Councils should start taxing dog owners

In order to afford more dog wardens and have more resources to deal with those people who don’t pick up after their dogs.

I live in what would be considered to be a nice area, however it seems that half the dog owners can’t be bothered to pick up after their dogs and the streets are an absolute mess. I’m absolutley sick of it.

Our council has to make even more cuts over the next year, which will be felt more severely than any others in the past as this is now going to seriously impact social care, SEN provision, social work etc.... councils could generate additional income to deal with the problem caused by irresponsible dog owners.

You’ll probably ask how is it fair for all dog owners to be penalised due to a “minority”. However you could apply this argument to many other areas that we all collectively pay for, but may not benefit from.

So it’s time to take action to deal with dirty dog owners once and for all!!

Issuing fines for dog fouling sounds like a good idea but really how enforceable is it, I can't see council's having the man power to monitor dog activities?

I am a dog owner and happily pick up my dogs deposits.
I have heard before of this risk of blindness from dog faeces. Can anyone produce any verifiable stats on how many people are blinded each year by dog pooh?

MakeAHouseAHome · 06/12/2018 12:37

My dog IS just as important as the average human.... not more, not less. He is certainly MORE important than me to any stranger. The obly entitledness comes from parents who think they have MORE rights to go somewhere with their children than a dog owner does with their dog.

I don't expect tk be able to walk into any shop/cafe with my dog but if shop or cafe owners allow/encourage it then why would I not?

And I still stand by my comment re the fact that I pay to send YOUR kids to school. Yes some may turn out to do something worthy with their life - can I get a refund on the ones I paid to educate that end up sponging off the state...

YANBU. I love dogs however entitled dog owners are starting to change my attitude. There are far too many dogs. We have dog walkers walking 6 dogs round here. How can anyone control that?

StaySafe · 06/12/2018 12:50

In reality if you are a conscientious dog owner you never run out of poo bags. my dog died 18 months ago and I still have multiple poo bags in the pockets of most of my outdoor clothes, handbags and (for some strange reason) found some in my evening bag the other day. I think they breed in the darkness of the wardrobe.

Wordthe · 06/12/2018 12:57

Yes I also see the same thing
dog walkers walking multiple dogs
of course if you are paying someone to walk your dog you will want it to get a good walk where it has chance to run off lead
so then you have 6 dogs all off lead causing a nuisance and giving dogs and dog owners a bad name

Yeah yeah yeah, we get you. You hate kids but love dogs. By the way why are you so invested in spreading your loathing on a parenting site? ConfusedConfused

Mumsnet may have started off as a parenting site, that is by no means its only draw any more. It is just a general forum. As you will see from all posts, this is equally a forum for those kids with and without kids.

Wordthe · 06/12/2018 21:37

This is very true!
Mumsnet clearly covers a vast range of subjects it has transcended its roots as a parenting site
any fool can see that 😁

NigelGresley · 06/12/2018 22:52

If you hate children, and delight in taking every opportunity to remind us of that, this doesn’t seem like the right forum for you.

You have no right to tell anyone they shouldn't be on this site. There's lots of non parents here and lots who aren't very fond of children. Lots who don't like cats and lots who love them, the dog lovers and dog haters.

All have a right to be here. Even when they don't share your opinion.

blueskiesandforests · 07/12/2018 07:10

MakeAHouseAHome those children you hate are the only chance you have of a state pension. Unless dogs pay taxes. Perhaps yours does, being so important and all.
