There is a film that hasn't been shown in years called 'The Holly and the Ivy' which I think is lovely. Celia Johnson is in it and it's about a family in the 1950s getting together for Christmas and various secrets being revealed and resolved.

I wish they'd show it again.

PurpleDaisies · 14/11/2018 13:47

I’ll add Miracle on 34th street.

Scrooged and Elf are long time favourites (obvs scrooged more so than elf) but a recent and more grown up Christmas film that I love is

The Family Stone.

It's about a man who brings his neurotic girlfriend (who then brings her sister) to his family for Christmas. SJP is the girlfriend, Diane Keaton the mother, various other good actors in it too. I love it as I can see myself in SJP character (not really being made to feel part of the family rather than neurotic) and it makes me laugh. And cry a bit.

Blanchedupetitpois · 14/11/2018 13:55

Glad to see the Muppet love 💕 I also love Elf!

Some goodies I haven’t seen before, thank you!

I'm quite fond of Arthur Christmas actually. And does The Nightmare Before Christmas count as a Christmas film or a Halloween film?
