To not clean my own oven!

LittleMe03 · 12/11/2018 19:12

I have absolutely no reason not to do it myself but I just don't want to 😂 have always disliked doing so.

I keep looking at it thinking it really needs doing properly, but can't stand the thought of doing it. I don't have a cleaner so do all other cleaning ourselves. DP works much longer hours than I do and has himself said he is happy to do other housework but like me, keeps putting a proper clean on the oven off!

WWBU to have someone come out to do this for us? I know there are obviously services that just do oven cleaning but I am worried they will think I'm just lazy 😨

Unless anybody can recommend an amazing oven cleaner I can put on and leave on over night and just wipe clean the following morning

I just paid for my local Ovenu man to come and do ours and it was worth every penny. He left it shining like it was brand new and it was only £59. He was here for two hours and took the whole thing apart, meticulously cleaned every bit, and put it back together.

Squirrel26 · 12/11/2018 20:17

I get someone to come and clean mine every 6 months. I hate doing it, and the cost to me is worth it to avoid all the mess of doing it myself badly. Do it! Divide the cost by 6 or 12 and I bet it’ll work out to be the price of a couple of take away coffees a month.

daphine2004 · 12/11/2018 20:22

Definitely pay someone to do it. I usually do and last year I decided to don’t myself, well all the dirtybliquid seeped our of the oven and underneath the kickboard. Tried to fix that and snapped the kickboard in half as it was stuck.

I value my own time and over estimated my oven cleaning capability. Never again!

chickywoo · 12/11/2018 20:23

I find the oven cleaning kit with the bags for the shelves very good and only £3 although it doesn’t just wipe clean you still have to have a bit of a scrub with a Brillo and buff the door up with glass cleaner. I couldn’t pay for it to be done because I’m a tight arse Grin but if u don’t mind paying have it done it’s your oven!

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2018 20:26

The difference for me is that the Oven Man takes it all to bits to clean it plus the door off etc. I couldn't do it as well as that however I tried, and it would annoy me as I want it to look perfect.

moita · 12/11/2018 20:29

We did when we moved in to our new house. The oven was in a state and I was pregnant and looking after a toddler. Husband was working all hours so he had no time to do it.

Hired a professional oven cleaner to come round - he did a brilliant job. Expensive but worth every penny.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 12/11/2018 20:48

A lady comes to clean ours every summer and every winter. She's amazing and I'd never dream of doing anything more than a quick wipe and swipe with my own oven - I have neither the patience nor the energy to piss about with racks and sticks and fans and filth.

Happyinheels · 12/11/2018 20:49

Go for it! Life's too short! If you don't want to clean your oven and it's filthy then get someone in to do it. Simple. We can beat ourselves up and feel guilty over everything if we let it

Laiste · 12/11/2018 21:05

Couple of years ago i had an oven man round to do one of my oven's. The rest of my house is spotless but for 3 years i did not clean the oven. This'll be great I thought. The guy will turn up with some magic expensive cleaning tech and have it done within the hour.

Big muscle bound guy turns up ... I was mortified when he simply rolled his sleeves up, asked to borrow a dining room chair to sit on, and then spent THREE hours just scrubbing and scrubbing BlushBlushBlush I didn't know what to do with myself while he was at it. I just felt such a lazy cow! but i still don't clean my oven

House4 · 12/11/2018 21:12

How dirty are all your ovens getting?!
What are you cooking?

Bunnybooboo · 12/11/2018 21:14

My oven is self cleaning Grin

BestIsWest · 12/11/2018 21:16

Oddly enough, it’s the one household task that I really enjoy doing.

Bunnybooboo · 12/11/2018 21:22

So my oven has cleaning setting which basically turns everything to ash that you wipe clean when the oven is cooled down. I do it every couple of months.

Celebelly · 12/11/2018 22:07

We're not cooking anything outlandish, but ovens get dirty! Sometimes stuff can drip down between panes of glass when you're taking stuff in and out, fan-assisted ovens get clogged with fat at the back and it's almost impossible to clean properly without taking the fan part out or taking the door off the hinges and apart. I'm not really keen on dismantling our oven every time I want to properly clean it!

I wipe down the shelves and inside, and the door, frequently but there's plenty of bits I either can't reach or where a fallen piece of food has gone unnoticed and burnt on, and plenty of bits where you just can't access properly.

When I was chatting to our oven man the other day, he mentioned he'd just started business a few weeks earlier and was run off his feet - he had two people in my street to do that following week and had already been here the previous week for another two houses! So it's definitely not unusual!

Squirrel26 · 13/11/2018 08:25

Yep, mine rang me a few weeks ago to point out that my oven must be filthy by now remind me it was time for them to come again. The first appointment they had is the week after next!

TheCupboardUnderTheStairs · 13/11/2018 09:10

I clean mine myself. In fact I did it a few weeks ago and this weekend DH did roast potatoes in a gallon of fat, then threw it all over the bottom of the oven.Hmm

DD then put a pizza in yesterday, which heated up the spilt fat which a) smelt and b) proceeded to spit eveywhere. Hence it now needs another clean. It's got Ovenpride on as we speak.......

DH wasn't in a good mood after work last night, so I'll wait my moment to 'have a word with him'!!

ItchyKondera · 13/11/2018 12:08

Ooh just remembered the oven man is coming to clean mine next week!! Totally worth the money, he will also put in a new oven light in.
He does a much better job than i could (be bothered) to do, and he doesn't use chemicals for it.

LittleMe03 · 13/11/2018 13:06

Hmmm.. so looking again at the groupon deal it doesn't seem as good an offer as I originally thought. The price shown is for one hour only. Reading some of your posts I don't think it will be done in one hour and I think the max someone said is 4 hours, which would be then more expensive than prices quoted online on other local oven cleaners websites!! 😮

Still def want it doing now, just need to find the best deal!

We used Ovenu after I saw a post on FB from our local Ovenu guy. It was £59 for a single oven (including the shelves and racks etc) and he was here for two hours. He was excellent and it was well worth the money. See if there's a local Ovenu guy to you with a FB page - they usually have reviews, etc.

Junkmail · 13/11/2018 13:26

I have someone come do mine. I just use a local service. They are good and very reasonably priced. I think it was around £40 last time? I can’t remember exactly because it was a larger total as they did a few other bits for me too. Shop around for a deal—honestly whatever I paid it was worth it. Gross job!

BrettAndersonscheekbones · 13/11/2018 14:06

We had ours done by Ovenclean back in the spring. Single oven was £45. It was absolutely encrusted (the shame), but by by the time he'd finished was sparkling. Took about two hours, no harsh chemicals. Well worth it.

Inertia · 13/11/2018 14:39

We use Ovenu- have had a local firm do it as well, but they were nowhere near as thorough. The advantage is that the professionals have the tools and equipment to do a good job, and they also have the knowledge to take it apart and clean individual bits without risking any damage.

My next oven is going to be self-cleaning- it is my most hated job.
