I'm having a massive panic attack. Full-on chest pains, palpitations, hands shaking, diarrhoea, head pulsing, the lot.

Can someone just talk to me and distract me? I don't have anyone I can call on IRL and dh is at work. I know it's a panic attack and not something serious, I've had plenty before, but this is a bad one.

You will come through it shortly, 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can taste

smudgedlipstick · 23/11/2018 11:31

Just remember that I will be over soon, are you at home?

smudgedlipstick · 23/11/2018 11:31

'It' not I - I won't be over soon!

Greensleeves · 23/11/2018 11:32

I am at home. I'm doing the 5 thing you can touch etc now

I had one last night, so i feel your pain - if i hadn't been having loads of them recently i would have dialled 999.

I find that singing regulates my breathing but there's an embedded message at nopanic.com which is great for talking you back down.

Good luck!

Auldspinster · 23/11/2018 11:35

Oops it's www.nopanic.org.uk if you scroll down you'll get the crisis recording.

checkingforballoons · 23/11/2018 11:35

Well done for identifying it and reaching out. It will pass, just keep breathing x

Greensleeves · 23/11/2018 12:25

It's nt getting any better, arrrgh I hate this!

maxthemartian · 23/11/2018 12:34

Handhold for you.

Breathe through it. Breathe in a count of 4, hold another count of four, breathe out a count of 7.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 23/11/2018 12:39

Been there chicken. Tell yourself the worst that is going to happen is that you feel shitty for a while. That's it. No disaster. No apocalypse. Your body is having a physiological response. You're not dying. You feel horrible. It's ok. Keep breathing. If you haven't got it, download Headspace app and do it x

THEsonofaBITCH · 23/11/2018 12:43

As you are at home, do you have a favourite book that engages your mind completely? anything that distracts might be a good place to start. Hope it passes soonest for you!

maxthemartian · 23/11/2018 12:48

Could you stomach some chamomile tea?

Greensleeves · 23/11/2018 13:06

Much better now, breathing has evened out and I feel more like myself. Chamomile tea and MN :) thanks for the hand-hold Flowers

I don't have any tips sorry but I can send you sympathy as I'm currently experiencing one too.
I hadn't ever had one since the traumatic birth of my baby and this week has been horrendous.
Hope you come through it soon! They are vile!!!

EspressoPatronum · 23/11/2018 13:08

Glad you're feeling better op, panic attacks are the pits x

littlemisscomper · 23/11/2018 13:12

Poor you! I had one once a year or 2 back and I never want to go through it again! It must really stink if you suffer from them regularly. What triggered it? Have you spoken to your GP?

Dragongirl10 · 23/11/2018 13:12

Try a steady march on the spot , knees high, counting, one, two, one, two,
your brain will have to focuss, keep it up for 5 minutes, boring but calming, try to gradually get slower until you have to really concentrate on each leg.......remember it will pass op...

captainpantbeard · 23/11/2018 13:19

Glad you're feeling better. What is the 5 things you can touch trick?

notsohippychick · 23/11/2018 13:20

Hey there! I know I’m a bit late but wanted to see how you are? Panic attacks are bloody scary. You’ve done well to just go through it, wait it out. I always think I’m not gonna die from this so it’s all ok!

Pinkkittens292 · 23/11/2018 13:27

People who have never experienced one have no idea.
I get shouted at to "snap out of it" and "pull myself together" while experiencing the fear which is so intense it makes my whole body weak.
They are vile things and should never be under estimated.
Yes, they are harmless but the fear and all the accompanying physical symptoms are something else!

Rachelover40 · 23/11/2018 13:50

Bless you. I have the same. It does pass.

I hope by now yours have. x Flowers

NewMinouMinou · 23/11/2018 13:52

Are you alright now?

You got through. You took control. That’s one panic attack that you never have to have again.

NewMinouMinou · 23/11/2018 13:54

I don’t have panic attacks but I am an appallingly bad flier and it’s a real battle with myself each time. Every take off and landing is one that I never have to do again.

CrookedMe · 23/11/2018 14:12

I'm sure the thought of lmudgedlipstick turning up on your doorstep was an excellent distraction Grin
