Christmas in November?

punicorn · 13/11/2018 18:27

Friend posted on social media that they had taken DCs to see Father Christmas last weekend. Last weekend being 10th of bloody November. AIBU or is this just too early to be getting the kids wound up for Christmas?

I absolutely love Christmas but that is ridiculous even by my standards.

I have nearly finished all my shopping, however I will not be mentioning Christmas to my DD until 1st December.

It's far too much excitement for the children this early.

JudasPrudy · 13/11/2018 18:56

I know someone who put their tree up yesterday Shock

SavageBeauty73 · 13/11/2018 18:57

We watched Elf last night 🤷‍♀️ my Christmas obsessed daughter insisted. I have banned decorating the tree until 1st December though.

whatsthepointthen · 13/11/2018 18:58

lots of people are putting their trees up (i am a member on various fb diy sites!)

MysticFlyTrap · 13/11/2018 19:03

Lots of crazy people are going Christmas crazy so early lol, but guess it's the commercialism rather than your friend at fault

ChikiTIKI · 13/11/2018 19:04

I saw a Christmas tree all lit up in someone's front room on the way home today. Too early!!

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 13/11/2018 19:05

What FC is set up and running now?!

BrieAndChilli · 13/11/2018 19:07

There’s a couple of scenarios I would find acceptable

  • your work runs a grotto and they do a test run with employees kids (someone on my Facebook did it on the weekend)
  • you have your heart set on a certain xmas grotto/experience, go to book and realise you should have booked 10 years ago September and the only slots left are these early bird one.
selepele · 13/11/2018 19:11

yes there are adverts, radio and decorations

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 13/11/2018 19:13

What's wrong with people? It's getting earlier and earlier every year Hmm

user1484424013 · 13/11/2018 21:40

Advanced stage cancer in my husband has me sorting through Christmas decorations ready to put up at the weekend. And I'll take them to visit Santa asap because it's advanced stage cancer. Maybe think about people who are preparing and hoping to have that last Christmas. Why should it be deprived because moany arsehole think its too early. I'm Sorry but for fuck sake anyone of you in this situation... hold on my situation would do what ever the fuck it took to celebrate the hell out of a last Christmas. And just for tge recordit's 6 weeks today not exactly christmad in July.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 13/11/2018 21:44

I do think I number of people putting up decorations early use Christmas as a way of bringing a bit of light into life when life is a bit difficult.

I can't judge them for that

Therunecaster · 13/11/2018 21:49

My tree is up and I'm loving it. Why not make the most of a thing which makes you happy.

Honeyroar · 13/11/2018 21:56

I walked through our local shopping centre yesterday. The lights were on, there were mechanical displays of Xmas figures everywhere, songs playing. I said to my husband that if I had kids I wouldn't take them anywhere near.

I travel for a living, I've actually only got 20 days in the country before Xmas. I used to put my tree up the last week in Nov because of that, but I always felt like a cheat and it all felt tired and a bit boring by Xmas itself.

TryItAndDieFatLass · 13/11/2018 22:02

I dont blame you at all user I hope you and yours have as good a time as is possible.

Life can be so worrying for a lot of people right now - Brexit fears about medication, Universal Credit, not to mention illness, if a little bit of happiness is there, why shouldn't they grab it. It's not really affecting anyone else, is it?

Loyaultemelie · 13/11/2018 22:02

Thanksuser I saw your post on the things we can't say in rl thread. Wishing you some happy memories from your early Christmas to hold on to

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/11/2018 07:26

It's a hun thing.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 14/11/2018 07:30

Ridiculously early. I am already having to actively avoid watching anything live on commercial TV because of the endless adverts. I haven't seen any decorations around here yet - the lights went up in the town centre last week but won't be switched on for about another three weeks.

I am not a Christmas fan at all and hate that it's stretched to cover all of November and December. Yuk.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 14/11/2018 07:31

Someone on my facebook friends list has her tree up already!

I'm alright with it - two houses near to us have lights up, too, and I quite like that little bit of excitement!

LittleCandle · 14/11/2018 07:33

I put up Christmas decorations in the shop yesterday, but it wasn't my choice. That's far too early. One place I used to work had Santa arriving mid-November and it drove me bonkers. Worse still, the year I started working there in March, they were still playing Christmas music!

ForalltheSaints · 14/11/2018 07:37

One of the good things about the US (not many I know in Trump's land) is that with Thanksgiving, the Christmas marketing does not start so early.

Advent should be the time for adverts, Father Christmas and all preparation.

BlancheM · 14/11/2018 07:44

Wound up? Most kids enjoy Christmas

Zimbabwebadgers · 14/11/2018 07:48

Friends saw Santa this week. It is at an expensive attraction and it's significantly cheaper to go in November.

We've booked to see Santa the first weekend of December. I would prefer to go closer to Xmas but I'm due to give birth then so booked earlier to be on the safe side, however, it now seems likely that I'm going to be induced early so I may miss the grotto anyway Sad

anniehm · 14/11/2018 07:49

We used to go in the half term holidays back in the day! We personally didn't do that with our kids - we put the tree up on advent Sunday and used to do the Santa train when they were small

Jaxtellerswife · 14/11/2018 07:51

🤷🏻‍♀️we've decorated and my children are thrilled. Nothing to do with commercialisation, I just love Christmas and want to milk it
