Examples of almost exactly what mine and DHs hair looks like... (sorry, can't post photos as I'm new to mn!)

Our baby is 5 weeks old with ZERO hair.

AIBU to be super curious re what our son's hair will be like?!

Me and DH are polar opposites looks wise.

What are your guesses? (Just for fun...)

My nieces' parents have afro and blonde hair. The eldest has dark brown afro hair, the youngest has blonde afro hair. Both are utterly beautiful - they both modelled as small children!

Londonlife85 · 29/11/2018 10:43

Honestly, he could have blonde hair or black hair. With any type of curl pattern.

Shednik · 29/11/2018 10:45

I know a family with three children and parental hair like yours.

DC1 - dark brown curls
DC2 - straight blonde hair
DC3 - blonde afro

Brainfogmcfogface · 29/11/2018 10:46

I’m blonde and daughters dad has Afro tight curly/corse hair, daughter is 3b hair type, less corse then her dads but has coily curls, I’m obsessed with it, she also has natural gold tone highlights, and in the summer her hair colour literally glistens.

SylviaAndSidney · 29/11/2018 10:48

My friend’s son has a blonde-ish Afro. Looks really good.

6weeks7 · 29/11/2018 10:48

I'm not hoping for anything in particular (though looser curls would be a godsend for maintenance 🙏🏽). Just so curious. Genetics are really fascinating. My mum has dead straight hair and my dad very tight Afro coils. Me and my brothers all have hair like in the photo.

No-one can say for sure! I'm black with 4C hair and DH is white with blonde hair and DD has wavy brown hair.

BerriTerri · 29/11/2018 10:49

Even in the same family you can get huge variations. My friends have 5, he’s fair haired Scottish and she is from Trinidad originally with black hair and a fairly tight curl. 3 have looser dark brown curls, though one has a more typically European fine texture , one has black hair with a tight curl and the fifth is a carbon copy of his father in every way without any physical characteristics obvious from his mum.

Personally I have five blonde children, which is pretty amazing as I have black hair and dh mid-brown.

Tighnabruaich · 29/11/2018 10:51

The genetic lottery! I love your hair. Having poker-straight hair I've always wanted corkscrew curls.

brizzledrizzle · 29/11/2018 10:57

you could get almost any combination of hair colours to be honest.
A brother and sister I know are polar opposites - blonde, blue eyed typical Scandinavian colouring and dark black hair with very dark skin from an Indian mother and Norwegian father.

Have a look at these pictures - some of the children are twins.

Oh, I'd be eagerly anticipating what they'd have too!

I have poker straight mid brown hair, dark brown eyes. Dh has almost black hair that will curl past a certain length & hazel eyes. Dc 1, 2 & 3 have varying shades of hair & eyes between what dh & I have. Dc4 was born with white blonde hair & is still very blonde now (although no longer white blonde) with green/grey/blue eyes, they change colour with the weather & how he's feeling. Dc5 has brown hair but with lots of red in it & brown eyes. I find it all fascinating.

fadehead · 29/11/2018 10:59

Genetics is fascinating! You’ll have to report back when his hair grows. Mine lot are a mix! One straight blonde (like me) and pale but golden skin tone, one brown hair olive skin (like a mix between my looks, and my Dad’s skin colour) and one bright (and I mean bright!) ginger and milkbottle skin. His dad was ginger as a child but he’s got dark hair now and more auburn/olive skin tone. He looks more like his dad but has my family ginger/white skin tone. They’re an eclectic mix!

Jeanclaudejackety · 29/11/2018 11:00

Olive skin straight chestnut brown hair
Paler skin wavy mousy brown hair
Paler skin blondish brown afro

Those would be what I'd expect going off multiracial and mixed race kids in my family

6weeks7 · 29/11/2018 11:00

@Tighnabruaich ah, thank you! Though I can't say I've always embraced my natural hair (its usually in braids to save time in the mornings!). Really kind of you to say :) I'm sure you have lovely hair!

It's all so interesting. I'm very impatient... how long does baby hair take to grow?!

OP posts:
BerriTerri · 29/11/2018 11:05

Just to warn you, even when it grows it can change! Two of mine started with black curls, lost it and grew fine blonde stuff around 11 months!

BettyCrook · 29/11/2018 11:06

im guessing it will be blond if he doesnt have hair by now.
and a degree of curl or afro as pp said.

BettyCrook · 29/11/2018 11:06

mine were born with hair. dark blonde straight hair.

Tighnabruaich · 29/11/2018 11:07

And sometimes genes from a few generations back will make a surprise appearance, it's so fascinating.

ScrambledSmegs · 29/11/2018 11:09

My eldest was pretty much bald until she was 1 - you might have a long wait!

6weeks7 · 29/11/2018 11:09

@BettyCrook can you explain the logic behind that? So if he was born with dark hair you'd think differently? Really interesting...

OP posts:
6weeks7 · 29/11/2018 11:09

@ScrambledSmegs I was bald until I was 18 months... I hope he doesn't take after me!

OP posts:
whatsthepointthen · 29/11/2018 11:11

my 18m old is still pretty much bald

Spanglybangles · 29/11/2018 11:15

OH and I are pretty much same as your photos in hair and colouring. Our DD has dark blonde curls looser than mine and straightens very easily so she can have the best of both worlds, also has same colouring and features of her dad. Our DS has dark brown hair with a loose curl and has my features with slightly lighter skin than me. If you saw them together you’d never think they were related.

Spanglybangles · 29/11/2018 11:17

DD was also virtually bald for about 6 months then the blonde came through straight for a bit before turning into a tight curl then to a looser curl as she got older. DS was born with a good head of dark straight hair that slowly developed the curl he has now.
