Can anyone help? I'd quite like a constant stream of Graham Norton, Loose Women and TED talks with a touch of magic fm. Can anyone recommend anything?

AngelsSins · 28/11/2018 15:25

Dirty John - really good true crime podcast
Drunk Women Solving Crime - fairly new so not lots of episodes but a mix of comedy and true crime
My Dad Wrote a Porno - very funny
Standard Issue - the live episodes are good with some great guests
I, Survivor - stories from survivors of all different kinds of incidents

AngelsSins · 28/11/2018 15:27

Oh and The Teachers Pet - true crime and be prepared to get angry when you listen!

yaela123 · 28/11/2018 16:32

For comedy/feminism, I have been slightly addicted to the Guilty Feminist

KiplingAngelCake · 28/11/2018 16:49

Thanks for tip about Podcasts section!
I'm a fan of The Emma Guns Show, Table Manners, Love Stories with Dolly Alderton and the Food Medic.

This is all so helpful. Thank you all so much.

Another one for guilty feminist! Loving it

SilverySurfer · 28/11/2018 18:04

AromaticSpices
It's audio only Silvery, so you just listen to it. You can have it playing as you would with music - can close/lock phone and it will continue playing unless you stop it using the screen or your headphones.

Thanks for explaining. The more I read about this stuff, the more antediluvian I feel Smile

goforkyourself · 28/11/2018 18:06

Dirty John has been made into a series on Bravo! Starring Eric Bana and the wonderful Connie Britton.

ggirl · 28/11/2018 18:07

Fortunately - BBC R4 Fi Glover and Jane Garvey talking --is brilliant
File on 4 -R4 again

Nothisispatrick · 28/11/2018 18:08

I only really listen to casefile and my favourite murder. I’ve tried others but never committed! I did like serial and s town, but haven’t listened to series 3 yet . I generally prefer single episode true crime, rather than episodic or investigative.

merrymouse · 28/11/2018 18:09

Slow Burn - series 1 is on Nixon series 2 on Clinton impeachment - good to get some perspective on current US news stories

Radio 4 - I listen to the Friday night comedy podcast and More or Less: Behind the Stats

Sawbones - a marital tour of misguided medicine - comedy/medical history

Happier with Gretchen Rubin - two sisters chat about strategies for being happier.

By the Book - Comedy - two friends follow the advice in a self help book for two weeks and report back.

bridgetreilly · 28/11/2018 18:15

Fortunately with Fi and Jane!

OhioOhioOhio · 28/11/2018 19:16

So if you want Alexa to play a podcast you just say the title of the podcast?

Getting Curious - Jonathan Van Ness. He is one of the guys from Queer Eye. Funny and informative. He interviews some interesting people.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 28/11/2018 20:23

99% invisible is great , really listenable. Based on architecture and design but it's so much more than that.

This American life - can be hit and miss but the recent episode on school shootings was brilliant, if harrowing.

Griefcast with Cariad Lloyd is a sensitive discussion of loss which chats about so much more.

I really like the Adam Buxton podcast - he can err towards sycophancy a bit but when he doesn't - recent chat with Jayde Adams for example- it's just two people having a ramblechat.

Lore - earlier ones were brilliant, unfortunately Aaron is running out of source material now but he researched everything so well it draws you in.

RHLSTP is always a good listen : although I tend to FF through RH's initial 15 minute self aggrandising wankathon at the start and cut to the interview.

If you like Comedy, the Comedian's Comedian podcast with Stuart Goldsmith is very good. He talks in depth with comedians about their 'craft'. The ones with Jimmy Carr I found fascinating. I had him down for a bit of a twat and actually he came across as a thoughtful, switched on person.

Mister Gameshow with Mike Wozniak - Old but funny.

Ditto Alex Horne Breaks the News: if you like Taskmaster it's broadly similar.

Pappy's Flatshare Slamdown/ Do the Right thing are silly game show podcasts.

The Guilty Feminist and Standard Aussie - often thought provoking, if not radical, magazine format type pods with great guests.

I live a podcast, me!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 28/11/2018 20:24

Standard Issue, ffs fingers.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 28/11/2018 20:28

I love The Allusionist.
Random musing about language and words.

ApocalypseNowt · 28/11/2018 20:31

Small Town Murder and Crime in Sports - both true crime/comedy by 2 American guys. V funny (and you don't have to be into sports for Crime in Sports).

All Killa No Filla - 2 English woman (both stand ups), absolutely hilarious especially the episodes where they talk about dry bumming.

busybarbara · 28/11/2018 20:34

I'm up to date with Casefile and They Walk Among Us but am on the hunt for a new one.

Murdertown. It's by the same guy who does They Walk Among Us.

WeeBeasties · 28/11/2018 20:41

I haven't seen anyone reccommend Help I Sexted My Boss- it's a very funny agony aunt style podcast with two blokes, one a northern radio presenter and the other the UK's leading etiquette expert.

And I second By The Book and Sawbones. Both excellent.

Azure83 · 28/11/2018 20:46

Oooh, love this thread! I'm listening to lots that have been mentioned so just to add a couple that I don't think have been:

Kermode and Mayo's film review - so much more than movies once you get into it (and hello to Jason Isaacs)

The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter - in depth conversions with the biggest names in Hollywood, some fascinating insights into people's careers if cinema is your thing

Where Should we begin - Esther Perel, a brilliant therapist in real life recorded couples therapy sessions, truly fascinating

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 28/11/2018 20:53

Also love the Allusionist, Moth, This American Life mentioned above. If you're interested in US politics, the crooked media stable is very good. Behind the Bastards is also interesting, a deep dive into some pretty despicable world leaders/media personalities, current and historic. A lot of TV shows have good podcasts too, eg the west wing weekly, the good place, etc. And kermode and Mayo is aways good for dad wittering with some thrown in movie reviews.
