For me, Malory Towers. I still love those books and always enjoy reading about the outdoor pool, Gwendoline's misdemeanours, and Mamzelle's eccentricities.

onewhitewhisker Yes - I thought that about Marie's death. Nowadays the pupils would be offered counselling and so forth. I wouldn't choose Kingscote because it's too realistic. However, I would love to live at Trennels!

onewhitewhisker · 16/11/2018 21:10

screaming yes! hawks and horses - fabulous.

Athena51 · 16/11/2018 21:11

Definitely St Custard's, big Molesworth fan. Shame it was a boys school Smile

OneStepMoreFun · 16/11/2018 21:11

Hogwarts.

I loved reading about Mallory Towers - the midnight feasts and the scrapes and intrigues. But I found Darrell and Alicia too cold and knew they'd have bullied me for being wimpy and non sporty.

schooltripwoes · 16/11/2018 21:11

Hogwarts!

TheChickenOfTruth · 16/11/2018 21:13

Obviously Hogwarts.

LauraMipsum · 16/11/2018 21:14

For all those who would have wanted a letter from Hogwarts, I liked the Diary of a Background Slytherin

AgathaRaisinsCat · 16/11/2018 21:17

Chalet school - Tyrol or Armiford years. If it could be reincarnated without the religious fervour and without the cold baths it would be even better.

HabbyHadno · 16/11/2018 21:21

Miss Cackle's Academy here too!

BeanieBabe · 16/11/2018 21:23

definitely the Chalet School - I have spent the majority of my life with it as my comfort zone/obsession and have been in the original building. However I have a sneaky suspicion that I would be better suited to St Trinians

Knicknackpaddyflak · 16/11/2018 21:28

St Trinians would have eaten me alive, on a dynamic stick with a double gin. Malory Towers would have had me pushed in the pool at every possible opportunity and my tennis just wasn't good enough. So it would have been the Chalet School, the Switzerland years, and I was also obsessed for some years with those books! However being disabled, I have a nasty feeling I'd probably spend most of the time confined to bed being fed doped milk the way they did that poor girl with the back injury .....

So Hogwarts, in Ravenclaw please. A very open minded attitude towards student survival, moving staircases and ghosts, a whopping library and armchairs by the fire.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 16/11/2018 21:33

@TheMadGardener- I went to a St. John's. No private beach but we had a UVI bar and playing fields to wander off to, I had my own ensuite room for most of my time there, at one point (70s/80s, well before my 00s time) boarders were allowed small pets, girls could opt out of netball etc (girls were only in VI form at this point so quite relaxed) and the entire school got a doughnut break on Wednesday afternoons between games sessions. I wonder if the headmaster had read your book? Grin

theredjellybean · 16/11/2018 21:34

St trinians...

Pinkprincess1978 · 16/11/2018 21:37

Hogwarts! But if I'm not really a wizard (I'm still holding out for my oldest to get his letter next year 😂😂😂) then it would be Mallory towers.

Ionacat · 16/11/2018 21:37

Trebizion for me. It sounded so cool, being allowed down to the beach, and then in the third year off into town and all those joint activities with the boys at Garth. I did have an obsession with the Chalet School at one point, but I hate milk so probably wouldn’t have lasted long there.

ASauvignonADay · 16/11/2018 21:47

Hogwarts!

londonmummy1966 · 16/11/2018 21:55

Smolney Institute from Masha by Mara Kay - I know it was a real school but the idea of socialising with the Tsar and Tsarina always sounded rather fun...

Maelstrop · 16/11/2018 21:58

Mallory Towers, so I could bring my pony, of course!

Babybearsporij · 16/11/2018 21:59

Definitely the Chalet School. Also Trebizon. But the Chalet School edges it I think.

SerenDippitty · 16/11/2018 21:59

St Claire’s - I thought the girls were nicer and less cliquey there than Malory Towers.

Also Linbury Court Prep School, even though it was a boys school!

NastyCats · 16/11/2018 22:00

If you want the recipe for Debby's jumbles then get Cherry Cake and Gingerbeer which is a fantastic recipe book that tells you how to make all the gorgeous food in children's books.

longestlurkerever · 16/11/2018 22:01

Trebizon. I honestly used to cry sometimes that my book world's weren't real. Have never admitted that before...

Flashingbeacon · 16/11/2018 22:03

@GerdaLovesLiIi and others, sorry if it’s been said but St Trinians was very real. My childminder went there, probably 50+ years ago now. She just did a tinkly laugh when you asked if it was like the stories. She had signed originals from the author though. She also had driving shoes.

concretesieve · 16/11/2018 22:04

Lovely thread. Got to be Chalet School for me, though I also like lots of the other nominations. I've only read one of Joanna Lloyd's Bramber Manor books, but that's a favourite, too.

onewhitewhisker · 16/11/2018 22:10

nasty I love cherry cake and ginger beer! fab nostalgic pressie for anyone who loves classic children's books.
