Vicks. Man ill, wife sooths him with some Vicks rubbed on his chest. Child ill, she does the same.

Obviously mother/wife is never I'll, never requires care. Too bloody busy pissing around rubbing bloody Vicks vaborub on all the useless twatting men.

The advertisement fails to mention later on when she is chucking her guts up having contracted campilobacter and no one can be arsed to see if she is still alive or make her a cup of tea because the footy is on and they have to ring for a pizza.

Why is this still ok in this day and age??

Well I’m going to be honest I’ve not seen it. I was pissed off earlier though seeing MCDONALDS ON CBEEBIES ... I mean what on Earth!! Angry

The Gillette ones always remind me of the Mitchell & Webb advert for men:

woofmachine · 15/11/2018 23:38

surely this is also sexist against the male, reducing him to someone needing to be looked after by his far more competent, caring and organised partner. Loads of ads make men look like incompetent, lazy idiots because the marketers know that women, in general, are the major decision-makers in many households choosing what goes in the basket.

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/11/2018 03:53

Well they must be as dim as the men in their adverts if they think that the message that women get is 'look how great we think you are doing everything all the time' instead of 'look, you might as well do it all your bloody self because it's more effort to walk him through every simple bastard task step by step if you want him to do anything beyond sitting there scratching his arse while you run round like a blue-arsed fly'.

00100001 · 16/11/2018 07:52

@ton181

No she doesn't. It's another case of everyday sexism. And women like ke you brush it aside because it hsppens everyday you don't even notice that it is not a good message!
Once you notice it, everywhere.

ralfeesmum · 16/11/2018 10:33

Yes, the Vicks ad. irritates me too - I find myself thinking "well, if the wee Wifey rubbed a dollop of Vicks around Hopeless Husband's genitals I bet he'd soon be up and about, dancing around the bedroom like a gazelle, etc!"

Har!Har!Har!

littlecabbage · 16/11/2018 12:55

It's not just adverts it's even in schools I picked up my DN from nursery and was waiting outside and looked up at the primary school attached to the nursery unit. their motto on the wall was along the lines of teaching children they can be anything they want to be. The pictures however were a boy dressed as a Policeman, a boy dressed as a chef and a girl... in a ballgown.

PLEASE start a parents' petition about this! It's just awful.

morningconstitutional2017 · 16/11/2018 14:01

You're damn right. It infantilises (is that a word?) men who expect wife to be mummy too. Pathetic. If my dear late husband were still alive I'm sure he'd say the same.

All the same I'd always offer to rub his chest for him and he'd do the same for me.

I couldn't believe this ad, it was on again tonight on Channel 4. It breaks the gender stereotyping regs that came into force in the UK this summer. Make a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority ASA.
They've already banned two ads for promoting harmful gender stereotypes.

1Morewineplease · 14/11/2019 20:37

it also peeves me to see adverts where men are portrayed as comical idiots who can’t cope when a woman isn’t around.
Swings and roundabouts.

mamafoosah · 03/01/2020 16:15

One year later; another winter and this ad is back and annoying as ever. BUT we now have from this from the ASA:
Ban on harmful gender stereotypes in ads comes into force

www.asa.org.uk/news/ban-on-harmful-gender-stereotypes-in-ads-comes-into-force.html

I have complained.

EasterBun2001 · 03/01/2020 19:37

This stuff drives me nuts, and is also a good indication of just why we need more diversity in the workplace. I am imagining a bunch of middle aged white men signing off that ad!
Also bristled in Morrisons the other day where they had two mugs, one said 'The Boss' and one said 'Girl Boss' .... I mean COME ON!

ArntNise · 04/01/2020 17:04

@33SuzeRd how do we complain?
