Tell me what fun things she does

This is freaky!

HelenUrth · 17/11/2018 23:07

Ask her to sing you a song :)

Itsear · 17/11/2018 23:09

My neighbour just gave birth and named her daughter Alexa, very odd choice IMO given the popularity of the echo/dot/spot. Feel for the kid!

ClinkyMonkey · 17/11/2018 23:24

10 year old DS ordered my mum's Alexa to self destruct. Thankfully she didn't oblige! Quite a funny response if you try it though.

NoFoxGiven · 17/11/2018 23:27

My husband is forever asking me to remind him of shit he could just put in his phone and I do not have the capacity to remember everything for everyone in the household Angry Can I ask all of those with Alexa, has it improved some of the bickering with your DPs?

rainbowpony · 17/11/2018 23:37

Anyone got the one with the screen??

Talisin · 17/11/2018 23:44

thegreylady You don’t need anything else.

m0therofdragons · 17/11/2018 23:52

I've come to the conclusion Siri is much more serious than Alexa.

Cherries101 · 17/11/2018 23:59

It will soon be able to do a lot more. A lot of fintechs are developing apps for Alexa

WoodpeckersAreWood · 17/11/2018 23:59

Alexa. Open the pod bay doors

VioletBow · 18/11/2018 00:01

Ask her to download the skill trivia hero, or if you have the app add it. I have sat for (ashamedly) hours playing it feeling like I'm on a quiz show 😂

KathyBates · 18/11/2018 00:03

I just like to check the app and see what stupid stuff my OH has been asking her when I'm not around!

CarolDanvers · 18/11/2018 00:06

What's the difference between the Echo and the Echo Dot? Just the size?

megletthesecond · 18/11/2018 00:13

Marking my place.
The dc's want Dots for Xmas.
I assume they're just fancy alarm clocks that answer questions? We don't have on line music accounts and I'm not sure I want to go down that route. Neither do they have smart phones to link them to.
I hate tech these days 😫.

DinoDave · 18/11/2018 00:13

Flash briefing every morning.
Regular reminders (put the bins out at 7pm on a Sunday)
The alarm and timer

Mainly music though. ‘Play me music from musicals’ is a fab mix. And you can ask for fairly specific lists like ‘R&B from the Noughties’ or ‘Music good for cleaning’.

PabloTescobar · 18/11/2018 00:15

There is an app called Anypod which I use to listen to podcasts.

We like the trivia hero game.

And I am currently using it to play ambient sounds which will help me get to sleep in a minute when I get off here.

DinoDave · 18/11/2018 00:15

Oh can’t believe I forgot the shopping list! We add to it periodically and then just buy everything on the list (the app on your phone) when we’re at the supermarket.

Whitecottonsheets · 18/11/2018 00:23

I genuinely don’t understand why you would invite a multinational corporations listening device into your home? I get it can be funny and sometimes helpful but the purpose of these gadgets is to gather information for Google and amazon so they can better target adverts and use the data make bigger profits. Why do you think the gadgets are all on sale for less than what they would cost to produce? The companies don’t make money from the devices- they want them in your home to gather data. I know phones do this to a certain extent but why would you want a device whose sole purpose is to listen to your conversations waiting to hear it’s name?

Talisin · 18/11/2018 00:35

CarolDanvers The Echo has better speakers than the Dot. That’s pretty much the only difference now - with the older models, only the Dot had a line out connection for external speakers but that’s no longer the case.

SmilingButClueless · 18/11/2018 00:41

I’ve just asked Alexa if she’s a Jedi Grin

Her science fiction pop culture references are pretty good.

Pardalis · 18/11/2018 00:48

Question of the day!!

Auntpetunia2015 · 18/11/2018 00:55

I use her relaxation technique before bed 15 mins and I’m dead to the world. She also plays a lovely selection of relaxing noises waves rain trains etc.

Aquilla · 18/11/2018 01:01

Such fun eh.

LoudJazzHands · 18/11/2018 01:32

DH: Oh, do you know who I met today?
Me: Alexa, drumroll please.
Alexa: does a drumroll
DH: never mind

Grin
Cineraria · 18/11/2018 01:34

DS1 likes asking her to make dinosaur noises when he is playing with his toy dinosaurs. She does better ones than we do.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/11/2018 01:36

Ask Alexa to play thunderstorm sounds when you go to bed. My husband and I couldn't sleep without it.
