To think shops should be open longer Sundays

We aren't a religious country, churches are empty and it would be great to do the weekly shop at 6-7pm on a Sunday when the children are in bed.

Dragging them around busy shops during the day would give me more family time.

Scotland manages just fine, people up there find it bizzare the government forces shops here to close.

YANBU- retail workers don’t work 12 hours 7 days a week, you work normal hours on shifts. And many retail workers find the ‘odd’ hours fit around hobbies or family or other things. I used to work every other weekend and loved having a couple of days off in the week.

retail workers who go in on Boxing Day end up doing it to pay for the cab fare to and from work. Because there are no buses in a lot of places

and yet while shop workers and hospitality workers are told its a normal working day cab drivers are allowed to charge double time.

My son in law works in retail. They are not allowed to take holiday between November and January, usually has only Christmas Day off over the Christmas period. He rarely gets a weekend or indeed 2 days together off. I think this fairly common throughout retail. Shops are open 7 days a week. Isn’t this enough?

No thanks I want time with my family and enjoy a Sunday evening as I work all weekend in retail. The stores are open all week early till late and open every single day. Also online deliveries at times to suit you.
So no give us in retail a break

My church isn't empty...you are generalising somewhat. Leave Sunday hours as they are, it is meant to be a day of rest

Completely ridiculous and outdated. And isn't it down to the SNP voting against it last time?

I live in scotland and was really surprised when visiting england and northern ireland to discover the limited hours on a sunday. Esp how in belfast they let you in the shop early and you all queue at the checkout but they dont sell you anything until the exact time!

I know loads of people who work in supermarkets who enjoy the weird hours as they are working around a partner/ family etc. I often get my shopping at aldi on a sunday night while my son is at gymnastics- shop
Closes at 8pm.
