Ridiculous asking prices for second hand stuff

Just wanting a rant really. So many times I see on FB people selling their old shit for ridiculous money.

Someone was selling a christmas jumper for £8. You can get them new for that!

Someone else selling 2 packs of straws for £1.50.

Another person was selling some disney books (really old, probably new when I was a kid in the 80's) and she wanted £10!!

Does anyone every buy this overpriced stuff?!

Wordthe tbf, the majority are normally fine, but I do get a bit suspect about sellers who are selling loads of the same brand new packaged toys quite cheap...

sorry, posted too soon, especially when it's the same sellers.

My favourite is when they say ‘must be gone today’ like you can order someone to buy something.

My BIL tried to sell my MILs ANCIENT sewing machine for £500 because ‘that’s what these things cost’. Eeerrr new?!?

My friend sold a wooden arm chair to her neighbour who really likes it. She bought it from an antique shop so it was worth something although not super fancy. A few months later he cut it up and used it for firewood!! She asked him why he didn’t just ask her I’d she wanted to buy it back and get money for fire wood that way! He said it was his chair and he could do what ever he wanted with it! Not really completely relevant to the topic but hilarious all the same x

Ive been watching something on Shpock for about 6 months. It's twice the price it should be because seller believes its collectible. I offered a really good price for it, declined. Explained to seller that this is what they fetch on eBay completed. Seller declined again.

Amuses me to see it being reduced bit by bit over the months and creeping nearer to where it should be. At some point I'll get DH to offer again 😂

My DM is one of these people. Years ago we held a joint car boot sale. I wanted rid of things cluttering my house, she HAD to sell up as was moving abroad.

She just wouldn't not move on price on her things. I remember her trying to sell a bad set of Daniel O,Donnel videos (yes it was a LONG time ago). She wanted £8 for them but was offered £5. She refused to sell them as 'your nana paid £12.99 for that!' I presume she ended up giving them to charity - I know she took a lot of things home that day 😂

Only just joined this site as I Googled
“ People who ask for too much money for their second hand stuff”& saw these comments......couldnt agree more!
I use FB to sell(& buy)but never ever ask for silly money.....its counter productive if no one buys it because youve overpriced it.
My view is, if you no longer want the item, sell it for what you can reasonably ask& get & be satisfied.

People are stupid for one.
There's a psychological thing called the 'endowment effect' where people overvalue things that they already own.

I've been selling some toys bought for my son but not his taste so literally never even removed from the box, just kept in a cupboard. Would have been £35 New and I asked for £13.

Guy messages me, he wants them. Asks where I am even though it says in the post. Tells me I'm an hour away from him but if I pay for his fuel to come and pick them up he'll pay £10 for them. Told him to jog on, I was already selling very cheap and not only did you want to pay less but you also wanted ME to pay for your fuel!!!!!! Cheeky sod
