WIBU to head to walk-in centre for a headache?

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 19:43

I've had a headache for two days. Had a bit of a fever yesterday but it's normal now. My head is killing me. It's hard to even type this now.

I'm in a lot of pain and starting to feel quite nauseous.

WIBU to go to walk in (partially also because ibuprofen and paracetamol aren't working and I'm unsure of what I can take whilst breast feeding)? Or would I be wasting their time?

The main reason I worry is because I NEVER get headaches...

Please go get checked to be on the safe side

christmaschristmaschristmas · 01/12/2018 20:43

Definitely go. You hopefully just need some codeine or something.

Frouby · 01/12/2018 20:48

Definetly get checked OP. I woupd phone 111 and explain. They will possibly be able to send patient transport for you, and have a pre booked appointment. Even if it is 'just' a migraine they will be able to advise you on dafe bfing meds and prescribe you something suitable.

cheesywotnots · 01/12/2018 20:55

Why did you have a lumbar puncture, I think you should at least call 111 if this is not usual and the pain is really bad.

mygrandchildrenrock · 01/12/2018 20:56

My 18 yr old DD has just started to get migraines and we went to a walk in centre last Sunday. This was after seeing a GP on Friday, but the medication he gave didn't help at all.
The Doctor at the walk in centre gave my DD an injection which really helped with the headache and feeling nauseous.
We saw our GP again on Wednesday and he gave a different prescription and said if it doesn't work on her next migraine go back to the walk in centre because they can give the injection, whereas the GP can't.
So, I would go and get yourself checked out!

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 20:58

@cheesywotnots I had a suspected burst blood vessel. I was using the leg press in the gym and passed out and woke up with a cracking headache.

This was 10 years ago and turns out I didn't actually burst a blood vessel. Just a weird pressure type headache!

I had a headache like this once, with a fever and it was viral meningitis. I was properly poorly for a few weeks. I'm prone to migraines and knew it wasn't that. Im not saying this is the same for you but the advice that you shouldn't get it checked out could be wrong! How can anyone say 'it's just a migraine' without doing a full examination!

U2HasTheEdge · 01/12/2018 21:03

You should call 111 for sure. It needs checking out and the sooner the better. This is unusual for you, pain killers aren't helping and you have recently had a baby. Please don't leave it Thanks

BonnieandHyde · 01/12/2018 21:11

Op please stop being a wally and get off MN and just go and get yourself checked out tonight. Your BP or something could be through the roof for all you know.

Caprisunorange · 01/12/2018 21:12

And take your phone and charger you’ll be there for hours

missionofmercy · 01/12/2018 21:13

Very sad state of affairs that people have to ask on an anonymous forum whether or not to look after their own emergency. I despair, but I acknowledge that some really are looking for a signpost too.

A severe headache that does not go away with pain relief is something to be checked out for sure. Migraine sufferers know the score because they know the drill awful as it is, but those who have never suffered from migraine (and it sounds very grim) will know when their headache is not normal.

So after all this talk of not going to A+E who actually goes now? Oh yes, those who are still alive after triage and treatment.

Honestly.

Fluffy40 · 01/12/2018 21:13

Sometimes I get a bad headache before a cold.

MrMeSeeks · 01/12/2018 21:14

I’d go.i had severe headache for 3 days and it was a severe contagious virus that was going around.
I was out of it for a week and the only memory i have was sitting in the doctors. Rest of the week is a blur.

Starlight456 · 01/12/2018 21:16

Op- shall I go to ooh
Majority of mn- yes
Op- ok I won’t

MrMeSeeks · 01/12/2018 21:17

If it’s a migraine you can buy otc imigran ( actual migraine medication) however if you’re on the pill some pharamacies won’t sell it you.
You can also take co-codamol to help with the pain.

Quartz2208 · 01/12/2018 21:19

there are bad headaches and headaches which prevent you doing stuff and concentrating - the latter should always be checked

AntMoon · 01/12/2018 21:23

Not to be scary but my step brother had a bad headache, doesn't normally ever get them, and his turned out to be a bleed on the brain.

He didn't get to hospital for two days & ended up presenting like a stroke victim. Luckily his partner is a nurse and rushed him to A&E - he's fine now - but yeah, get seen!

The risk isn't worth it if this is something out the ordinary for you.

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 21:24

@Starlight456 where have I said I'm not going to contact OOH?

BabySham4U · 01/12/2018 21:26

111 must be busy, I'm on hold!

MrsMartinRohde · 01/12/2018 21:28

Go. This was me when DS2 was three months old. I thought I was just exhausted from bf and dealing with him and DS1. I went and it was viral meningitis. You know what's normal for you and what's not. Better safe than sorry.

cheesywotnots · 01/12/2018 21:31

Yes they do get busy, hope you feel better soon, update us if you want to.

RedLife · 01/12/2018 21:36

Haha original! 😁

Beeziekn33ze · 01/12/2018 21:44

There are now 2 threads with OPs with serious concerns about headaches. Both are getting all kinds of contradictory advice, especially about bf and taking painkillers.
Just hoping they both get professional advice soon.

Bluerussian · 01/12/2018 21:45

Co-codamol.

cheesywotnots · 01/12/2018 21:55

3 x 300mg aspirin in a fizzy drink????????, seriously some of the advice given is irresponsible to say the least.
