To think there is a problem with MNet moderation overnight?

First we had the Irish racism debacle (over a week to reply to a poster complaining about Mod blindness to anti-Irish sentiments, followed by a generic “thanks for the feedback” response).

Now we have blatant antisemitism and personal abuse being left up because Myforgiven claimed she meant to post her antisemitic comment on a different thread where horrible antisemitic comments and personal abuse would have been totally fine.

We have a problem with teenage boys and misogynist trolls, particularly overnight. Now we seem to have a load of racists spewing their shit on here as well. Why is there so little moderation at the peak times for offensive/drunken trolls?

To be fair, paying someone an anti social hours wage for something as daft as moderating a forum isn’t really a great business idea. The volunteer one is good- surely lots of people would love it? That’s how most public forums are moderates

TheSultanofPingu · 20/11/2018 08:35

Yes, so nice to see teenage boys lumped in with the racists, mysogynists and anti Semites Hmm

Shriek · 20/11/2018 19:47

This, to anyone that thinks its not a problem....
A girl came on here the other night that had literally just been raped. I will not give further details, but he was still there, that's all.
The thread was literally splattered all over, all night long, with the most disgusting attacks on the OP, and on me, personally. Everyone on the thread was amazingly supportive but it was extremely hard and some of the most disgusting stuff I've seen. Meanwhile poor OP!!?!?!?
So, no, this is really not OK, done in real life, its criminal to attack people this way

Gooseflesh · 20/11/2018 19:53

YANBU

Shriek · 20/11/2018 21:45

So...in the case of that OP ^ hiding the thread takes away her only line of support at a crucial time. As I understand it that's all a nightwatch volunteer can do...hide the whole thread?

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 20/11/2018 21:49

Drunk is no excuse for being racist.

"Sashkin

Ohno the poster then carried on calling the OP a cunt...."

Hmm I called someone that once and it stood but I think that's because multiple agreed the poster was being a cunt. 🤷‍♀️

Shriek · 22/11/2018 16:20

And there's none, for there to be a problem with.

I don't know why it would be so difficult to do?!

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 22/11/2018 16:36

Frankly, MN is such a big business now that they shouldn’t be relying on volunteer moderation overnight. It is no longer a little kitchen table start up, struggling to pay the bills. It is taking advantage of posters’ generous spirits.

NameChangeJustNow · 22/11/2018 16:38

I've started a thread on site stuff asking if it's possible to volunteer for the Night Watch. I am up half the night breastfeeding anyway and some of the comments on that rape thread in particular were really horrible.

I agree with you

Shriek · 22/11/2018 17:51

Its hardly struggling and needin 'volunteers'...MN really should stump up paid roles to prevent that awful thread, and other mentioned, staying up all night again.

Their major issues are at night (drink, drugs, bored idiots, hate inciting mysogynists, goady posters and trolls)

Shriek · 22/11/2018 17:53

Night time is also a time of awful abuses and isolation and any kind of health issues for someone need in support or advice when everything is shut down

Shriek · 22/11/2018 17:58

Capri something as daft as moderating a forum ??!! What does that mean exactly? Have you seen any of the extreme abuse, and believe its the responsible thing to do to leave it there? Despite this completely destroying an OPs thread, let alone all the racism, sexism, porn, and other abuse, it should stand, you think, and not be moderated? Or have I misread that, and if so, sorry

WorraLiberty · 22/11/2018 18:00

We have a problem with teenage boys

....and you’ve got this information from where?

That's what I'd like to know too Confused

I can't imagine Mumsnet even being on the radar of most teenagers. I'm pretty sure there are far more interesting sites for them to troll, should they be that way inclined.

Mumsnet has a massive female adult membership, so imo it follows that the majority of trolls here will be female adults.

Shriek · 22/11/2018 18:03

Men, of a certain abusive type, will certainly make something as high profile as MN a target for attacks, as do TRAs.
Those kinds of men will go to any length to discredit women, at the very least.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 22/11/2018 18:17

Shriek, indeed. Every day there’s outrage on the boards about women getting a raw deal, both posters and MNHQ campaign for increased women’s rights at home and in the workplace. Meanwhile, happily exploiting the free labour from members for their own financial gain. Not very ‘on message’, is it?
