I've got a UTI, and I'm so surprised at how painful it is

I'm on day 5 now, and on antibiotics, not much sleep as it hurts when I move!
(Just wanted a whinge really)

Drink ocean spray cranberry juice a whole carton... You'll thank me later x

BevBrook · 20/11/2018 08:32

I am with you. I have recurrent uti and it is the absolute pits. The doctor says I keep getting infections but I think it is the same infection that never really goes away.

BevBrook · 20/11/2018 08:32

And cranberry juice doesnt work for me!

MrsStrowman · 20/11/2018 08:34

8 months pregnant, current UTI led to visible blood in my urine, and baby keeps stamping on my bladder, can't drink cranberry juice because of gestational diabetes. I feel your pain!!

Theyprobablywill · 20/11/2018 08:36

Fuck, you ain't wrong. I had a uti a few weeks and the last time I felt so shit was post chemo.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 20/11/2018 08:41

Oh god yes they're awful. I get lots and they make me feel like death.

ElideLochan · 20/11/2018 08:44

Argh! Where is my reply!!!

I've had it before, but never longer than 1 day

OP posts:
owowfuckeeow · 20/11/2018 09:14

Omg yes! I had one last week for the first time in 10 years and I forgot that they hurt like hell.

I feel your pain!

IJustLostTheGame · 20/11/2018 09:15

Nothing worse than attempting to pee a razor blade.
Keep downing pints of water at a time

TheHauntedFishtank · 20/11/2018 09:52

Don’t drink cranberry juice, the sachets of cystitis treatment are much better. You can get them in supermarkets as well as pharmacies. And yes, utis are bastards - codeine was the only thing that touched the pain for me. I now start on the sachets at the merest hint of anything starting. Also a probiotic is probably a good idea in case of thrush from the antibiotics.

ElideLochan · 20/11/2018 10:18

weeing isn't a problem
It's just agonising lower abdomen pain, and tired as not sleeping because I wake up when I turn over

Frazzledsquirrel · 20/11/2018 10:19

It's savage isn't it :( I had a reoccurring uti for 4 months after I had my implant put back in... I think it threw my hormones out and didn't settle down until I cut out sugar for a month. I've had to cut out juice completely , every time I have a glass I get a uti the next day.....all I can suggest is down LOADS of water , I feel your pain x

Frazzledsquirrel · 20/11/2018 10:20

Oh and sulphandine (I think that's what it's called ) helps the pain, haven't had one for 3 months now, touch wood!

livingthegoodlife · 20/11/2018 10:21

I too have a UTI. Embarrassingly I actually cried on the telephone to 111 last night, all I wanted was some antibiotics but as it's not an "emergency" they wouldn't refer me to a gp or issue a prescription. They said I had to wait for my own local gp. Well it's now 10.20 and despite calling my doc at 8am I still have no medication.

I've taken all the paracetamol & naproxen I can.

So bloody painful. Pissing razor blades I swear is more painful than childbirth.

elfintraining · 20/11/2018 10:21

Totally feel for you. Long term sufferer here, currently on antibiotics every night for over a year to prevent them.

I used to get them at least twice a month - absolutely miserable.

Hot water bottle, paracetamol,

Hope you feel better soon!

LadyFlumpalot · 20/11/2018 10:26

Drink all the water. Loads of it. Try and hold off peeing until you actually really need to (it's a subtle difference in the needing to go feeling) and when you do go you'll have a proper big long wee that won't hurt as much and will make you feel better for a while. You need to dilute your urine and try to flush it all out.

Ask for a broad spectrum antibiotic. Narrow spectrums don't work for me and I always have to end up going back again for new ones.

irnbruforlife · 20/11/2018 10:34

ive just finished my 4th round of antibiotics for uti. Its the pits. At its worse it can be dehabilitating so you have my full sympathies.

Pinkywoo · 20/11/2018 10:37

It is the worst pain, and I've had two slipped discs! I used to get them about once a month until I started taking d-mannose capsules six months ago, touch wood I've not had one since.

lottielottielottie · 20/11/2018 10:52

Painkillers help ease that constant abdomen pain from it.

A couple of months ago I had it the worst I had ever had it, I was weeing bright red blood.

Ugh, it sends shivers down my spine thinking about the pain.

Sending Thanks as it is truly horrific.

BuffysFavouriteStake · 20/11/2018 11:11

Its awful, used to get them frequently.

Waterfall d mannose is a godsend if you can get some, I get mine online, but some health shops stock it. Otherwise a bit of bicarb of soda in water helps if peeing is painful. Tastes foul though!

Drink water, take painkillers, hot water bottle on belly, and keep swearing hope you feel better soon

ElideLochan · 20/11/2018 11:14

I got Cocodamol, naproxen nothing is getting near it

Holed up in bed trying to find something to watch

Catching up on 'back to the factory ' that I recorded ages ago

SkaTastic · 20/11/2018 11:16

You have all my sympathies it is totally totally totally awful!!! I've had 3 in the last 3 month's and cried every time.

If after 5 days it's not showing an improvement I would be back at the doctors? Did they give you trimethoprim? They do jack shit for me, I need Nitrofurantoin. Last time I got one the GP at emergency appointment gave me a course for 7 days that were only twice a day and they were MAGIC.

Other top tips - hot water bottles everywhere, loads of water, no caffeine or booze at all and rest as much as you can. Fucking horrible.

talllikejerryhall · 20/11/2018 11:19

I would strongly recommend Mannose D tablets - 4 times a day, they totally got rid of a really nasty UTI I was struggling with.

It was a game-changer!

ElideLochan · 24/11/2018 21:11

Day 8, still here, on second lot of antibiotics

Completely fucked off
