About fucking bin men

Completely blocking the street. All they had to do was move up to pass parked cars and let people pass. Asked them to move and got ‘we’ve got a job to do!’

Yes, because I was going nowhere Confused

OP you haven't listened to anything anyone has said, have you?

wanderings · 27/11/2018 08:30

There's a reason why the lorries have signs saying "abuse will not be tolerated". For the same reason, staff on the Underground carry "spit kits", which can collect the DNA of anyone who spits on them. I kid you not.

I'm with those who say that these days, we're lucky to have bin collections at all, especially those we don't pay extra for. I think it's only a matter of time before we have to take our own rubbish away, or pay for it to be collected.

Once upon a time, they would carry non-wheeled bins over their shoulders; they could load whole items of furniture into their lorries, which would mince them on the spot. I remember watching this happen! Nowadays, health and safety has put paid to all of that, with the micromanagement from behind a desk somewhere, by someone who has probably never been a bin man.

CatAndMice · 27/11/2018 08:31

Yanbu.

I had one lorry driver watch me get in the car, then pull across my drive. It then took 20 minutes for them to crawl down the road blocking the road all the way. I am sure it was done deliberately.

LakieLady · 27/11/2018 08:33

Oh and ten you’d be ok with being unable to leave your street for 10 minutes when you need to get to work? Sure? You wouldn’t be annoyed at all?

That's one reason I'd hate to live in a cul-de-sac.

You should live here OP, you'd have imploded with rage a few months ago. Our road was closed at one end for several weeks while new gas and water mains were put in. It's pretty narrow, only room for one vehicle to pass the parked cars, so a bugger for turning in. There were 2 houses having extensions built, so builders merchants and skip hire companies making frequent deliveries.

There were so many days when people couldn't get out for ages because of bin men, bricks being delivered or whatever, that we all learned to leave the house at least 20 minutes before we needed to, in case we had to wait to get out. And we developed a new-found admiration for the bin lorry driver, who managed to reverse his huge truck down our narrow road, with only inches to spare on each side, without ever clipping a parked car.

At least with the bin men, they come on the same day, at roughly the same time, evey week. Just leave a bit earlier on that day. The poor sods do an unpleasant job, so give them a break. Would you rather keep your rubbish at home for days and then take it to a disposal place in your car, like my friend in rural France has to?

Wheresthebeach · 27/11/2018 08:34

What I love on bin day is the idiots honking their horns in frustration. Because that will help.

People use our road as a rat run, and then become inflamed when it doesn't work.

Let them do their job in peace FFS - they can bounce around the road following every Tom, Dick and Harry's orders.

BoldComicSans · 27/11/2018 08:35

They work on time limits. They don't have time to check each empty bin and ensure its in the correct place. If they don't finish their round in time they don't get to go home and other crews have to drive over to finish the round.

Also, there is nothing wrong with shagging a bin man. If your in a relationship with them. Though it's actually the driver so no smell or dirt to speak of.

Nesssie · 27/11/2018 08:36

never mind the fact they seem to alternate between coming out at 6am and waking us all up Because that’s the time they have to work to get everyone’s bins done.. I’m sure you’d be the first to complain if they didn’t empty your bin..

WeirdCatLady · 27/11/2018 08:36

So you sat there for ten minutes waiting for them to move a few yards?? Really?? Hmm

Polidori · 27/11/2018 08:39

This thread has a scent of goading about it. OP isn't responding to what people say about safety and practicalities. Just calling people dicks and reiterating the "oh, you MNers" schtick.
OP, you share the planet with a few other people. Sometimes you'll be in their way. Sometimes they'll be in your way. Live with it. Or invent a teleporter.

Mildmanneredmum · 27/11/2018 08:39

My first boyfriend was a binman. Dave the binman

He wasn't smelly at all.

SnuggyBuggy · 27/11/2018 08:39

If they are coming at different times YANBU. That's really annoying

Claw001 · 27/11/2018 08:39

Is there only one way out of your street?

I get in my car, see bin men are to my left or right and go in the opposite direction!

TheChickenOfTruth · 27/11/2018 08:43

Our bin men are lovely, couldn't be more polite and helpful. Occasionally I have to wait a few minutes for them to move on, but that's the price I pay for the convenience of not having to drive to the dump with my rubbish every week.

Yay for bin men!

TroysMammy · 27/11/2018 08:43

I understand OP. I've seen bin men stop their wagon on the main road where there is a large space to pull in and let traffic pass.

They also used my garden as a collection point for bags. I soon stopped that as I hunted them down one morning and complained. They throw the recycling bins around and don't put them anywhere near the house they belong to. At one point I was sending emails to the Council every Thursday.

However when my car broke down on a busy road the other day they pushed it into a side street. I sent an email to the Council thanking them for that.

listsandbudgets · 27/11/2018 08:45

Am glad I'm not the only one who placed interesting connotations on the thread title.

I came on to say I expect you dh/dp would think you are being very unreasonable

I know it's frustrating OP but they do have a job to do. We get stuck behind them too. Irritating but not as bad as being over shelled with rubbish all over the streets

listsandbudgets · 27/11/2018 08:46

sorry overwhelmed not over shelled

BMW6 · 27/11/2018 08:47

Ten minutes isn't a long time to have to wait though!

PipGoesPop · 27/11/2018 08:47

Give over. It's once a week. We need their services.

Entitled much?

BertramKibbler · 27/11/2018 08:47

Because that’s the time they have to work to get everyone’s bins done.. I’m sure you’d be the first to complain if they didn’t empty your bin..

At least quote my whole sentence Hmm. Honestly, some people on here!!

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2018 08:49

YABU, just let them do their job.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2018 08:49

Budge up on the Smutty Bench...

They needed to move maybe 100 yards and they could still do their job.

That's actually a long way when they have to walk back and forth emptying and returning the bins.

It's bin day. It's not a surprise that there will be a bin lorry.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2018 08:50

As an aside, ours are always here at the same time every week. They have a set route and timing.

WitchesWeb · 27/11/2018 08:50

I usually don't have an issue waiting for them, but waiting 15 minutes the other day on a main road whilst traffic was then backing up elsewhere, in rush hour, was a bit much.

crochetmonkey74 · 27/11/2018 08:53

OP everyone on here will swear blind that this would never annoy them, and that bin men are next to Gods. I understand your pain - we have 2 different crews on our bins- one crew are nice and pull over and make sure we can all get past- the other crew won't do a thing to help us all get out to work-even though they easily could. we are also in a one way street so we can't go another way- it's frustrating!

ImpendingDisaster · 27/11/2018 08:53

Surely you can see that their job is far more important than your need to pass.

I can't even believe people like you exist. Are you joking?
