We moved to a new home (new to us Not new build) and we've all been ill a lot since we moved here - a friend has suggested we should smudge the place to cleanse and start over? AIBU to smile and nod and not know wtf she is on about?! Help!

It's that wavey, smokey stick thingy isn't it? Not sure how threatening to burn it down will make your house healthier. You'd probably give it PTSD or something.

VioletCharlotte · 16/11/2018 23:18

I would, it clears the energy.

Fabellini · 16/11/2018 23:19

Sage it? Wouldn’t do any harm. Not saying it’d do any good either, but power of the mind and all that.....

alltoomuchrightnow · 16/11/2018 23:20

Well, it smells great and is natural.
I worked in a shop where I had to smudge every single morning around the entire building on owners orders.

naicepineapple · 16/11/2018 23:24

What the hell is smudging?

When did you move in? Is there any damp/mould anywhere?

MadeleineMaxwell · 16/11/2018 23:24

Ah yes, light some incense, chuck some organic crystals on the windowsill, vibrations, something something quantum, cleansing and so on.

YANBU.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/11/2018 23:30

If you wee in one specific corner every day it has much the same effect

RCohle · 16/11/2018 23:32

Have you considered a multivitamin instead?

pinkdelight · 16/11/2018 23:33

My hippy mate does this. And a load of other mystical bollocks that has zero effect on improving her chaotic life. I smile and nod and steer back to the saner conversations.

EdithBouvier · 17/11/2018 17:52

I know it sounds ridiculous! I also have no idea where to buy sage for burning from?! Not exactly available in Tesco. But we're really healthy in general and I actually do take daily multi vitamins etc but really need something else to help. Even if it's mind over matter I am wondering if smudging will help!? Where do I get it from?

I just Googled 'Smudging homes'.

Seriously some people have way too much time on their hands

I hope your health improves OP and that you find a practical way to help that happen.

Burning a few herbs is not the answer

Doyoumind · 17/11/2018 17:57

I've seen this wafting burning sage thing but had no idea it was smudging. Can't see the benefit myself.

As with everything, you can probably buy online should you be so inclined.

DevonshireCreamTea · 17/11/2018 18:00

Have you cleaned the house? Light switches door handles etc. Disinfect them.

EdithBouvier · 17/11/2018 20:16

Yes I have We had lived here quite a while and have a weekly cleaner

A few months I mean rather than just moved in!

As I understand it, smudging is a Native American practice, it's not some made up hippy bollocks, as some PPs seem to be inferring Hmm

EdithBouvier · 17/11/2018 20:43

I think I am interested but I'll combine it with disinfecting everything again just to be on the safe side

OP posts:
Bath9000 · 17/11/2018 20:44

Maybe just disinfect more and wash hands when you get home from anywhere. Since I started doing this a few years ago I’ve been less inclined to be ill.

StoneofDestiny · 17/11/2018 20:53

Are you in America OP.

Livedandlearned2 · 17/11/2018 20:57

You can buy sage candles, try those, just use as a normal candle.

VioletCharlotte · 17/11/2018 22:23

You can buy smudge sticks online if you've not got any alternative shops near you. Maybe ask your friend to do it with you if you're curious to see what happens? I like smudging and feel it gets rid of negative energy, but not everyone's thing. Do you feel your house needs cleansing?

EdithBouvier · 17/11/2018 22:31

I am in the UK. Yes maybe I kind of do feel like I need to rid the place of the previous owners and that when we moved in we didn't do a proper cleanse of everything. I can't quite put together what I'm trying to say but now I did and think about it I think it's more than just a clean that's needed!

OP posts:
naicepineapple · 18/11/2018 01:10

Can you not just open a window to let the negative energy out?

LewisMam · 18/11/2018 01:34

A placebo can make you feel better. It won’t actually do anything but by all means burn herbs if it gives you peace of mind.
