I've got a UTI, and I'm so surprised at how painful it is

I'm on day 5 now, and on antibiotics, not much sleep as it hurts when I move!
(Just wanted a whinge really)

How do you know for sure that you have a UTI??

I think I may have an infection but not sure.

I have been having sharp stabbing pains in my lower abdomen and also have a green, snot looking discharge (sorry for the tmi) when I wipe after peeing. It doesn't hurt when I pee tho.

ElideLochan · 24/11/2018 21:40

I went to the drs (twice) both times did a wee sample and contained white blood cells and protein , no temp, normal blood pressure and saturation,

Second time Dr did a pregnancy.test ( Shock ) negative (phew)

They said uti
But it feels like " I've been punched in the fanny" no wee problems, just reasonably severe pain and discomfort, I wake up when I roll over in the night

@SplishSplashSplosh

How long have you had symptoms for?

I'm not sure this is a UTI op

SplishSplashSplosh · 24/11/2018 22:25

@ElideLochan

The discharge thing probably for a good month or so but the abdomen discomfort I've noticed this week

ElideLochan · 24/11/2018 22:31

I'm no medical expert, but would say of its more than 2? Days, then pop yourself to the gp, take a sample of wee with you

Watch out for signs of sepsis, www.nhs.uk/conditions/sepsis/ (very important!!!)

UTIs are awful. I get them regularly so you have my sympathy. D-Mannose really does seem to work. I tried it in desperation after it was recommended on here. You can get it in Holland and Barrett.

marylou1977 · 24/11/2018 22:35

Is Pyridium or something similar available over the counter where you are? It’s a urinary analgesic that helps with the pain. Be aware, it will turn your urine orange.

BringItOn88 · 24/11/2018 22:37

I get them regularly. Did you have antibiotics before your urine was tested? I've had cases where I've taken a full course of antibiotics and they have done a thing before receiving a phone call from the Doctors to say I'd need different ones. Cranberry juice and the sachets do nothing for me

YouTheCat · 24/11/2018 22:40

Just had the same. 2 courses of antibiotics. Many hours in out of hours doctors. It's just shit. The only thing that has shifted it as the second lot of antibiotics didn't work was drinking a shed load of water. I have literally flushed myself out and continue to do so to avoid it coming back. The pain was so bad last week that I ended up being sent home.

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/11/2018 22:41

That doesn't sound like any UTI that I've had. My UTI pain is mainly on weeing, the accompanying abdominal pain is more of a dull ache.

Bishalisha · 24/11/2018 22:42

I’ve been blighted for UTIs for years and used to have to piss in a warm bath Blush

Clearthinking · 24/11/2018 22:46

Had one so bad I peed blood. Of course couldn't produce sample at Drs but she gave me some antibiotics and that cleared it up. Will always ALWAYS drink plenty of water from then on

talllikejerryhall · 06/12/2018 13:52

Try Mannose D - I was in agoney until I tried it and it sorted me out within an hour of taking it!

It's a miracle worker

ElideLochan · 14/12/2018 21:15

so i had an ultrasound, and everything is ok, coil where it should be,...
