Councils should start taxing dog owners

In order to afford more dog wardens and have more resources to deal with those people who don’t pick up after their dogs.

I live in what would be considered to be a nice area, however it seems that half the dog owners can’t be bothered to pick up after their dogs and the streets are an absolute mess. I’m absolutley sick of it.

Our council has to make even more cuts over the next year, which will be felt more severely than any others in the past as this is now going to seriously impact social care, SEN provision, social work etc.... councils could generate additional income to deal with the problem caused by irresponsible dog owners.

You’ll probably ask how is it fair for all dog owners to be penalised due to a “minority”. However you could apply this argument to many other areas that we all collectively pay for, but may not benefit from.

So it’s time to take action to deal with dirty dog owners once and for all!!

What's the point of a hairy thing that does nothing but shit and get fleas

but but, it's her fur baby, it has a right to enjoy it's shitting and eating, those are the only pleasures it gets, how can you try to take the fun out of her furbabbies life like that!

What are you all feeding your dogs that makes them shit 5 times on a walk?
there are also a category of dog owners who see picking up shit as a form of intimacy with the dog, being this attentive to the excretory bodily functions creates an quasi sexual bond with the creature, I think it see's you falling on it's shit with delight and then feels it should just shit as much as it can to please it's owner.

Pretty soon the dog is nothing more than a furry piping bag with shit continually oozing out instead of icing

Dogs in flats - my dog was a flat dog and now has a garden, he doesn't bother with it because he is walked enough, my neighbours dog is constantly in the garden, never walked and is clearly going stir crazy.

Plastic poo bags - there are biodegradable ones.

No point in a dog - matter of oppinion/preference/attitude toward animals and also a stupid pointless argument.

I get frustrated with lazy owners who don't clean up but honestly if I was hoping for a change in the laws regarding dog ownership it would be that every owner has to have insurance and it be illegal to buy any pet from someone who isn't a fully licensed breeder. I don't know why animals can be bought and sold so easily!

Maybe if the channels for buying pets weren't so saturated with lowlifes trying to make a quick buck it would be easier to track dogs and enforce laws?

I'll pay a tax for my dog when parents are paid a tax for their children.

MakeAHouseAHome · 04/12/2018 17:15

Sorry, I meant when parents have to PAY a tax for their children.

Crossbreeds don't just appear out of thin air they are bred like any other dog and if breeding ANY animal without a licence were illegal it would make buying an animal on a whim much harder.

purplegoat · 04/12/2018 17:21

How many children are blinded by dog shit in the Uk annually? I'd love to know the numbers.

And of those that are, how many are due to dog shit in their own back gardens from their family dog rather than all this dog shit that is apparently "smeared all over the pavement" (even though no one else sees it

DontMakeMeShushYou · 04/12/2018 17:22

And nobody cares if they stand in mud, you can walk it through the house and it doesn't matter.

Except that many of the people who contract toxocariasis do so from soil (mud) contaminated with infected animal faeces so it most certainly does matter if you are walking it through the house.

Neededastealthname · 04/12/2018 17:22

Shepardspieisminging, somewhere there are people shitting in parks, pissing up lampposts and threatening people, they may even have fleas and be drooling.

Well there could be a tax. If you’re saying people who don’t cause the problem should also contribute why should this be limited to just responsible dog owners who pick up poo (and often other litter in parks and the beach). Surely this should be everyone otherwise I’m not sure why you’re drawing the distinction. Let’s tax all humansto clear up litter eg broken bottles which can cause v nasty life threatening injuries, even if they conscientiously take litter home. Or we could continue as we are and maybe say pay council tax (which obviously would need to be upped for everyone - dog haters included) to pay to clean up a small minority of people creating litter.

purplegoat · 04/12/2018 17:24

I used to be a park ranger and spend the majority of my day cleaning up human excrement, discarded syringes, used condoms, porn and dirty nappies.

None of these were produced by dogs.

All of those responsible were once children.

purplegoat · 04/12/2018 17:26

The likelihood of contracting infected animal faeces would be pretty much obliterated if 'fur baby' people stopped owning cats and dogs.

Or if people stopped having children.

Deadbudgie · 04/12/2018 17:29

Shepherds, are you ok? Would you like to pop over and strike my dog, she doesn’t piss up lampposts (she’s a lady). We always pick up her poo. Has never sent a child blind and has such a calming effect she’s helped me overcome ptsd and live a normalise life! So she really does help😂

SoyDora · 04/12/2018 17:29

I have never called my dog a ‘fur baby’. I don’t know anyone who does. I certainly don’t think they would be the sort of person I’d be friends with! I don’t expect anyone else to care about my dog. I don’t expect anyone else to interact with my dog. I keep my dog on his lead in public places, away from people. I have never, ever not cleaned up his shit.

Deadbudgie · 04/12/2018 17:30

Stroke not strike lol- although I suspect a person like you would like the original post

U2HasTheEdge · 04/12/2018 17:30

When it becomes illegal for cats to shit in my garden, kill wildlife and ruin my plants I might be on board with a dog tax.

I occasionally come across dog crap and it is disgusting but at least other people's dogs aren't coming into my garden to poo.

lilyheather1 · 04/12/2018 17:31

If you're going to tax dog owners for not not picking up you should equally tax cat owners who allow their cats to roam.
