To think there is a problem with MNet moderation overnight?

First we had the Irish racism debacle (over a week to reply to a poster complaining about Mod blindness to anti-Irish sentiments, followed by a generic “thanks for the feedback” response).

Now we have blatant antisemitism and personal abuse being left up because Myforgiven claimed she meant to post her antisemitic comment on a different thread where horrible antisemitic comments and personal abuse would have been totally fine.

We have a problem with teenage boys and misogynist trolls, particularly overnight. Now we seem to have a load of racists spewing their shit on here as well. Why is there so little moderation at the peak times for offensive/drunken trolls?

YANBU - not sure how MN can cover overnight though.

Shriek · 20/11/2018 04:10

Completely agree.
Was the most disgusting attacks on a very sensitive thread just the other night.

Just appalling. I also said this to MNHQ

Shriek · 20/11/2018 04:13

Ydanbu - I don't see why its difficult. Lightens the load on the morning shift!

Sashkin · 20/11/2018 04:21

Bibi they could employ more people to work the night shift? That’s what other boards do. They could employ somebody in a different time zone if they can’t find enough people to work antisocial hours.

OP posts:
Tadda · 20/11/2018 04:23

They can employ me! (have to stay in hospital until c-section and cannot sleep :( - or now, it seems, even poo....)....

Sashkin · 20/11/2018 04:25

I’m not in the UK, and since I moved timezones it is REALLY noticeable how different the tone on here is overnight - there are far more abusive posters coming on here solely to berate other posters, post horrible misogynist or racist rants, and disrupt threads. I assume this stuff gets deleted immediately during the day so I didn’t used to see it.

I don’t know if it’s drunks or just trolls taking advantage of lower staffing levels to post stuff that wouldn’t be left up at 10am, but it’s the absolute worst time for MN to minimise moderation.

Oh hi Tadda! 👋👋 Nice to see you!

(Another 4 weeks to try get to 37 btw...placenta pravia...on plus side baby having overnight parties (she's doing fine atm and being really looked after here atm) -so wide awake...think I'd quite happily 'moderate' anyone right now!)

Tadda · 20/11/2018 04:29

Hiya @Sashkin :) ! Just saw it was you!x

AdoreTheBeach · 20/11/2018 04:55

Hi. I read through that thread and when I got to Myforgiven post, it was gone. So, MNHQ is working, just perhaps fewer people.

I’m sure they rely on our reporting too. I have reported a thread once (whole thread though as opposed to a comment), during the day, and I think it fits tahe a while for them to read them before taking them down.

OhnoD · 20/11/2018 05:01

The thing is I read the thread in question and got to the post in question here. And I laughed.

I am Jewish.

Sashkin · 20/11/2018 05:06

Ohno the poster then carried on calling the OP a cunt....

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ at the poster's request

Sashkin · 20/11/2018 05:13

If it’s just one post then it’s easy to ignore. If it’s somebody repeatedly calling the OP names, making stuff up etc it totally derails the thread as other posters then start arguing with the troll. Which is what they want. It just makes MN much less usable when one person is shitting up the threads 🤷‍♀️

If it was just a single thread I wouldn’t have bothered with a whole separate thread about it, but like I say it is really noticeable that stuff is allowed to stand overnight that would have been zapped immediately during the day. And I can’t imagine that’s deliberate MNHQ policy (post-watershed MN! GrinGrin)

GaryBaldbiscuit · 20/11/2018 05:38

Perhaps they need some Australian based moderators, where night work is their day time?

I agree with you Sashkin (and others). I am a good bit west of Greenwich too.

Some absolute horrors emerge from the woodwork at night.

I am on the thread you mentioned and have reported all unseemly posts. But nothing will be done with them until working hours, GMT.

It's not ok to leave all of that s#^t out there for hours, for all the reasons you list.

ohlittlepea · 20/11/2018 06:19

Mnet should definitely employ night staff. It'd be a great family friendly role, easy to do from home, maybe split the night into two, so you either do a twighlight 8pm till 2am or an early 2am till 8am. I'd apply! 😁

HolyMountain · 20/11/2018 06:24

We have a problem with teenage boys

....and you’ve got this information from where?

As a mother of young adult men who wouldn’t have even give this forum a second thought as teenagers let alone troll it I find that comment very bloody irritating unless you have actual facts to back it up.

footballmum · 20/11/2018 06:26

MN could employ people in a different time zone so it’s a day job for them.

I haven’t seen the post in question but I do think posters need to learn to ignore the trolls. The majority of posters on MN are intelligent women who know exactly what is going on but continue to argue and argue with these tossers. We all know that they’re only doing it for attention-just don’t give it to them!!

cheesefield · 20/11/2018 06:57

Can't we just ignore the idiots and MN will get on it in the morning? We're all grown ups here.

LEMtheoriginal · 20/11/2018 07:03

Do they employ moderators if a night ? I thought they just used volunteers. Maybe this has changrd - if not it should. They make enough money so they should actially employ people who can respond in a timely manner to reports.

I actually gave up on reporting issues during the night as it is never picked up until the morning.

LEMtheoriginal · 20/11/2018 07:08

Cheesefield - yes we are grown ups but some posters are vulnerable. Many people find night time difficult and turn to forums such as this support. Yeah we can ignore the twatty trolls who post about Sharon and dead wasps but its the abuse on threads that is allowed to continue unchecked that has the potential for harm.

Caprisunorange · 20/11/2018 07:09

That comment was deleted hours ago- I saw the hidden message well before midnight

TansyViolet · 20/11/2018 07:33

MNHQ have repeatedly said that they will not have overnight mods, and they rely on the nightwatch (volunteer users) to hide posts if they see reports
Is this because they don't want to put their hand in their pocket or some other reason? Surely they can afford it
