I've just watched Marley & me for about the 10th time and it still makes me cry even though I know most of the dialogue by now! It got me thinking about how certain films and lines stay close to your heart for different reasons... this films always reminds me of my childhood dog who we had for 12 years, his name was Shep and we loved him dearly... everyday there he would be waiting for us when we got off the school bus wagging his tail to greet us, even when he got old and weary we could rely on him to be there waiting in his usual place in rain, hail or snow! He really was a part of the family. Anyway my favourite lines from this film are "A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his".

Bike It reminds me of all the weddings I used to go to and I was pining for a particularly unobtainable person. Then I was placed next to now DH at a wedding reception and the rest is history (31 years and counting)

I like to do something special on Saturday nights.... Gregory’s Girl.

That’s my boat. Forest Gump

..... and I was never here. The Hunt for Red October.

‘You sit on a throne of lies!’

Elf

RaiderOfTheKitchenCupboard · 04/12/2018 19:19

“Always play with their minds”

Or pretty much anything else Lucas says in Empire Records.

BikeRunSki · 04/12/2018 19:37

Pleasantly surprised by the number of Gregory’s Girl quotes on here.

derxa · 04/12/2018 21:14

I love Gregory's Girl. Especially the scene where Gregory's dad nearly runs him over and the dad says something like I'll meet you at 8 o'clock in the kitchen. Dialogue so funny with genuine Scottish accents. Clare Grogan was well known to some of my Glasgow Univ contemporaries... the Notre Dame crowd. A bit of a cow by all accounts....

Whatjusthappenedthere · 04/12/2018 22:03

Loved Gregory’s girl so much . The film of my teenage years. And yes , the scene with his Dad nearly running him over is classic. Then he zig zags across the all weather pitch pretending not to be late. 😂

RunningFeisty · 04/12/2018 22:04

Loads of lines from shrek. Specially "Trust me, Donkey, if it was me, you'd be DEAD"

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 04/12/2018 22:08

" How's that for a slice of fried gold"

I'm not A big fat panda, I'm THE big fat panda!

Avegemitesandwich · 04/12/2018 22:27

In Silver Linings Play book where Jennifer Lawrence's character tells Bradley Coopers that he was 'cool, basically' and he goes 'basically? Was I some percentage not cool'? Me and DH think it's hilarious for some reason!

Also 'toodleloo muthafuckaaaaaaaaaa' from The Hangover - have rewound it to watch so many times!

BusyMum47 · 04/12/2018 22:31

50 bucks, grandpa...for 75, the wife can watch! (Pretty Woman) 😂

LoveManyTrustfew · 04/12/2018 22:32

Dave Kujan: Do you believe in him, Verbal?

Verbal: Keaton always said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him." Well I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Keyser Soze.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone.

SleightOfMind · 04/12/2018 22:38

‘We’re gonna need a bigger boat’

Used weekly in these parts

We don't serve hippies
Well that's ok cause we don't eat em

The Rose

ConstantlyCooking · 04/12/2018 22:41

'Life's not fair. Some of us are born to be king and some of us will be eaten' paraphrased but from Lion King. I think of it whenever children at school complain ' it's not fair '.

“There must be something between us, even if it's only an ocean.”

‘Say you’ll share with me one love one life time, lead me, save me from my solitude, say you’ll want me with you, here beside you, anywhere you go let me go too, Christine that’s all I ask of you!’

‘Past the point of no return, no backward glances, the bridge is crossed so stand and watch it burn, were passed the point of no return’

‘Masquerade, paper faces on parade, masquerade, hide your face so the world will never find you’

‘Why so silent good messeuirs, I have written you an opera, here I have the finished score, Don Juan Triumphant!’

‘Christine, I love you’

Waaaah she should have chosen the phantom Sad

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 04/12/2018 22:55

Oh and

‘God give me courage to show you you are not alone’ as she skips the ring on and kisses him, gets me every time

waterlego6064 · 04/12/2018 22:57

Blondie, I love that film- so many dozens of brilliant quotes. Just the best, most original dialogue of any film I’ve seen!

I love the whole exchange where your quote is from.

‘Please...I don’t feel well’

‘That wouldn’t wash with Jeff.

‘I’m gonna pull your head off, ‘cause I don’t like your head’

waterlego6064 · 04/12/2018 22:58

I am sitting here wheezing now. Apologies to anyone who hasn’t seen/doesn’t like Withnail.

WhoWants2Know · 04/12/2018 23:01

When someone asks you if you are a god, YOU SAY YES! (Ghostbusters)

And

I'm not even supposed to be here today! (Clerks)

Riddo · 04/12/2018 23:03

@Annandale I recognise the Tootsie quotes, it's a fantastic film. 🙂

Carlyrichards · 04/12/2018 23:05

"Colonel Jessop, did you or did you not order the code red?

YOU'RE GODDAMN RIGHT I DID"

Brilliant

"Those aren't pillows!"

Planes, trains and automobiles.
