To not clean my own oven!

LittleMe03 · 12/11/2018 19:12

I have absolutely no reason not to do it myself but I just don't want to 😂 have always disliked doing so.

I keep looking at it thinking it really needs doing properly, but can't stand the thought of doing it. I don't have a cleaner so do all other cleaning ourselves. DP works much longer hours than I do and has himself said he is happy to do other housework but like me, keeps putting a proper clean on the oven off!

WWBU to have someone come out to do this for us? I know there are obviously services that just do oven cleaning but I am worried they will think I'm just lazy 😨

Unless anybody can recommend an amazing oven cleaner I can put on and leave on over night and just wipe clean the following morning

Also, this is in no way a dig at people who do have cleaners!

Yanbu. We get ours done professionally every year. We also use those oven liners and shake them over the bin every so often.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2018 19:14

If you can afford it do it. I never clean my own oven. The man comes, takes the door off, takes bits out to his magic van and when he's finished it looks like new.

PurpleFlower1983 · 12/11/2018 19:14

My friend got someone to come out on a Wowcher deal - the results were amazing!

RedHelenB · 12/11/2018 19:14

Mine was disgusting . 30 quid and it wax like new. And because it's like new I've kept on top of cleaning it myself. Get a clean booked.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2018 19:15

Yes I have a sheet of Teflon in the bottom of the oven. Works well.

Dickybow321 · 12/11/2018 19:16

This is why I insist on self-cleaning ovens. Amazing.

BigRedBoat · 12/11/2018 19:16

I outsource my oven cleaning, I hate doing it and the man who comes does a great job, and I've never felt judged.

Grumpbum123 · 12/11/2018 19:18

Since my mental health took a decline I know have a cleaner, someone who cleans my bin and oven. I care not if it seems I’m lazy

Livedandlearned2 · 12/11/2018 19:18

I would, and they won't judge you, that's how they make a living.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2018 19:18

I always think when the neighbours see the van on the drive that me and DH must be marvellous cooks for the oven to be that dirty. Wink

Loonoon · 12/11/2018 19:21

Someone who cleans ovens for a living won’t think you are lazy for employing them anymore than a decorator/nail technician/will writer/anyone who provides a service that could be DIYed. They will think you are sensible for getting in an expert to do a professional job.

Incidentally this will the first November for 14 years my oven hadn’t had it’s pre Christmas visit from the Ovenu man and that’s because a new cooker is being delivered on Friday. I am so excited!!

LittleMe03 · 12/11/2018 19:22

Oven liners are something I definitely need to get... once it's clean! 😄

It was a groupon offer that I saw that got me thinking about having it done. It's a really good deal!

The thing is, by forking out a few quid to manage an unpleasant job, that’s funding someone else’s income. We have to spend money to keep the economy going. So if you can afford to have someone in to clean the oven, that’s great. You get a clean oven - probably far cleaner than you’d have managed yourself - and you’ve helped pay someone else’s wage.

I don’t understand this notion that people with money shouldn’t spend it, we need the wealthy to spend or we all grind to a halt.

fleshmarketclose · 12/11/2018 19:23

I never clean my oven I have a bloke come out to do it every six months. He makes it look like new. I do all the other cleaning myself but always feel like it's the best money I spend in fact I'm seriously considering booking a deep clean of the house before Christmas instead of doing it myself as well.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 12/11/2018 19:26

I saw a deal on FB to have the oven cleaned for £20 I took it and I couldn't give a shiny shit if anyone judges me, in fact I've been bragging about how awesome it is. I can't tell you how nice it is having a clean oven and not having had to do it myself. Do it OP, get that professional in.

LittleMe03 · 12/11/2018 19:29

We don't have loads of disposable money but with the deal I have seen it is affordable as a 'one off' possibly even once every 6 months.

Thanks all!

I think I'll take the groupon offer x

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 12/11/2018 19:32

Do it, you won't regret it.

Theweasleytwins · 12/11/2018 19:34

Aren't you creating a job for someone?
There is a person local to me who advertises on fb and charges £40 I think

Fluffyears · 12/11/2018 19:36

I pay for oven cleaning. I sit drinking coffee and watching telly and a bloke brings my oven back k to showroom cleanliness. Does a better than I can using any cleaners on the market including over pride, life’s too short and it’s worth the cost.

bridgetreilly · 12/11/2018 19:44

I did this for the first time last year and then, when I admitted it to my wider family, was flabbergasted to discover that they all did the same. Do it, OP! I still think it's some of the best value for money I get.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 12/11/2018 19:47

Get the oven bloke out to do it.
Brand new oven and no Oven Pride chemical burns up your arms - though that might just be me 🤔

LittleMe03 · 12/11/2018 19:51

You've all convinced me to definitely do it. Thank you. I'm looking forward to seeing it looking better than I've ever done myself and I'm certain I'll be pleased I did and worth the money!!

OP posts:
pastabest · 12/11/2018 19:51

I'm definitely going to get someone in to do it once I go back to work after maternity leave. I don't actually mind doing it but it's one of those things that just doesn't happen with small children around.

If only someone offered a fridge cleaning service too, that's one job I really really hate and would happily spend good money to pay someone to do.

Seniorcitizen1 · 12/11/2018 19:57

As well as getting the house cleaned weekly, every 6 months the cleaner cleans the oven at an extra charge. She leaves it gleaming as if brand new. The idea of one of use doing it ourselves is a no no
