Songs - how did it’s meaning get so lost?

Sparked from another thread that was slightly off topic but reminded me how irritated I get by it-
Anyone else feel a slow burning rage when people mistake the meaning of songs so for example I have been to a fair few weddings where the couple walk onto the dance floor and their song is ‘marry you’ or ‘every breath you take’
Now I know it’s their choice, their song so who cares but I can’t help that little build up in side that makes me what to grab the mic and shout ‘listen to the words people!!’
Just want to point out that I’ve never actually done that, I stand there and smile
Am I alone in getting irritated by something so pointless?

I thought Oh What A Night was about a ONS rather than a hooker.

I agree. I there is nothing in the lyrics to suggest a prostitue.

I agree with the PPs who say "Oh What A Night" is about a one night stand. I don't think it was a terribly successful one, though - don't the lyrics include the line, "As I recall it ended much too soon"?

Has no-one mentioned The Carpenters, We've Only Just Begun?

We had Jack Johnson’s Banana Pacakes

‘We’ve got everything we need right here
And everything we need is enough
Just so easy when the whole world fits inside of your arms
Do we really need to pay attention to the alarm?’

I love darling Nikki - one of Prince's better songs but hardly ever played on the radio - too raunchy.
i agree that some songs are inappropriate, but if they mean something to the people choosing it, then its fine.
I went to a wedding where the newly married couple sung ' D I V O R C E' song together and years and years later they did!
