Hygiene AIBU?

Hanspannerly · 23/11/2018 23:06

Cleaning up the kitchen tonight and dropped a tiny spot of banana on the floor. Had the dish sponge in my hand so bent and wiped it up. Sponge went straight into the sink with very hot water and washing up liquid. DH is appalled by my hygiene practices!! I don’t make a habit of wiping the floor unless with a mop but I steam cleaned the floor this morning so... AIBU?

If you're not up to it then dh should take over the housework.

Hanspannerly · 23/11/2018 23:11

Valid point!!

I just point the dog towards it.........Grin

WinterfellWench · 23/11/2018 23:15

That is a bit gross sorry.

Wiping the bit of banana off the floor with the washing up sponge, and then sticking the sponge back in the washing up bowl?! Confused

Grim.

You did ask.

hiddeneverythin · 23/11/2018 23:16

Wow. He's lucky there's only banana on the floor in your kitchen.,, YANBU

Maelstrop · 23/11/2018 23:18

Why not use kitchen roll? I wouldn't dream of using the washing up sponge, you've walked round there with outdoor shoes on,presumably?

garethsouthgatesmrs · 23/11/2018 23:18

agree with carpet OP you clearly know nothing about keeping a kitchen clean, best to defer to DH from now on.

He probably knows best about bathroom cleaning too so just to be on the safe side you should let him clean those too.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 23/11/2018 23:20

you've walked round there with outdoor shoes on,presumably?

why would you presume that? Dont most of us take our shoes off in our homes?

Celebelly · 23/11/2018 23:23

I wouldn't even think twice about this. Mind you, in our house the dog would have licked it up anyway so no need to wipe Grin

AnnieOH1 · 23/11/2018 23:23

I'm sorry but that is disgusting. Even more so if you have animals wandering round on the floor.

Tatgalore · 23/11/2018 23:24

I wouldn't wipe the floor with the washing up sponge and I think it's unhygienic to do so, sorry.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/11/2018 23:27

But the washing up sponge was washed straight after in hot soapy water by the sound of it?

I don’t see it as a massive problem. People wash knives and chopping boards that have had raw chicken and meat on all the time. Do you think it’a Disgusting to put the washing up sponge used for that back into the washing up bowl?

Hanspannerly · 23/11/2018 23:28

Curly- I made the exact same point re raw chicken!

babysharkah · 23/11/2018 23:29

I wouldn't use the washing up sponge but I have a dog so that may change my viewpoint.

user1471453601 · 23/11/2018 23:31

Another one who uses the dog. Call her in and she Hoover's like the best Dyson i could afford.

Jazzy25 · 23/11/2018 23:31

I’d do this without a seconds thought Grin

Aquamarine1029 · 23/11/2018 23:32

I take issue with using a sponge. They are absolutely disgusting and nothing but a breeding ground for bacteria and filth.

Rachelle3211 · 23/11/2018 23:33

I'm a clean freak and I wouldn't use the same sponge.

Hanspannerly · 23/11/2018 23:34

That’s true aqua - usually I would use the cloth which goes in the wash every night but I happened to have the sponge in my hand at the time

kaldefotter · 23/11/2018 23:37

Oh, that’s really bogging.

Gravel1 · 23/11/2018 23:38

you could eat off my floor

Hanspannerly · 23/11/2018 23:40

Maybe I’m massively in the wrong here. It’s interesing because I’m very clean generally. I clean the bathrooms multiple times a week, hoover daily and mop often. My DH is a coeliac so I have to be really careful with food contamination. I don’t think he’s ever got sick from a stray bread crumb or grain of flour in 13 years so I must be doing something right Confused

Junkmail · 23/11/2018 23:41

Nothing wrong it. We’re all far too sterile these days.

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 23/11/2018 23:41

It's the other way around with us. I have cloths JUST for worktops, other cloths for more mucky things like the cooker and then kitchen roll for the floor, and my husband will just grab the worktop cloth and use it for wiping the cooker Angry But if you had just cleaned the floor it was hardly a big deal to lose sleep over.
