Vicks. Man ill, wife sooths him with some Vicks rubbed on his chest. Child ill, she does the same.

Obviously mother/wife is never I'll, never requires care. Too bloody busy pissing around rubbing bloody Vicks vaborub on all the useless twatting men.

The advertisement fails to mention later on when she is chucking her guts up having contracted campilobacter and no one can be arsed to see if she is still alive or make her a cup of tea because the footy is on and they have to ring for a pizza.

Why is this still ok in this day and age??

I’m more bothered by the room fragrance advert where the cat has a “gentleman caller” who is actually a dog.
That’s just wrong on every level

MsJudgemental · 15/11/2018 17:31

Aptimel one annoys me too!

FastLane46 · 15/11/2018 17:36

Bit ott if you ask me.
It's just an advert, I still remember the yorkie adverts with the slogan 'it's not for girls' 😂
Just don't get so worked up about it

M3lon · 15/11/2018 17:40

YANBU - complain to the ASA. They are supposed to be policing gender stereotyping in adverts these days!

BillywilliamV · 15/11/2018 17:40

I hate the baby milk one where the boys get to be a mountaineer and a scientist and the girl gets to be a ballet dancer...

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 15/11/2018 17:49

I never thought of the advert like that, thought it was quite sweet but I see your point now!

Kemer2018 · 15/11/2018 17:49

Pisses me off too.
I started bitching to oh when it first came on.
Obviously he has no idea. He's a man. And not a caring sensitive type.

Turquoise123 · 15/11/2018 17:51

I am going to google this advert sounds like a winner !

SW6mama · 15/11/2018 17:51

I think we should burn all the men. That will teach them

This made me snort with laughter!!! Someone should rip off the Vicks ad - Woman smothers husband with nearest petrochemical (Vicks) sets him on fire then settles down to watch the Kardashian’s in peace

RomanyRoots · 15/11/2018 17:53

I'd have been more pissed off having to organise all the holiday by myself tbh.
Sounds like you have your own man child there OP.

OJZJ · 15/11/2018 17:53

GrinGrinGrin
You have cheered me up so much LurpakIsTheOnlyButter will you marry me????GrinGrin
I think it's actually genetically inherent!!!!
I was raised in an all female household with womens lib etc very much indoctrinated in me, as is my son He sadly has no male relatives and sexism is NOT an option...
I asked my son about 18 months ago to help me clean up as he was laid on the sofa, drink in one hand and remote in the other watching tv and got told "he doesn't do cleaning, because he is a boy!"..... all at the then tender age of four so I couldn't even blame his schools archaic belief system filtering through!!
I will take notice of the advert next time it is on and rage about the injustice with you Grin

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 15/11/2018 17:54

I hate it too. She should put it on the blokes balls.

I do put it on my boy's back and sometimes the soles of their feet but only coz we had a 'rub it in the eyes' incident.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 15/11/2018 17:54

The baby formula one is COMPLETELY sexist. I get cross every time it's on.

The Vicks one is just targeting the right demograpgphic. Women that like to care. Same as the fat rapping Bingo lady one is targeting their chosen group. Vicks is not for us...

sima74 · 15/11/2018 17:55

I think it’s a lovely caring advert tbh. Are women not allowed to care for their husbands/ partners?
Perhaps the woman should be sticking the jar of vicks up his arse and telling him to fuck off out to work. hmm

^^
This is exactly what I was thinking. Glad I wasn’t the only one.

M3lon · 15/11/2018 17:59

Of course its lovely to care for your husband and child...its just that this becomes an oppressive message when every single opportunity to show caring goes to the mother in a family.

Its lovely for a husband to care for their wife and child too....but for some reason we don't see that blasted out by advertising day in day out.

There would be no problem with this advert if it existed in a background of equal messages of caring being broadcast at men and women...but it doesn't. Hence the problem.

OJZJ · 15/11/2018 17:59

Mokopon
That reminded me a recentlyrewatched episode of friends with Monica trying to seduce her husband by rubbing vicks onto her chest seductively.....
We could rub it into mens testicles to still see if they find it seductive!!!

M3lon · 15/11/2018 17:59

Is the baby formula one still on? I thought it actually had been taken away for sexism?

Perfectpeony · 15/11/2018 18:02

The Alexa one is far far worse! Makes me so angry. Whoever thought of that is either a useless father or just married to a complete arsehole.

Hereiam1980 · 15/11/2018 18:03

Yes!! I find it super cringe!! The way she’s rubbing it in his chest makes me feel a bit 🤢 why can’t he do it himself?

nevermorelenore · 15/11/2018 18:06

The vicks one reminds me of that sex and the city episode where Charlotte’s husband is sick and his MIL treats him like a baby.

The advert that currently annoys me is the Debenhams one where people get all smug because their friends are actually using their gifts. Xmas is just so full of tat now that apparently you’re a star if someone actually fucking uses something you buy rather than binning it or sending it to the tombola.

WitchyMcWitchface · 15/11/2018 18:10

Boycott Vicks. A teensy drop in sales would be enough to make them rethink.

Move2WY · 15/11/2018 18:10

The husband doesn’t have to rub it onto her chest.

The advert could just show him rubbing it onto his own chest - why does she have to infantilise her. The advert is patronising to both men and women.

Its almost 2019. When will this end?

Move2WY · 15/11/2018 18:11

@M3lon and when tbey do show men caring for their wives or children its always mothers day. The one day a year we deserve a break

KellyW88 · 15/11/2018 18:12

I get pissed off at the ads that make men out to be completely useless at any kind of every day tasks - the one at the moment that does my head in is the one where the dad is at home looking after baby and the mother has left several reminders on their device (Alexa or Amazon whatsit) like he’s got no bloody clue what to do otherwise! I’m annoyed to admit my fella can often be far more efficient when looking after our twins AND keeping the home as tidy as he can AND getting chores done :’)

NotTheFordType · 15/11/2018 18:23

Just stop watching adverts, FFS.
