe, I have a child and a dog, I would prefer I wasn't taxed for either or told I couldn't have them.

Also you two have taken a thread about a topic that does need addressing and turned it into a ridiculous childish "well I don't like dogs and you're all stoopid and treat them like babies, ewww", so cheers for that Hmm

CaptainShark · 04/12/2018 17:57

Yabvu op for many of the reasons pps have given. Also, what about homeless people who own dogs... How and why would you want to take money from them for your poo tax?!
I am a dog owner, I always pick up after my dog and I hate people who don't. I think there has to be a viable solution but your idea is flawed!

MakeAHouseAHome · 04/12/2018 19:21

Sheoardspieisminging, children do equally as disgusting things that I would rather not have to be subjected to!! Additionally, I already have to pay for your 'darling children' to go to school.

Happypie · 04/12/2018 20:02

MAkeahouse I don’t have to wash kids poo off my shoes or pram wheels.

BumDisease · 04/12/2018 20:18

"MAkeahouse I don’t have to wash kids poo off my shoes or pram wheels."

You'd be surprised...

Schuyler · 04/12/2018 20:29

While I don’t deny some gross people let their dogs shit where humans walk and it’s revolting, I do think there’s a bit of exaggeration from some people. On my local Facebook group, there are some who talk about the pavements being covered and “you can’t take a step without dodging it”. That’s a ridiculous exaggeration. That said, nobody wants to step in or wheel through a grim dog turd!

@SonEt, compulsory chipping and a dog licence which costs hundreds of pounds sounds like it would help with problem dog owners, but does it?

NigelGresley · 04/12/2018 21:25

Additionally, I already have to pay for your 'darling children' to go to school.

Ah for gods sake, I’m sick of seeing narrow minded comments like this. It’s not only for our benefit that kids go to school!! Won’t you be bothered that there are no doctors, engineers, scientists, police, etc...etc when you’re older? No younger people paying taxes and working in care homes?

Children are not comparable to dogs!!!

Wordthe · 04/12/2018 21:32

Maybe she is homeschooling her dog so that it will be able to provide care as she gets older?

Leonie87 · 04/12/2018 21:38

Are dog owners on this thread actually justifying not picking up after their dog? Watch where you’re walking what the actual fuck?!

Fucking ridiculous.

Leonie87 · 04/12/2018 21:42

I’d love a dog ban. Fed up with owners inflicting them on everyone else. Wandering up and sniffing your crotch in the park while the owner simpers about how friendly he is. Get to fuck.

Not the dogs fault. Entirely down to their thick as fuck owners.

Wordthe · 04/12/2018 21:45

I don't think a ban is likely but I do get a sense that public anti dog feelings are rising and so this could lead to some restrictions and legislation

masterandmargarita · 04/12/2018 21:53

Dog owners are rather entitled.

purplegoat · 04/12/2018 22:02

Public anti dog feeling isn't rising. Quite the opposite.
It's just the minority of moaners who moan the loudest. Which is always the case.

WendyWoofer · 04/12/2018 22:03

Dog owners are rather entitled

All dog owners are entitled? Entitled to what? Maybe you could expand so we all know what you're talking about. Entitled to what??

masterandmargarita · 04/12/2018 22:04

Perhaps not, but my own personal anti dog sentiment has definitely risen over the years, as has the amount of dog shit

masterandmargarita · 04/12/2018 22:07

Wendy - they feel entitled to let their dogs shit all over public spaces without clearing it up, or bagging it and then leaving it.
