The Hogfather is a good call whoever said that 🤗

liquidrevolution · 14/11/2018 14:47

I love a BBC dramatisation of a kids book with Eddie Izzard in it. Called Lost - so good I bought the DVD as it wasnt scheduled last year Blush. Oh and the Greatest Store in the World with Dervla Kirwan, Sean Hughes and Peter Capaldi - its on youtube. Another one on youtube is Peter Pan Goes Wrong although not very christmassy.

Home Alones 1-3, Muppet Christmas carol, Elf, Santa Claus the Movie etc. Buddy the Elf the Musical is our Christmas eve film.

Bloody love kids films.

for adulting I prefer The Holiday to Love Actually. I would like Love Actually if all the Keira knightly storyline was removed. Die Hard 2 is actually my New Years eve film Grin

Sweetooth92 · 14/11/2018 14:48

The holiday
Muppets Christmas carol or the grinch for the kids ☃️

amilosingitor · 14/11/2018 14:54

I'm a bit of a sucker for Christmas with the cranks because I love a bit of Christmas tack!

I also love Northpole: open for Christmas

BeatriceJoanna · 14/11/2018 14:57

There is a film that hasn't been shown in years called 'The Holly and the Ivy' which I think is lovely. Celia Johnson is in it and it's about a family in the 1950s getting together for Christmas and various secrets being revealed and resolved.
I remember watching that film on telly years ago and I would like to see it again. I love British black and white films from the 40s and 50s.

I always watch:

White Christmas - it just isn't Christmas without Bing. Grin
It's a Wonderful Life
The Bishop's Wife
A Christmas Carol - the Patrick Stewart version

SeekingClosure · 14/11/2018 15:01

Lydia thank you for the recommendation of The Holly and The Ivy, it sounds just up my street! I've set up a wish list for it on my TiVo box.

I love old films at Christmas -
It's A Wonderful Life
The Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant and David Niven - so lovely)
The Shop Around The Corner (James Stewart)
Meet Me In St Louis

As pps above I also love Elf, National Lampoon, Muppets. I am very fond of Jingle All The Way too.

Tv - it has become a tradition for me and dh to watch a made for TV movie called 'A Snow Globe Christmas'. I first heard about it on here actually. It's awful but also wonderful at the same time. It is on the channel Xmas 24 on the 22nd, 27 and 28 of November if anybody is interested.

I also like the Ross Kemp modern day Scrooge tv program.

EnglishRose13 · 14/11/2018 15:01

Home Alone (1 & 2)
Love Actually
While You Were Sleeping

hellsbellsmelons · 14/11/2018 15:02

The usual (yes I'm boring)
Love Actually
The Holiday
Die Hard
Trading Places
I'd also throw in there (although not Christmas) Adventures in Babysitting

Oysterbabe · 14/11/2018 15:02

Edward Scissorhands.

Firstbornunicorn · 14/11/2018 15:02

The Muppet Christmas Carol is the ultimate Christmas movie - probably one of my favourite movies overall.

SeekingClosure · 14/11/2018 15:04

Oops I forgot about Holiday Inn! Not White Christmas though. Holiday Inn Wink

Pastorkidneys · 14/11/2018 15:05

I love my Christmas with the Kranks

iamafrood · 14/11/2018 15:06
  1. It's A Wonderful Life
  2. A Christmas Carol (Patrick Stewart)
  3. Miracle on 34th Street (Richard Attenborough)
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/11/2018 15:07

Not a film, per se, but I love the BBC adaptation of the John Masefield book “A Box of Delights”.

I also love watching the Harry Potter fils at Christmas - they aren’t Christmas movies, but they feel Christmassy to me. Sadly one of the dses - probably ds3 - has made off with four of the dvds so I can’t have the HP marathon I want, unless I either brave his bedroom to search for them and wrest them back from him, or buy them again. Such is the tragedy of my life! Grin

ginghambox · 14/11/2018 15:08

Die Hard
Bad Santa
Krampus
Gemlins
A Christmas Carol _ The proper Alastair Sim version.

hellsbellsmelons · 14/11/2018 15:08

And The Wizard of Oz - of course!

TombIhadaGraveChange · 14/11/2018 15:08

Second Star to the Right
The Holiday
Nativity! (I love the songs)

The first is a really cute animation I happened up by chance a few years ago about a rabbit, guinea pig and hamster who end up delivering a present for Santa. What really got me was the way the rabbit and guinea pig were portrayed - whoever was behind it must have kept them as pets in the past. Barbara Windsor and Hugh Laurie are among the cast.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 14/11/2018 15:11

Arthur Christmas is my favourite. Also love the Holiday, Love Actually and Christmas with the Kranks

I think Harry Potter is quite Christmassy too SDTG
