I've made my husband nduja, bacon and mushroom pasta sauce but I'm going to have toast for dinner. With marmite. Yay me

@maddiemookins16mum You've lost points for the odd number of toasts. 4 or 6 - pick your side

What is this phrase ‘marmite toast’? It’s toast and marmite!

Yanbu, btw. I trust it was on thick sliced unnutritional white bread dripping with butter, proper butter.

walke · 19/11/2018 21:46

It's was on pre-cut Hovis granary, sadly. Should have been uncut tiger. I'll have to roar tomorrow

Oh but with proper butter. Lurrrrrrpak

Tiger bread (or giraffe bread, more accurately) is grim.

White bread. Co-op do nice white bread in their bakery, unsliced so you can get the thickness exactly right.

Waitrose essential butter is the best, smells like proper butter should.

walke · 19/11/2018 21:51

I have a pat of Waitrose essential butter on the side. I bounce from that to lurpak on a daily whim. Perfect.

YABVU re the TIGER bread

I didn't fancy dinner today and couldn't decide what to have. On the back of this thread I had toasted Batch bread with connacht gold butter an inch thick and marmite, it really hit the spot, there must be nutrition in there somewhere right?

SunflowerJo08 · 19/11/2018 22:05

Sounds a perfect dinner. Tho I'd have Vegemite, and a slice of jam toast for afters!

ApplesinmyPocket · 19/11/2018 22:16

I do love Marmite (as a fussy child Marmite toast or Marmite sandwiches was about all I ate) but these days I prefer Tesco Yeast Extract which seems just a little bit less 'harsh'. Happy to eat both though!

My trouble is, I like it best with about half an inch of butter on the toast.

Bodicea · 19/11/2018 22:19

When I was a student a regular dinner for me used to be 4 slices of toast with varying different toppings on each slice to keep it interesting, usually Philadelphia, marmite, peanut butter, then jam to finish. Miss those days.

chickenloverwoman · 19/11/2018 22:43

Mmm mature toast. Cold crispy toast, butter and marmite mmmm

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 19/11/2018 22:53

Oh I want that now. Marmite, lurpak and white bread. If I'm feeling posh I top it with very thinly sliced cucumber.

RoobyMyrtle · 19/11/2018 23:01

Try toasting it after you've put on the marmite, then butter afterwards. Absolutely heavenly! 😍

Boobahs · 19/11/2018 23:01

It is 11pm here and I'm just on my way to bed, having eaten a proper cooked meal earlier on. I've just had to make a slice of toast smothered in Lurpak and Marmite after reading this thread.

Can I blame it on being 13 weeks pregnant though?

Maelstrop · 19/11/2018 23:15

Grate cheddar on top, melt under grill. O. M. G.

Gingaaarghpussy · 19/11/2018 23:16

I feel so boring!
I've just had a marmite sandwich.
But I've never had anything other than marmite and peanut butter as a deviation from the "norm".
I must educate myself.

ZebraOwl · 20/11/2018 05:24

Now wondering (not slept, weird how hungry seem to get overnight when don’t sleep compared to when do Confused ) how soon can reasonably get up & have toast with marmite (& dairy-free margarine, in my case...) for breakfast Blush

(Oh & obvs YWNBUAA to have marmite on toast for your tea.)

walke · 20/11/2018 06:24

dinodiva · 20/11/2018 06:43

I just had a marmite and Philadelphia sandwich. Butter under the marmite though, obviously.
I was up 4 times with the 6 month old and once with the 3 year old so it hit the spot.

Bloody love marmite. Marmite with egg, marmite with cheese, marmite with peanut butter, marmite pasta...
Sadly my non-marmite-eating husband does not understand the correct ratio of butter to marmite (lots) so when he makes it for me it’s always disappointing.

Unicyclethief · 20/11/2018 06:45

Why didn’t he cook his own dinner? Or have the marmite on toast?

SuchAToDo · 20/11/2018 06:54

Ooh I love Marmite on toast...it's especially good if you have it with cheese in toast... yummyGrin

SuchAToDo · 20/11/2018 06:54

*cheese on toast

spreadmarmznotmisery · 20/11/2018 07:28

@Unicyclethief Because he works hard and I'm nice. Why you so mean?

MaryShelley1818 · 20/11/2018 07:34

Ok...I’ve never ever had Marmite!! I’m going to have to change this aren’t I?!
Yesterday for lunch though me and DS (11mths) shared 3 crumpets with 3 different toppings.....Dairylea, Butter and Strawberry Jam, And Chocolate and Peanut Butter!
