Inspired by another thread, what are things that give you the willies?

My biggest one is houseboats.

desperately hoping other people get the willies too

I agree with Saucery on paper towels used to wrap food. Ugggh.
Piers, and pier legs, and any other structure with a floor with gaps. Bridges with railings. Is it Waterloo bridge that goes over to the Souht Bank and has the trains along one side. I literally had to crawl along that.

Sounds like Hungerford Bridge. That really scared me and I too nearly had to crawl across. Millennium Bridge scary too. I avoid both now.

I hate the thought of wearing a polo neck jumper. It makes me feel really claustrophobic. I can't wear boots either, as my feet feel too enclosed.

I'm fascinated by turbines and pylons- I'd love to walk through a field of them!

Vasilisa19 · 16/11/2018 21:05

Nuns.

I think it comes from a 70's horror film, but even the more innocuous ones with faces and heads still scare me. Saw an order of nuns in Aldi a few weeks ago, gave them a wide berth.

UpstartCrow · 16/11/2018 21:09

Ostrich leather with the bobbles. Its like reverse trypophobia.

Chocolatebourbons · 16/11/2018 21:18

The QE2 bridge at the Dartford Crossing -
terrified of heights and tall bridges, so I avoid at all costs.

Pylons, especially if they are hissing and crackling in the wind.

Quarries.

Disused brickworks, especially the one at Shoreham, Sussex.

MrsDrudge · 16/11/2018 21:27

Those “life like” newborn baby dolls.
Balaclava hats

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 16/11/2018 21:32

The underneath of ships
Those candlewick bedspreads (that has made me feel sick writing that)

SparklesAndUnicorns · 16/11/2018 21:34

Sloths

earlybyrd · 16/11/2018 21:50

Walking in quiet forests
Wardrobe doors left slightly open in a dark bedroom
Your shadow when it's low sun and it's really long

The thing that gives me the willies the most - Lifts

Underground trains, but mostly stations where you can only get out by lift (no stairs) 😰😰 I actually ended up at a station like this in Barcelona. Had to get in the lift. Almost vomited.

Creepy/strange TV ads. Especially from years back. Although sometimes I YouTube strange ads to freak myself out. - Also TV Idents.

Swimming pools after they've closed. Cinemas after they've closed! Cinema auditoriums when either none or very few people have shown up to watch the film.

The locks of toilet doors im not used to..

VolcanicCoconutCoast · 16/11/2018 21:53

Oh and going to the toilet in the night when you're home alone.

Chocolatebourbons · 16/11/2018 21:57

Steep escalators, especially downward ones. E.g. Heathrow T5 and Gatwick North Terminal.

MiniDoofa · 16/11/2018 21:59

Hipster beards. (With full apologies to anyone who has one it’s not personal!)
In particular the guy sat next to me on a four hour flight who stroked and picked at his beard for the entire journey. Was like sitting next to Fagin without the entertaining show tunes and made me feel quite unwell!!

ilovepixie · 16/11/2018 22:02

Monsters under the bed
Hair in food
Bits in the washing up water
Crumbs in bed

missmouse101 · 16/11/2018 22:06

Empty swimming pools.

missmouse101 · 16/11/2018 22:08

Those pink baby birds-eek!

sollyfromsurrey · 16/11/2018 22:21

The fear of clustered holes is an actual thing. Trypophobia. Weirdly common.

Moononthehill28 · 16/11/2018 23:15

What’s it about though? I mean, why would people have this phobia?

Shriek · 16/11/2018 23:16

Omg, all this lot are NOT night-time reading!! Nightmares!
Weirs
Pot-holing - just why would you
Earthquake deep fissures opening, a la film stylee.

Shriek · 16/11/2018 23:18

The scene on House, where an endoscope gets to the stomach sphincter and suddenly all these thread worms suddenly look like spiders crawling out of the stomach!!!! Aaaaaaaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!

Sarcelle · 16/11/2018 23:20

Butter. Remember that Lurpak ad where a man made out of butter rose out of the top playing a trombone....made me feel so queasy.

Washing on a line that goes stiff with the cold.

Slightly deflated balloons that get a bit wrinkled. A bit similar to the wrinkled skin on top of a rice pudding.

Sarcelle · 16/11/2018 23:21

Forgot to mention space. Can't get my head around it.

Moononthehill28 · 16/11/2018 23:38

Yes I am also absolutely terrified of space!!

VenusClapTrap · 16/11/2018 23:46

thigh I like it, it’s fun. It was strongest when I was a child, and has faded with age. It’s a feeling of colour/taste/texture rather than an actual experience of them, if that makes sense. Not all words have taste and/or texture, some are just colour. Some don’t have anything.

I’ve often said I don’t like a baby name on the baby name boards because of the colour! Sometimes I’ve got into arguments with other syaesthetes about what colour a name is - I’ll say Penny is brown, you can’t give someone a brown name, and another poster will say no, no, Penny is a glorious deep purple, do it! Then it gets really fun as other bewildered posters are like are you on glue. Grin

VenusClapTrap · 16/11/2018 23:49

Synaesthetes, that should be, not syaesthetes.
