To think this woman was ridiculous

I am leaving my job and am helping interview for my replacement.

Just had an interview with a lady and were just confirming that everyone is expected to work one Saturday a month and there is some overtime (paid at 1.5x hourly rate) certain months of the year.
The woman said that wouldn’t work for her and we were like “oh it was in the job description” and she puffs out her chest and declares loudly
“But I am a mother I can’t believe you have NO flexibility for this.”

Colleague who is the mother of 4 inc an 18 month year old had to seriously bite her tongue.

It’s really annoyed me and I can’t work out why

The OP hasn’t actually said that is what happened - another poster suggested it might be down to an agency error.

Having been hiring for several fixed-term roles and faced with candidates who hadn’t a clue the role wasn’t permanent, I can well believe that might be the problem. However, there are ways of dealing with issues like this. Enquiring about flexible hours is not inherently wrong, but lambasting the company for not being in a position to offer that is another thing entirely.

This is the heart of the matter here. OP - YANBU. At all.

It wouldn't work for me either. I'd have been annoyed of I didn't know before the interview, but if she did then she shouldn't have applied for the job in the first place.

Pumpkinsoup thanks for the articles.

Op sorry we hijacked your thread for a wider debate! I still think yanbu - asking about hours fine, being how she was a bit rude

Anyway this woman said to the trainer, I won't be talking on the phone or making any phone calls. Trainer was 😒. ITS A CALL CENTRE!!

When I was at university (doing a teaching course) I was put in a group with a girl who refused to do any work on the group presentation, because she didn't like talking in front of people.
