To think we have returned to the dark ages? Pregnant women killed with a crossbow

I just don't have the words, knife crime is vicious and horrific but using crossbows to kill a pregnant woman is just so beyond anything that I could express:

Personally I think the method is irrelevant. It's horrific in all cases.

Utterly horrific, her poor children. The men that commit these crimes are utter scum, life in prison is too good for them.

Women’s Aid launched the Femicide Watch in 1996 and 88% of women murdered in Ireland are killed by a man known to them. These are the stats for Ireland as that is where I am, in memory of another woman being taken I have donated to my local domestic violence charity.

I hope this poor woman's children have the love and support they will need.

If a society bans guns, criminals turn to knives. The government tighten the knife laws, criminals turn to things like acid or crossbows. I don't think it means "we have returned to the dark ages" because that implies you would be happier if a more modern method of murder had been used.

I'm surprised that crossbows are still legal as a good quality example in well-trained hands can be every bit as lethal as a gun, but am not surprised that, if one has decided to commit murder, the most available lethal method is sought out.

We can (probably will) ban crossbows in the near future. But people who are determined to maim or kill will always find a method.

Dreadful. Poor, poor woman. The baby is critically ill. Five other children motherless as well, and the attack happened in front of them.

Male violence is a scourge.

It never ceases to amaze me how many men are capable of the most unspeakable acts of violence. I’m sure there are people out there saying he must be mentally ill, wondering what caused him to snap. Nope: just an ordinary abusive man taking his hatred of women to the next level.

It is beyond shocking, and yet I just knew it was going to be a male family member/partner/ex-partner that did this. It is so depressing how often women (and children) are killed by their enraged male family members/partners/ex-partners.

This makes me so angry.

Violence against women should have more severe sentencing then violence against men. There needs to be more of a deterrent.

This beautiful woman was married at 17 to her first husband, who was 32. The chances are he was abusive to her (speculation I know). She then converted to Islam to have a love marriage with her second husband.

It seems her first husband would have been seething with jealousy that she was having her second child by her new husband.

Christ what a fucking bastard. Obvious reasons why she left the guy in the first place. How could he deprive his own children of a mother let alone 5 children and an unborn baby. The bastard.

I think a crossbow is a common alternative for some people who would use a gun if our gun laws didn't make it so difficult to get one.

This is a bit simplistic.

She split with her first husband (the accused) when she had 3 children and he left the family home.

At that point she fell in need love with another man and had another child with him.

Just because she's Asian, it's rude to say she's not allowed out of the home.

This is desperately sad :(

What's so shocking? It's a second marriage. Why on earth would you assume she's wasn't more than happy with her large family. You seem to assume she had no choice in the matter
