WIBU to head to walk-in centre for a headache?

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 19:43

I've had a headache for two days. Had a bit of a fever yesterday but it's normal now. My head is killing me. It's hard to even type this now.

I'm in a lot of pain and starting to feel quite nauseous.

WIBU to go to walk in (partially also because ibuprofen and paracetamol aren't working and I'm unsure of what I can take whilst breast feeding)? Or would I be wasting their time?

The main reason I worry is because I NEVER get headaches...

I’d go. There are headaches and headaches and it’s not something you usually suffer from and over the counter painkillers aren’t touching it. Hope you get sorted soon. Sounds horrible.

Squidgee · 01/12/2018 19:46

you should go, if its lasted that long and painkillers aren't helping, its best to get it checked over!

ernjas · 01/12/2018 19:48

I'd say go!

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 19:50

I should've gone today but I'm on my own at home with a 5 week old and don't feel safe to drive with this bloody headache. Hopefully it'll be gone tomorrow but it feels like it's getting worse... I never know whether it's the right thing to go to the docs as so many people mention how their time is often wasted.

Hi hun. You probably suffering from a migraine and they happen to last a few days sometimes u feel worse before you feel better. I suffer from terrible migraines the only thing that helps me is migraleve u can get it from the pharmacy it has paracetamol codeine and buclizine which is suppose help with nausea. It's actually quite effective and sometimes even doctors prescribe it for you. It only has a small dose of codeine in it so it should be safe in terms of breastfeeding. But you could always ask the pharmacist just to be on the safe side. Sending big hugs your way xxxxx

BonnieandHyde · 01/12/2018 19:53

Go now. Get a taxi. A headache is not always just a headache. Especially 5 weeks post partum. It could be a clot, it could be a bleed, it could be anything. Go.

ernjas · 01/12/2018 19:54

I'd at least call the walk in centre for advice, if not, get a taxi and go up to be seen.

superram · 01/12/2018 19:56

My dad had a headache, it was a slow brain haemorrhage. He survived-don’t take the risk-it’s obviously not just a headache or you wouldn’t be posting.

WendyWarthog · 01/12/2018 19:56

Definitely go. Please.

Serious and random headaches should never be ignored.

RayRayBidet · 01/12/2018 19:56

Could it be sinusitis? That gives you a bastard of a headache.

Gunpowder · 01/12/2018 19:57

Absolutely go to OOH if you have a severe headache and it isn’t normal for you. Especially post partum.

Quartz2208 · 01/12/2018 19:57

Any headache you cannot do things through (such as type) and is getting worse needs to be looked at (particularly alongside a fever)

You need to go

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 01/12/2018 19:58

I would ring them and see what they say, but if it's that bad you should go. This might sound like a silly question but are you drinking enough? I was like this for a few days when dd was a few weeks old and I was breastfeeding. I wasn't drinking enough water and was dehydrated. I know your world revolves around your baby right now but you do need to take care of yourself too Flowers

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 19:58

The only thing That makes me worry slightly less is the fact I had a fever yesterday and now it's gone. Indicating that maybe I just had a viral infection?

I'll go to walk in in the morning if needs be!

OP posts:
BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 19:59

Definitely drinking enough water

Definitely go, get a taxi & then you don't need to worry about driving.

Put some vick or olbas oil in a bowl of hot water & breathe it in through your nose with a towel over your head. Will help with the nausea & the pain.

AlwaysQuestionning · 01/12/2018 20:04

I had a pulmonary embolism with an 8 week old baby just came with me. I thought it couldn’t be anything too serious (feeling like I had a knife in my back and barely being unable to breathe didn’t worry me too much at the time it just hurt, a lot) get checked.

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 20:04

Oh blimey @AlwaysQuestionning - you poor thing!

Bananacentral · 01/12/2018 20:06

It’s more suitable for your GP rather than walk in if you are going to wait til tomorrow.
As a PP said it’s likely to be a migraine from what your describing so try not to panic. Keep up with pain relief and call GP in morning if no changes overnight.

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 20:07

I would but my GP isn't open on a Sunday @Bananacentral so it'll have to be walk in :(

I had a headache that lasted four days and 111 sent an ambulance out. Headaches can be a sign of something serious. Go.

Greekcatslovesouvlaki · 01/12/2018 20:09

I would (and have recently) if it is very severe and over the punter painkillers aren't touching it. They gave me coideine and I was able to sleep almost immediate, huge relief.

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 20:10

I have codeine and I'm looking at it like candy I'm not allowed!

Spam88 · 01/12/2018 20:10

Another vote for get seen. It's obviously not normal for you.

Just picking up on a previous post - codeine is not safe to use whilst breastfeeding.

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 20:11

@Spam88 which I'm very sad about!
