JellyButton15 · 17/11/2018 21:51

Ask her to play rock, paper, scissors! X

WontonSoupForTheSoul · 17/11/2018 21:51

DH: Oh, do you know who I met today?
Me: Alexa, drumroll please.
Alexa: does a drumroll
DH: never mind Hmm

thesnailandthewhale · 17/11/2018 21:53

Ask her to sing the National Anthem

heathers00 · 17/11/2018 21:53

"Alexa, tell me a Christmas joke"

too soon?

ILiveInSalemsLot · 17/11/2018 21:53

The kids like to play ‘the animal game’ and ‘would you rather?’
She tells quite good jokes.
I love all the music I can listen to. From Latino pop to classical piano.

Lifeofa · 17/11/2018 21:54

Do you have the hiccups?

UpstartCrow · 17/11/2018 21:55

Stop calling it 'she'.
Carefully put it in a bucket of water.
Take the bucket outside,.
Job done.

reddressinggown · 17/11/2018 21:59

She said she doesn't work for the FBI she works for Amazon

Tell her to set timers.
Tell her to remind you - if you've got the Alexa app on your phone it will text you.
Ask for the weather.
Get her to put things on your shopping list or your to do list.
If you have other amazon devices, ask to drop in on them - you can then speak to people through them rather than shout.
If you have a kindle she will read books from them (not as good as audible, but good enough as it's free).
Set up music groups if you have more than one so it plays music for you all over the house if you're cleaning.
Get smart plugs - I just walk out of my sitting room at night and tell her to turn off the lights, which is handy if you have a cat in your arms.
Meow meow stops if you tell her to.
All slightly more boring than previous posts, but very useful. Smile
Says she who has three echoes and has just bought a dot in the sale.

My DD is nagging for us to get one (it's not going to happen) so we were talking about how/why it is female, and what it would be like if it were male.

E.g.
Us: "Alexa, how do I get to Liverpool from Manchester?"
Alexa: "How do you want to travel? Road, rail, or air?"
Us: "Road"
Alexa:
Vs
Us: "Alex, how do I get to Liverpool from Manchester?"
Alex: "I dunno mate, drive?"

Us: "Alexa, what will the weather be like today?"
Alexa: "Starting cloudy with some fine drizzle, clearing by lunchtime."
Vs
Us: "Alex, what will the weather be like today?"
Alex: "Er, look out the window?"

mineofuselessinformation · 17/11/2018 22:01

And playing back the sound clips from your history is funny too when she gets it wrong.

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 17/11/2018 22:01

I spent 20 minutes this evening pranking my 4 year old by turning the lights on and off in her bedroom. Worth every penny.

reddressinggown · 17/11/2018 22:02

I asked "Alexa tell me the latest news on brexit"

She's playing some creepy music 😱

OP posts:
TroysMammy · 17/11/2018 22:04

I can't believe how rude you all are. Don't you say please to Alexa?

......... Just me then Grin

bringbackthestripes · 17/11/2018 22:04

Ooh tell me more. Watching with interest. I think I might want Alexa on my Christmas list.

Atchiclees · 17/11/2018 22:06

Reminders for non uniform day and such like as we are having breakfast.
Flash news briefing
All our lights and heating can be controlled via Alexa with Hue and Hive
Weather, traffic reports, Amazon music, listening to radio, helping with homework.
Jokes, party games.

Ohsolomio · 17/11/2018 22:07

Try telling her to play Baby Shark when you're all of 1!

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 17/11/2018 22:08

Can I just ask all the current Alexa owners, will she just work as an ordinary Bluetooth speaker?
I'm desperate for one, but unfortunately she won't work with Deezer. We've been on Deezer for about five years now and I simply don't have the inclination to swop to Spotify or Amazon Music and have to redo all my playlists

Bluelonerose · 17/11/2018 22:09

See these make it sound fun but I can see it just sitting on the side gathering dust.
Will follow with interest.

QOD · 17/11/2018 22:10

Alexa is singing me the national anthem right now
Hahahahahhaah

Girlicorne · 17/11/2018 22:11

ask her to fart!! sorry very immature :-)

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 17/11/2018 22:11

Bluelonerose i thought that too until I got one and it has a million more uses that I love that I never thought of.

Especially "remind me in 20 minutes to stir the dinner" etc

han01uk · 17/11/2018 22:12

My kids love to get her to fart....lots 🙈
