RANT lazy to for owning a dishwasher - MIL

After years of saving, we finally re-did our kitchen 3 months ago. It didnt come easy, we had saved for a long time and inherited the old one 20+ years ago with the house)

Really proud of ourselves, and the first time the ILs came round, MIL was making comments about the dishwasher, and how it is lazy to own one. (We had never had one in our lives, but SHE has, she had one in her last house before she moved last year). Every time she visits she makes at least one comment

Lazy? I work 50+ hours a week and DH often much more.

She has been round this morning (and is still here) and whilst FIL is talking about other stuff, she is using her visiting time to belittle me (not us) about owning a dishwasher again

I'm currently sitting in the bedroom because to be honest I dont know what her problem is - and it is the least interesting topic in the fucking world

I wish she would fuck off, as I have got stuff to do, ironing etc, but I cannot face this total bollocks once again

I’m sure you have bigger fish to fry than allowing a fruitless throwaway comment from your MIL affect you like this.

My MIL berated me for not having made my Christmas pudding myself during Christmas dinner (which I had made) last year. This despite having rocked up with a frozen shop bought gateau as her contribution to the meal.

Hypocrite!

I am lazy and I own a dishwasher. My house is clean though. I don't think anyone, on their deathbed, thought "I wish I'd spent more time cleaning". There's only so much time I give to it, that's why I have a dishwasher.

Life is too short!

Every time she says it holler "Hey, DH, your mother is calling you lazy for having a dishwasher." Then watch her backtrack.

Yes, this is being directed at you, not her son. Clearly saying you're the one being lazy.

Bunnymumma · 25/11/2018 19:09

Urgh! I'd say to her, in a jovial voice, "gosh, if I had a pound for every time you've mentioned the dishwasher, I could have been REALLY lazy and hired a maid!"

Upsy1981 · 25/11/2018 20:07

She is missing hers and is therefore making you feel bad. No idea why people do such things when they are jealous, but they do. Her issue, not yours. Think no more of it.

If I had to choose between the electrical items gracing my house, and one had to go, it wouldn’t be the dishwasher. I’d rather not have a telly or a computer. The kitchen white goods aren’t to be touched.

Your mother in law is turning into the green eyed monster. If she says anything again just walk away.
