The best does not = the most expensive.

princesstiasmum · 20/11/2018 20:52

No one should buy canada goose coats, do they know the cruelty involved in making these coats, the poor animals are subjected to terrible barbaric cruelty
I hope people know they are not geese

MrsJayy · 20/11/2018 20:56

Yeah it is a brand thing . My dd used to lose stuff early secondary school i would be having kittens if she lost a £600 jacket

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/11/2018 20:57

Each to their own, but personally I think spending that much on your kid's coat makes you look a bit desperate. No kid needs a coat like that for school; it's a pain in terms of them looking after it, it makes them a bit of a target and it teaches them a very poor lesson about the value of money. Do a bit of parenting and say no.

And no, I'm not envious; we are wealthy enough to afford it. We just choose to bring our kids up with different values.

I work in a deprived area and we have a lot of pupils with these coats.

And designer belts, bags.

The vast majority of our pupils receive free school meals due to low income so I have no clue how they afford these things. Maybe they are fake.

Buttercupsandaisies · 20/11/2018 21:01

Shredded where do you buy them?

DDs mates have love moschino and CKlein and she'd be happy with fake if I can find it!

Buttercupsandaisies · 20/11/2018 21:02

I think many but on holiday

MrsJayy · 20/11/2018 21:03

Tk maxx do moshino and calvein klien but you need to rake through rails

nicebitofquiche · 20/11/2018 21:04

Not all of those coats cost so much. There are a lot of fakes going around.

Pinkyyy · 20/11/2018 21:04

Calvin Klein is in most outlets for fraction of the price, love moschino can also be found cheap- actually in Tk maxx quite often. These coat brands are less likely to be found discounted though, there is a moncler outlet in Bicester village but it only sells very strange coats that nobody really wants to buy

Buttercupsandaisies · 20/11/2018 21:05

Even in tkmaxx they're out my budget -£90-120 for jumper etc!

BeardedMum · 20/11/2018 21:06

Ds1 told me about these coats the other day. I just cannot believe people buy coats that expensive unless they are planning to ski to the pole. I agree its not about wealth either. Generally in our area, the less wealthy people are the more designer labels. Makes no sense at all.

MaisyPops · 20/11/2018 21:07

It makes sense to me. Any parent buying such a coat for their child is prob a ly doing it for the status they think it brings not the quality of the product.
See also parents who buy Vivienne Westwood ballet flats and Michael kors bags for school. Most of the students I know who seem to need sellotape for bagd/superglue for shoes seem to have expensive branded items.

I am so glad I have drummed into my kids how daft designer clothing is - I never have to listen to any pleading. And I haven't seen many kids wear CG - a few adults maybe.
At our school the kids are not allow denim, leather or bomber jackets, not corporate enough - I think it's a bit daft of the school, but it's all about academy branding isn't it!

stressedtiredbuthappy · 20/11/2018 21:13

Scrolled through the comments but not seen one on the fact that Canada goose is predominantly wolf fur?? Lovely Sad

FrankieChips · 20/11/2018 21:22

Good. Real fur should be banned everywhere.

KC225 · 20/11/2018 21:23

I'm in rural Sweden and it's -12 tonight. None of the kids at school have Canada Goose coats.

MaisyPops · 20/11/2018 21:30

EvaReady
No Leather and denim jackets is a common rule in schools. It has nothing to do with academy branding (I remember having my denim jacket confiscated as a student) and everything to do with them not being proper coats and are more of a fashion thing.

If I look at my KS3/4 students, a third don't wear a coat (and then tell me they are freezing and wet in the rain because teen logic), most wear any other sensible coat & a tiny minority try to wear a hoody under their blazer because they prefer a hoody to a school jumper (they quickly lose the hoody).

wirralsquirral · 20/11/2018 21:30

Frankie I assume you are vegan with that stance?

madeyemoodysmum · 20/11/2018 21:31

I'd never send my kids in a designer coat. It could get nicked or lost

But head is unreasonable. Kids need a warm coat in winter. It's a good brand that will keep them warm.

Flaskfan · 20/11/2018 21:32

It's not wealth shaming. It's protecting those kids, like ths kid I was, who have unbranded-or worse, cheap branded- clothes. I was ridiculed and humiliated in high school for my Nick's trainers and it's fucking horrible. There is nothing that you, as a kid, can.do.about having poor parents or parents who won't get into debt to keep you up with your peers, but the twats who make your life miserable don't care.
