To banish cat from the house?

At night.

Have rehomed the bloody thing in the garage.

We haven't had a litter tray indoors for over a year. Had an outside one for a while which she didn't use so I removed it. For the last few weeks, when it's been wet outside, she has been shitting in her bed. Two mornings in a row now I've come down to it.

I don't want an indoor tray again so have locked her in the garage with tray and food where she will go every night over the winter from now on.

DC think IABU but they're not cleaning up the shit and having to do two boil washes, one for bed, one to clean machine!

YABVU and cruel and shouldn’t have pets

Please rehome your cat away so she can have an owner who will provide for her most basic needs such as warmth and a litter tray

Notevenmyrealname · 30/11/2018 10:30

The OP has said it is in the garage with a litter tray and food so I’m not sure why it’s cruel providing it’s not too cold. She said the cat stopped using the litter tray inside by itself which is why she stopped providing it. Plus it’s only overnight, not permanently locked away. Cats aren’t pack animals like dogs and are quite happy on their own for periods of time.

Nesssie · 30/11/2018 10:33

Notevenmyrealname - the fact is, she banished the cat because she locked a cat inside overnight with no litter tray, then was angry it shit inside?!

HidingFromMyKids · 30/11/2018 10:34

So you took the litter tray away because you don't want to deal with that.

Do you live near me because it's funny that I have to deal with the five cat shits in my garden right now but I can't as I'm pregnant.
Out of sight out of mind how nice for you.

eggstoast · 30/11/2018 10:34

I don’t eat animals either and I think you are cruel.

stopeatingthatpls · 30/11/2018 10:35

If you’re having to clean her bed everyday wouldn’t it make more sense to just get her another tray and instead of washing the bed, emptying the tray every day so it doesn’t start smelling? Hmm

Claw001 · 30/11/2018 10:36

Locking a cat in a garage, with no way out, possibly no even a window, nothing to amuse itself is mean!

craftinglife · 30/11/2018 10:37

I was the cats bowls before each feed anyway..

RaspberryRipple1963 · 30/11/2018 10:40

Give the cat to someone who'll love and care for her properly.

explodingkitten · 30/11/2018 10:40

Since almost everyone here disagrees with you maybe you should start listening and thinking. You're not perfect as a person so you can be in the wrong you know.

Notevenmyrealname · 30/11/2018 10:40

Nesssie fair enough. I’m reading that people are upset with the concept of putting the cat in the garage in the first place which I don’t think is bad in itself if she’s providing warmth and food. I suppose though it’s more about the lack of tolerance of the fact that it’s been caught short a few times. With pets and children you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Claw001 · 30/11/2018 10:41

OP has already stated her cat ‘yowls’ at the door in the house, to get out. Why would it be any different in the garage? at night/early morning when outdoor cats are usually at their most active.

OP is locking itin the garage because it’s an inconvenience. Poor cat.

Skyejuly · 30/11/2018 10:43

I have a litter tray in house for night times. It's not unhygienic as we just clean it in the mornings? No big deal?

Where are you? CAN I remove your cat?

Skyejuly · 30/11/2018 10:44

Rehome*

explodingkitten · 30/11/2018 10:44

I know that we all are brought up that animals who have fur don't get cold but it's not always true as it really depends on the kind of animal. Cats originate from africa and prefer temperatures of above room temperature. That is why they seek out the warmer places in the house. My chinchilla however likes it cool and would happily live in the fridge if I let him. Please stop thinking that your cat feels warm enough in the garage, he really doesn't.

FeckingEll · 30/11/2018 10:49

staffiegirl I'm afraid you're much crueler than me keeping your 'housecats' imprisoned Hmm and you have the nerve to call me delusional Grin.

Cat stopped using tray which is why I removed it, about 18 months ago. Outside tray was to encourage her to crap on our property not anyone else's. On nights she was indoors, no accidents until now. Not concerned that she's unwell at all. Shitless night last night proves it.

I still have to deal with a tray in the garage if she uses it, so locking her in the garage doesn't mean I don't have toConfused. Better there than in house.

Never had a cat flap (she's our 3rd cat). Not necessary and don't want her prey brought in as a present. Have several areas she can shelter from rain in in garden.

Stand by my animal waters comment!

crispysausagerolls · 30/11/2018 10:50

I don’t know anything about cats so can’t speak for that but WHY ask if YABU if you aren’t going to fucking listen when 99% of posters say you are?!

FeckingEll · 30/11/2018 10:52

Stand by my animal eaters comment.

Why should I do what conveniences me Claw. Cat needs to be in in winter. Stupid thing can't check the weather forecast to see if there's going to be overnight frosts. She can yowl at garage door instead of kitchen one.

Claw001 · 30/11/2018 10:53

Shitless night last night proves it proves what exactly? You locked her in the garage last night and she just happened to have not needed a shit in the night!

SpadesOfGlory · 30/11/2018 10:55

I'm really confused by a lot of these comments. I grew up with cats that lived purely outdoors, made themselves cosy nests to sleep in in the hedge, and lived to a grand old age in the country and were never ill. How is that cruel if they were perfectly happy and in good health?

My own cat now roams outside all day and comes home and sleeps inside during the night, but I wouldn't feel at all bad if he was in the garage overnight, as long as he had a cosy bed, food and water and either a cat flap or litter tray. We have a covered tray inside but he hasn't used it in weeks.

Our cat seems perfectly happy to roll around in the snow for hours at a time too so I don't think they entirely feel the cold the same as us. They have a fur coat permanently on!

OP, if your cat has a cosy bed and litter tray and some food I don't see the problem Smile however I don't think it's fair to take a litter tray away from a cat who has no other option of where to toilet (like if you don't have a cat flap). Some cats can't hold it.

empmalswa · 30/11/2018 10:55

Another 2 responses which totally ignore the questionable health of your cat.

cheesywotnots · 30/11/2018 10:55

Have you got anything nice to say about your cat, every word you use about her suggests she is just a nuisance and you don't really like her.

empmalswa · 30/11/2018 10:57

Because this cat has lives indoors and been kicked into the garage for shitting inside, despite not being provided with the very basic litter tray.

Nobody is saying cats can't live outside, but look at the bigger picture. This cat has lived indoors and has been removed suddenly.
