Today I almost met somebody who has been a big figure in my life. It took ages to pluck up the courage to speak to them and I was totally dismissed. I wasn’t being a “gushing fan” and it was a setting that was laid back. Everyone else was lovely. Have tou ever met someone you admire and wish you hadn’t?

I met Jinkx Monsoon a couple of years ago and she was lovely! She signed a poster telling my husband to take me to drag con for our honeymoon Grin. Alyssa Edwards and Willam were great too.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 20/11/2018 20:08

@Butterface she may well be sober, I did say she was wasted Grin

MissMarplesKnitting · 20/11/2018 20:16

@notanotherparkingfine Nick Park is a gem. His mum lives near my family and he's known locally for being delightful.

HildaZelda · 20/11/2018 20:25

@Lovejoyfull, aw, delighted to hear that Nicola Walker was a sweetheart. I absolutely love her. She's my definite girl crush.

The amount of people here saying that Peter Kay is a wanker! Not the first time I've heard that either, and Cilla Black was known for being horrible and nasty especially to retail and catering staff.

I've met: Martin Kemp - fanny gallops all the way! Gorgeous, and really really nice. DH had been a Spandau fan back in the day and he was very impressed by him too.

David Jason - very polite and friendly, ditto Paula Radcliffe.

A friend of mine works for Specsavers and met Kylie when her glasses range was launched. She said she was absolutely lovely and so so tiny.

Whocansay · 20/11/2018 20:34

My mate met Keanu Reeves through work. Apparently he very nice, but was quite quiet and unassuming. My mate really liked him and was surprised he was so 'normal'.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/11/2018 20:39

I have no idea who Jinx Monsoon is! I must be getting old!

henhelppls · 20/11/2018 20:46

I've met loads as DH is in 'the biz'. Here are a few appraisals.

Josh Widdecombe - bit of a dick
Richard Osman - LOVELY
Mel C - kind, easy to talk to, smells expensive
Robbie - mad eyes, bit scary, dick
Olivia Coleman - sweetie
Jimmy Carr - DICK
Michael Palin - lovely, obvs
Will Young - bit of a dick
Frank Skinner - MONUMENTAL DICK (whole tv crews have threatened to resign because of his dickery)
Vic Reeves - bonkers but kind

Hellomatey001 · 20/11/2018 21:06

@henhelppls

What's the Frank Skinner story??? Me curious!

BillThePony · 20/11/2018 21:11

On a job once I met welsh actor Luke Evans, he was an absolute arsehole, Vin Diesel was on the same job and was just lovely.

choli · 20/11/2018 21:12

Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy seemed to think 15 yr old me asking for an autograph was offering sex.

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/11/2018 21:27

@henhelppls also wondering what the deal with Frank Skinner is..

alienor13 · 20/11/2018 21:29

My friend and I met Nathan from Brother Beyond a couple of years ago at a music festival. Both of us a bit old to have been fans - he approached us and I did't know who he was until he'd gone .He was actually lovely and friendly.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 20/11/2018 21:35

Not an idol, but I met Bob Dylan a few years ago and he was monumentally grumpy to the point of rudeness! Turned out he hadn’t got a great grasp of UK geography and hadn’t realised his destination was an hour’s drive from the city he’d flown into, so by the time he got to us he was somewhat pissed off.

FrankieChips · 20/11/2018 21:44

I used to work in a record shop and I met loads.

Lovely - Paul Weller (total gem), Brian May, Tamsin Greig, Keira Knightly, Fiona Bruce, Simon Pegg.
Dicks - Sharleen Spiteri, Bobby Gillespie, the singer from Stereophonics.
Joanna Froggertt was a bit rude but maybe just shy.

HildaZelda · 20/11/2018 21:50

Oh I forgot about Graham Norton, lovely but a bit mad. I think what you see on TV is the real him.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 20/11/2018 21:53

Steps, Rylan and Sophie Ellis Bextor were a absolute dolls.

I went to an event with Rachel Allen, the Irish TV chef, and she was an absolute goddess, I wish we could be friends.

I've never met a mean or impolite famous people, but I've only ever met them at events. I've never approached anyone famous I've recognised going about their business (though the most famous is someone who came 9th or something on X Factor in 2009...)

Cauliflowersqueeze · 20/11/2018 21:54

Honestly until this weekend I really admired Andrew Marr. Really admired him for being a fair and pleasant interviewer and for actually getting back into his job after his stroke. I liked his upbeat humour.

And then he was so unnecessarily rude and snappy and unpleasant towards Shami Chakrabarti that I have really lost all interest in him.

Howvery · 20/11/2018 21:56

Where I used to work hosted lots of events and through that I met lots of famous faces, Sean bean, Sam Neil, Patrick Stewart, Jim Carey, McFly, French and Saunders and all absolutely lovely. The rudest person we ever had was Katherine Jenkins. Her publicist told all the staff we weren’t to look her in the eye or cross her path when she was walking. Suffice to say she did not receive such treatment and walked around in such a huff. So so dismissive of others and demanding! Not even that big of a celebratory compared to others who were so humble and down to earth.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 20/11/2018 21:56

Just remembered my absolute favourite - Constance Hall. She is fun and charismatic and emotionally switched on. Loved her and wanted to be best friends for ever.

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 20/11/2018 22:06

Met Flava Flav once, he was exceedingly polite Grin

Wordsmith · 20/11/2018 22:07

The first single I bought was Grandma's Party by Paul Nicholas (I know... not cool). I later worked in advertising and one client was a major theatre in Birmingham which was a venue in his tour of Barnum. I wrote a radio ad to promote it - PN doing a voiceover, basically. We recorded it in Bristol and he was a complete arrogant prat who wouldn't take any direction. He didn't even take his chewing gum out of his mouth when recording. Had to do another recording with him a few weeks later in Birmingham and he was just the same. Apparently he has quite a reputation for being up himself.

FrankieChips · 20/11/2018 22:29

Oh, forgot I chatted to Noel Fielding in the ladies in a Camden pub a few years ago. He’s the most chilled out bloke I’ve met. Super sweet and interesting. Then a tall modely type came in and dragged him out.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 20/11/2018 22:29

Rowan Atkinson is a Grade A bellend. I feel sorry for anyone whose kids are Mr Bean fans and have the misfortune to cross his path. He thinks anyone sharing a space with him is invading his privacy and kicks off, even when they're just walking in the same direction as him and either haven't noticed him or don't care. He's a really shit racing driver as well.

Cauliflowersqueeze · 20/11/2018 22:34

Have heard lots of people say Josh Widdecombe is a dick. Shame - he seems quite nice on the telly.

SatanClaus · 20/11/2018 22:42

There was rumours that frank was ousted from skys portrait artist show because of phenomenal dickery, suits me as I rather love Stephen Mangan.
