My son and a mate have gone to park to play. Great. They'll be gone another 1/2hr or so. They're the age where they're allowed out together alone but not complete free reign (late primary age).

Txt from mate's mum to say they've gone to town and can I mind their son until they get back because he doesn't have a key.

WTF? I was waiting for my son to get back so we could go out on our bikes. I'm clock watching cos we need to back for plans later this afternoon which I can't do on bikes because it will be getting dark.

You don't just go out and THEN ask someone to mind your kid, unless it's an emergency.

Shall I reply and say "actually, I was planning on going out with DS at midday".

Yes. You have plans, her’s don’t trump yours.

gonzo77 · 02/12/2018 11:29

Absolutely reply with that.

SharedLife · 02/12/2018 11:30

I'd just say you can't, no need to give a reason why.

AwkwardSquad · 02/12/2018 11:30

‘No, I can’t do that, we have plans. You’ll have to come back for him.’

Ecofluffynanny · 02/12/2018 11:30

Exactly that! Just say no, sorry we are going out ourselves so please come and pick your son up by 12 latest!

How incredibly rude of this woman!

Hwory · 02/12/2018 11:31

Yes tell her you have plans so you can’t watcch her son.

What a CF.

CottonTailRabbit · 02/12/2018 11:31

No, sorry, we are going out ourselves.

LuluBellaBlue · 02/12/2018 11:31

Agree with above ^
CF!

Ecofluffynanny · 02/12/2018 11:31

I'm really cross on your behalf OP 😮

Birdsgottafly · 02/12/2018 11:31

Yep, if you have plans say so. She can get back, if it's just to pick up a present etc, then she doesn't need that long.

TechnicalSergeantGarp · 02/12/2018 11:32

'No'.

UpstartCrow · 02/12/2018 11:32

Just text 'no that doesn't work for me, come and pick him up'. You don't have to explain yourself.
You know she's a CF now so in future assume she actually wants something from you and more than she's asking.

CaptainHammer · 02/12/2018 11:32

Text but make it more definite something like “No sorry you’ll have to come back as we have plans that can’t be changed”

HollowTalk · 02/12/2018 11:33

Cheeky woman! Say no, otherwise she'll feel free to do this all the time.

TheOrigBrave · 02/12/2018 11:34

Thing is I spoke to her earlier and said we were going out on bikes.
I have txt her back.
She is actually very sweet, not sure what's got into her.

Grace789 · 02/12/2018 11:38

I hope she comes to collect him. What a cf! And she knew you had plans

Sexnotgender · 02/12/2018 11:47

Just be straight and tell her that doesn't work as you also have plans.

nomas · 02/12/2018 11:52

Has she responded? YANBU.

Ncwithparent · 02/12/2018 11:53

You’ll have to come back and get him we are going out at 12.

Cheeky fucker indeed.

FollowYourOwnNorthStar · 02/12/2018 11:56

What did she reply OP?

Mamawingingit1234 · 02/12/2018 12:00

Just place marking in case this turn epic

Alfie190 · 02/12/2018 12:01

I don't think I would be furious per se, but I would be gobsmacked at the cheek of it!

moofolk · 02/12/2018 12:03

wow. CF. Also: he needs looking after because he hasn't got a key, not because he's 10 and his parents are out. wtf?
