To think we have returned to the dark ages? Pregnant women killed with a crossbow

I just don't have the words, knife crime is vicious and horrific but using crossbows to kill a pregnant woman is just so beyond anything that I could express:

Yes, the religion is irrelevant. The sex of the perpetrator isn't. Men of all and no religions murder women at a shocking rate.

Avegemitesandwich · 14/11/2018 14:58

I think one step to bring it to an end has to be reporting on all the ordinary murders that are committed by men on their exes, not just the unusual ones.

When I first told my DH that 2 women a week are murdered by their partner or ex, he just did not believe me. He couldn't believe it and part of that is because its so common that most of them are only reported at local level, if at all. He thought that any murder of a woman would make the national news.

TheQueef · 14/11/2018 15:02

What are the current figures does anyone know?
How many women are murdered by male partners/exs each week?
Same Q but men, how many males are murdered each week by female partners?

It should be made crystal clear if it's a discrepancy.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2018 15:06

“It should be made crystal clear if it's a discrepancy.”

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 14/11/2018 15:10

It’s such a hidden topic

It’s hard to mention to men without looking like you think they are killers too . I struggle to discuss it actually as People get defensive
But it’s an issue

And yes - the grisly ones make the news . The less ‘shocking’ ones don’t

It’s so important and I can’t get my head around the media silence here

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/11/2018 15:11

@TheQueef there is a huge "discrepancy". So massive in fact that it is often discussed and mentioned in relation to crime.

TheQueef · 14/11/2018 15:12

I know the difference is massive Bert but why isn't it publicised like that?

IMO if the stats were shown side by side that would have impact.
Domestic violence and honour killing etc just cloud the issue.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 14/11/2018 15:14

More men are murdered than women
Men mainly murder (something like 10:1)
Less women are murdered
Most women are murdered by men

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 14/11/2018 15:16

As we now know this wasn't some random killing, the woman's ex husband has been charged, not that that makes it any better.

Truly awful, I think it's a case of an ex partner who won't let go, it's happened before we read about it all too often,I don't think the race and religion were particularly pertinent. Some very vindictive exes will even kill their own children to punish an ex partner.

Well I expect most of the people making news media decisions are male and those women who have reached the top will have learnt the rules of their trade from men.

I can't think why else we have to be told every night what has happened on the stock and currency markets, but women being murdered by their exes isn't newsworthy unless there is an exotic detail.

belinda789 · 14/11/2018 15:18

In France, crime passionnel (or crime of passion) was a valid defence to murder charges. During the 19th century, some such cases resulted in a custodial sentence for the murderer of only two years.
Some human rights advocates say that the crimes of passion in Latin America are treated leniently.
A similar dynamic is when women are killed by male family members and the crimes are perceived as excusable or understandable (Honour killings)".
WHY?

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2018 15:19

I’m sorry- that was rude and uncalled for of me.

From memory about 1 man a month is murdered by a current or past “intimate partner” . About 3 women every two weeks are. All the women are murdered by men. So are some of the male victims.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2018 15:20

Overall, significantly more men are murdered than women. Just mot when it comes to domestic violence.

Motoko · 14/11/2018 21:20

It makes me so angry.
