AIBU to think the John Lewis Christmas ad is crap?

I really usually enjoy the JL Christmas ad but this year it’s bloody awful!

PS. I should also say, in fairness, that I found them a great company to work for! Definitely know how to look after their staff.

I wept like a baby but then I love EJ. His life story is amazing. The tiny Elton is adorable. The old tired Elton was bitter sweet moment as well.

I love it but am an Elton fan.

I like it. In an age where everyone is all “I’m so above consumerism” and “xmas presents are just landfill” it’s nice to focus on the fact that presents can be really meaningful.

Really disappointed ... I usually love the anticipation of the John Lewis ads .. but this year is beyond shit!
Moz the monster was great last year ... as have been Monty the penguin, the man in the moon and even the trampolining dog!
Usually always bring a tear to my eye but not this year ... not to be centred around an egotistical diva like Elton (don’t get me wrong, I do like a lot of his songs)
Each to their own, but not for me this year .. I do like the boots one but for me the Iceland ad wins hands down and gives a lot more but unfortunately it’s “politically incorrect” and they’ve banned it! 😡

YANBU. I'm not an Elton John fan and really just did not connect with the advert.

I’m just glad it doesn’t make me cry. In previous years, the JL Christmas adverts have made me feel melancholy so am relieved that this one doesn’t!

I want to see a making of, how much of the actors faces are make up, how much of it is actual resemblance and how much is bits of CGI Elton stuck on with magic.

Sooo disappointing. Elton John does not epitomise John Lewis to me, wtf did they want to associate their previously stylish classy brand with that narcissistic egomaniac?! Not cool.
It's even more of a shame because the basic idea could've worked in so many other visual representations.

I had erased that advert from my mind because i cried each time I even thought of it.

John Lewis have done really lovely ad's previously, but have flopped big time this year. Elton John is not everyone's cup of tea, and I was looking forward to their ad & expecting so much more. Disappointing!

Didn’t particularly like the ad but then I don’t really like any ads! However that little boy is just SO adorable! He’s going to break so many hearts when he grows up 😍
